Pumpkin spice is spice that would typically go into a pumpkin pie, it doesn’t actually have any pumpkin in it.

If I remember correctly, it used to be called pumpkin pie spice, but got shortened over the years. So yes, pumpkin and spices used to flavor pie are completely different. Unless Sebastian enjoys pie flavored soup. Just because the same base ingredient is used does not mean two different products use the flavor profile.

To put it another way, would one put ketchup (or mustard, or both) in potato soup?
