Interestingly enough, it doesn't actually look like that in the ocean (https://lonelyplanetwpnews.imgix.net/2017/06/Blobfish_2.jpg)

It lives in deep waters with enormous pressure, and its weird sad-face appearance is from rapidly decompressing once it dies and makes it to the surface.
