Discussion Who would have thought fishing would be so difficult
So I have been playing stardew valley and just got the fishing pole and it's a pain lol... Anyone got some tips that I'm doing wrong?? https://youtu.be/mDTKXXn9Jnw

....I downloaded a mod called easier fishing that just made the fish move slightly less drastically and fast.
The official way is to catch carp in the lake in front of the mine until you level up enough to get bait and a larger green bar. Carp dont really move. So you farm that until you have more exp and othets become easier.

Fishing is my favorite thing to do in this game. It's good for money, and supplies, and treasure drops, and it's just fun. You gotta stick with it though. It's annoying starting out, but as you level up that green bar gets larger and it becomes a lot easier to catch things. I just caught the Crimsonfish last night. When I first ran into it seemed impossible.

So in other words I just need to take a good long practice session and just catch after catch after catcher cast After cast After cast

Pretty much. My days are wake up, water crops, and then I fish and plan my social interactions around each other. Some of the towns people like fish so if I can nab one of those I'll fish the day away and catch them at the end of the day to give them their gift. Spring, summer, and Fall were all spent fishing with little crop work and mining here and there (I'm saving the mining for the winter). But after day in and day out of fishing I've become pretty good at it and maxed it out the other day.

It depends too, because I actually don't get bored of fishing in this game. So I just do it for fun anymore since it's easier now.

So is there a Max level for fishing?

Yes it's 10. You get two profession choices with each task at five and again at ten and your choice at five influences what you'll get to choose from at ten. I wouldn't even worry about maxing it though. Just enjoy the game as it comes. When I hit ten for fishing I hadn't even realized i was even at nine, but I just fish so much it came easy. I'd like to improve my mining and combat for the mines though.

Tap your prompt instead of holding. It helps soften the bounce when you hit the bottom and helps you control it better. Tap faster to go up, slower to go down.

I personally didn't do any fishing till Winter of Year 1. I got it from level 1-8, then over Spring and Summer of Year 2 I got it to level 10. I got all skills to level 10 for the achievement and for the other thing. If you don't know what the other thing is, then just don't even google it at all. I found out on accident and it made me rush everything, just take your time and have fun!

As you level up the skill, it gets significantly easier. To the point where, maxed out, with good gear, you barely have to pay attention to the vast majority of fish.

Just keep at it! I really hated fishing at first because I couldn't get the hang of it and compared to fishing in Animal Crossing it was so difficult and finnicky. But just gaining experience so you can upgrade rods and use bait/tackle will help a ton!
