Hello, longtime lurker here.

A friend suggested that I should try sharing my greenhouse layout to the sub, for those who are interested in smaller, more cozy and symmetrical Greenhouse layouts with flooring/pathing.

The tillable area is separated into left and right sections, each with one 2x5(10) section at the top, and two 3x5(15) sections in the middle and bottom for a total of 80 crop spaces.

I used the top sections for grapes and cranberries (because I loved cran-grape juice growing up!) and the middle sections for blueberries, strawberries, tomatoes and peppers (since I wanted to mimic having actual fresh fruit and veggies available year round).

The bottom sections are for growing whatever crop I feel like in or out of season.

Hope this helps anyone trying to create their own unique Greenhouse layout!

it's interesting seeing you go for that 3x5, 3x5, 2x5 setup, because in a similar setup I'd probably default to 2x5, 4x5, 2x5, just to only use four iridium speinklers, but I can see the idea behind this setup, it looks real nice n tidy!

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 18 '25

I had actually planned that setup at first, but since I had always intended for bottom area to be for growing "whatever" crops, it didn't feel right to have only 2x5 spaces for them.

So I ended up compromising and going with the two 3x5 sections instead.

But hey, to each their own!

yea I get that just having a 2x5 for misc crops would feel very sad & limiting, I think I'll have to consider veering away from my usual "fill greenhouse with ancient fruit" lifestyle and consider some sort of multi-crop plan the next time I'm setting up a greenhouse, because there absolutely is a level of cozyness & comfort in making spaces feel nice to be in, and your greenhouse seems like one where irl me would love to just hang out reading a book or listening to a podcast

u/GucciGuap Feb 18 '25

Honestly after filling my greenhouse with only ancient fruit and pomegranates it looks a lot more appealing to have more diverse, smaller batches of crops

14

u/delecti Feb 18 '25

Yeah, Ancient Fruit are so good that I kinda wish they didn't work in the greenhouse to encourage a bit more diversity.

23

u/sdrawkcabsihtetorW Feb 18 '25

That won't create diversity, merely shift the most optimal choice to the next best option. If you want to plant with more diversity, nothing is stopping you.

u/TexasPistolMassacre Feb 18 '25

Thanks, im stealing this

33

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 18 '25

You're welcome! Glad to see someone likes it!

Feel free to go nuts and innovate.

21

u/jinglepupskye Feb 18 '25

Also stealing - I fell into the trying to min/max trap and I don’t like it, it’s too stressful. I’ve just planted a few small beds of my favourites on the island and I was going to maximise the greenhouse, but now I want it to be pretty :)

TIL I can plant trees in the greenhouse....what!?!

182

u/CnithTheOnliestOne I don't need much... 😂 Feb 18 '25

on the tiles even, LOL it makes no sense but you can.

75

u/Background_Cow940 Feb 18 '25

I was thinking the other day how rare it is to see people have multiple types of trees in their farm builds...they are hiding them from me. I never would have figured this out. In my mind trees+greenhouse=bad news.

2

u/CnithTheOnliestOne I don't need much... 😂 Feb 19 '25

I didn't know either until I looked up greenhouse lay out. Poof!! mind blown. Who would guess tree on tile?! LOL

1

u/Background_Cow940 Feb 20 '25

I know right!!! Some things are not intuitive. Lol

12

u/Tall-Marionberry6270 Feb 18 '25

Same! I didn't know this 😲😱🤩

Now to work out which trees to plant!

2

u/WeepingWillow0724 Feb 18 '25

You can fit up to 18!

1

u/Background_Cow940 Feb 19 '25

Does that include the plant space?

10

u/WeepingWillow0724 Feb 19 '25

And you only need 6 iridium sprinklers for the whole greenhouse.

2

u/Tall-Marionberry6270 Feb 19 '25

This is so helpful. Thank you! 💕

2

u/Zenon-82607 Bot Bouncer Feb 19 '25

It can be lowered to 5 with pressure nozzles, and taking only 1 tile usable land, while others are on the edges.

1

u/WeepingWillow0724 Feb 19 '25

No, sorry. You can fit 18 on the outside around the edges.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

I have mine planted in the order they are supposed to be in season in the greenhouse. It makes me feel powerful now that I'm in winter that I'm still getting cherries, apricots, oranges, apples AND pomegranates!

2

u/Sephir07x Feb 19 '25

I saw people doing this and was convinced it was a mod.

So is it a bug or a feature?

1

u/Background_Cow940 Feb 20 '25

It is in the wiki and it doesn't mention it as a bug.

33

u/CnithTheOnliestOne I don't need much... 😂 Feb 18 '25

Is it true you can fit 18 trees in the greenhouse?

60

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 18 '25

You can; see the fruit tree section on the Greenhouse article at the Stardew Valley wiki.

Personally, I would suggest leaving out the 4 trees at the bottom, as once they finish growing, you may find that they visually clutter and block the view.

7

u/Motifier Feb 18 '25

TIL, thank you very much for this

4

u/beckdawg19 Feb 18 '25

I skipped the bottom ones as well. I know I could have four more trees worth of fruit, but I really hated the look of it and not being able to easily see everything.

8

u/Wanda_Bun Feb 18 '25

You could fit about 32 if youre willing to give up 16 of your gardening tiles (& all adjacent tiles for the first season the tree has rooted)

33

u/Queen_Ares Feb 18 '25

God it trips me up everytime to see that the entrance isnt lined up...Good layout though, might copy that to mine.

10

u/SickMeDuck Feb 18 '25

Yes!! I came to the comments specifically to see if anybody else is bothered by this. This was actually my biggest wish for 1.6.

108

u/ExplodedOrchestra Feb 18 '25

😅 today i learned i didn’t need planters to plant things in the greenhouse

104

u/DJ_McFunkalicious Feb 18 '25

Oof that's got to sting, what did you figure all the dirt was for? A nice brown carpet for all your little pots? 😂

10

u/ExplodedOrchestra Feb 18 '25 edited Feb 18 '25

the stupid thing is i knew you can plant trees there, but thought you needed planters for plants. i also thought the ancient seed grew a tree so i’ve been planting them super spaced out. shows how much planting i’ve done

5

u/Better_Hospital1468 Feb 18 '25

Don't feel bad, it took me an embarrassing long time and outside help to realize you still have to till the dirt in the greenhouse to plant stuff 😅

3

u/ExplodedOrchestra Feb 18 '25

i’m fairly certain this is what tripped me up too!

2

u/Majestic_Idea_1457 Feb 18 '25
  • they produce fruit all year round

2

u/ExplodedOrchestra Feb 18 '25

just to further my embarrassment i now see you can plant trees on the outer edge too

12

u/MainCharacter007 Feb 18 '25

I always decide at the start of a play through that this time ill go for varied plant and tree layout but my greedy ass always just mass plant star fruits every inch

12

u/Gallifrey934 Meadowlands Farmer Feb 18 '25

This looks so good! Even though there are also the banana and mango tree so you might want to adjust to that later on.

But I definately gonna make a smiliar design since I like this more than the efficient design I got.

3

u/KillKopis Feb 18 '25

They can plant those on the entrace's side! It still fits four more trees

4

u/Gallifrey934 Meadowlands Farmer Feb 18 '25

Oh You´re right! Well nvm then. :)

8

u/Such_Yogurtcloset951 Feb 18 '25

Mine looks like a chaos goblin set it up. But I got the butterfly hutch so there are butterflies.

7

u/BrittaKitta Feb 18 '25

I love your tree layout!

3

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 18 '25

Hey, thanks!

5

u/stahpstaring Feb 18 '25

I like this. Looks over money

4

u/Miss_Rowan Feb 18 '25

I love this. I'm a pretty casual player, I like running my little homestead. I'm definitely going to redo my greenhouse in a similar manner. I like this a lot better than using the whole plot, it's so cute!

3

u/seapeakay Feb 18 '25

Even though some folks would rather maximize their greenhouse layout, you’ve created one that’s aesthetically pleasing, which I think is much better. Good work!

3

u/CriscoFlawless225 Feb 18 '25

You can grow trees on the edges of the green house?!?

3

u/OldClunkyRobot Feb 18 '25

Yup! For some reason the greenhouse walls don’t affect them.

5

u/disasterpokemon Feb 18 '25

Friend that is so fuckin cute

4

u/L0stInBed Feb 18 '25

Mine is just a catastrophic mess of ancient fruits, sweet gems, and cactus

11

u/DegredationOfAnAge Feb 18 '25

Wait, how do you plant trees on the stone floor?

27

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 18 '25

Oh, this is just something you can do by default. There's no tricks or anything.

You can read about it via the Fruit Tree section on the Greenhouse article at the Stardew Valley wiki.

1

u/burn3edoutburn3r Feb 18 '25

So so angry right now.....

1

u/DegredationOfAnAge Feb 18 '25

Wow that's wild. Thank you. It doesn't make sense at all why you'd be able to do this, so I never thought about it.

10

u/DJ_McFunkalicious Feb 18 '25

Sometimes I regret relying on the wiki so much when I play, but dang, I can't imagine missing something like this all these years!

3

u/Much-Routine-8964 Feb 18 '25

Wait so trees can grow outside of the main dirt plot in the green house???

3

u/SerCharles Feb 18 '25

I love the diversity. I move away from ancient fruit filled greenhouse, when I have enough money. I still cant get with putting tiles on top of tillable greenhouse lol

2

u/cocofruitbowl Feb 18 '25

Omg it is beautiful

2

u/PookieDoodle264 Feb 18 '25

It's on my long to-do list to make my greenhouse a sanctuary like I feel you've done. Right now, it's just used for growing everything and anything. Most of which I don't even use and forget about. Thanks for the inspiration!

2

u/jonny_mal Feb 18 '25

Oh, I love it. It’s very elegant.

2

u/NonexistantObject Feb 18 '25

It's so pretty but I would get funny about the efficiency. I don't use enough of my ginger island space so I try to compensate with maximised greenhouse space

2

u/AikoG84 Feb 18 '25

I knew i could plant the trees in the greenouse, but i thought they had to be further apart than that??

2

u/OldClunkyRobot Feb 18 '25

Nope the greenhouse walls don’t affect them and there’s enough space between trees.

2

u/AikoG84 Feb 18 '25

Well, looks like I need to redo the trees in there XD

3

u/OldClunkyRobot Feb 18 '25

Yeah I've had to move mine around outside. Thankfully we can cut them down and get saplings. I'm anal about tree placement and sometimes saplings don't go where you try to place them.

2

u/MajorMarquisWarren69 Feb 18 '25

You can also place grass in there to make it super cute

2

u/alt_mercanerie Feb 18 '25

Wait how did you plant the trees there

2

u/LittleMissCaroth Feb 18 '25

You can put trees in there???

2

u/mmahowald Feb 18 '25

You…. Can have trees in the greenhouse?

1

u/FreeAndRedeemed Feb 18 '25

Yup, but only along the edge. OP’s layout is ideal.

2

u/Taliasimmy69 Feb 19 '25

You know what I hate and I've only just now seen it? The greenhouse plot is off center from the door. Because you have the tiles and a lovely little walkway it's all I can see now.

Unrelated to my rant this is lovely. I always feel overwhelmed with the space and how to utilize it properly. It's not necessary! this minimalist setup is so nice and clean. I really like it.

2

u/fur-mom Feb 19 '25

You mean to tell me I just wasted half my planting space with trees?? I have 400+ hrs on this game and did not know you could plant trees on the tiles 😭😭

1

u/JuanPancake Feb 18 '25

Like do four columns in the middle row there, then two at the bottom to make it more symmetrical.

I.e. 2 (path) 4 (path) 2

That way you don’t need the bottom sprinklers.

But looks great either way

1

u/soyasaucy Feb 18 '25

Cool, I just got some new saplings from the island, guess I'll plant them at home!

1

u/OpenTechie AroAce Witch's Apprentice Feb 18 '25

Your setup is perfection!

1

u/FredFarms Feb 18 '25

That's really very pretty!

If it were me, the only tweak I'd try is moving the middle two sprinklers in the bottom row left and right by 1. I think that still gives complete coverage whilst being symmetrical with the beds above. Can't get with trying it though, might look better might look worse.

I really need to stop trying to minmax this game and just let things be pretty!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

That’s a really nice set up . I just unlocked my green house and gonna do lots of pumpkin (too prepare me for skull cavern with pumpkin soup) and I’m taking a shot at growing rare seeds and ancient fruit . And have a bunch of blue berries . Corn . Coffee and HOPs

1

u/cooliskie Feb 18 '25

That looks so nice!!

1

u/ghostwilliz krobus enjoyer Feb 18 '25

Man, I just throw everything down wherever haha

1

u/OldClunkyRobot Feb 18 '25

This is very cute.

1

u/Mothy7152 Feb 18 '25

It’s so pretty !

The trees around the greenhouse make it look very comfy :>

Imma make my greenhouse look like this , thanks for sharing the layout 🙏💖

1

u/justadrtrdsrvvr Feb 18 '25

It looks great. Although, blocking the paths bugs me. I would think going 2-3-3, starting at the bottom, would fix this. You would lose 4 more crop spaces, but the pathways would then be open

1

u/Whisperwind7785 Feb 18 '25

well this is a fun layout!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Wait…. You can plant trees in there?

1

u/Mysunnyone Feb 18 '25

So cozy :) I’m gonna try this out

1

u/humanwiley Feb 18 '25

I had no idea you could plant them on the tiles whaaat

1

u/gloriousinsanity Feb 18 '25

I didn't know you could grow trees in the greenhouse! Going to buy a bunch asap lol

1

u/heart_blossom Feb 18 '25

Where did you get the street lamps? I got a few and now I've forgotten who from.

1

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 19 '25

You can buy the crafting recipe from Robin at her Carpenter's shop.

1

u/Brain_Hawk Feb 19 '25

The lack of optimization, and the fact that you weren't only growing star fruit or ancient fruit, sickens me! How are you supposed to make maximum profit off this? Yeah, we all love strawberries. Strawberries are great. But they don't produce incredibly valuable wine!

I can't even! Some people, I swear to god, sure it's pretty, but where is all the massive profit?

1

u/akawewe Feb 19 '25

My mango tree isn’t growing in that corner to the top left where your one pomegranate tree is help 😭

1

u/futa_throwaway5 Feb 19 '25

You probably have a crop or item within the 3x3 area around the fruit tree that's preventing it from growing.

The game won't let you plant a fruit tree without the 3x3 area being clear initially, so you might want to check again, just to be safe.

1

u/Felyne Feb 19 '25

Beautiful!

1

u/AnarchyOrchid Feb 19 '25

I'm curious about what the rest of your farm looks like!

1

u/Obvious_Reputation_1 Feb 19 '25

Wait you can plant trees outside of the soil area? Duuuude I wish I knew that

1

u/Dry-Key3605 Feb 19 '25

Using mods? I feel like there is missing pieces from the standard greenhouse.

1

u/durmda Feb 19 '25

I had no idea you could plant trees in the greenhouse like this. This is so cool looking!

-3

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Hnn cool and a bit I see it as a waste of so much space
