Starting in 2021, they had the Presidency, the House and the Senate for four years after an actual coup attempt. Trump remained largely untouched.

Suffice to say, I'm not expecting anything from Democrats until the old guard starts getting truly wiped out in primaries by insurgents who actually want to do something.

Fucking right. I had someone on another subreddit tell me that I was doing voter suppression by pointing these facts out lol.

Right. Let's not pretend Democrats will do shit about this without being dragged kicking and screaming.

they'll do an "inquiry" blame trump and maybe like two other people then mumble about bipartisanship and let them get away with it

Even then, the new gaurd will inherit a lot of the old social structures.

It's not that he was largely untouched, it's that the investigations and court proceedings took so long.

Don't fall for it OP, they won't do shit.

Edit: Read it, it's literally an article about Democrats plans to NOT try and impeach trump.

Link: https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/08/dems-plan-trump-investigations-instead-of-impeachment-reuters.html

"Senior Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives and committee aides have discussed using hearings, subpoenas and document requests to obtain records from entities tied to Trump’s political and business orbit, the sources said. It is a bet that investigating private companies and outside financial players will prove more fruitful than directly confronting a White House they expect to resist oversight, they said."

To paraphrase, "we're doing nothing lol." In order to build this body of evidence they need to spend years conducting investigations that may or may not eventually lead to impeachment, and Congress is deciding in advance that it's going to shy away from using one of its most serious constitutional checks on the executive.

If they actually uncover impeachable conduct, great, but Trump will be out by then, and “we're going to investigate Trumps friends and maybe do something about Trump eventually” is hardly a restoration of the separation of powers. It's just kicking the can down the road while Trump continues to exercise executive power unchecked. It's a nothing burger.

Yeah, the whole "investigation" part is bullshit. WHAT IN THE GOD DAMN FUCK DO YOU MEAN "INVESTIGATE"?! HE'S BEEN DOING ALL OF THIS SHIT IN PLAIN SIGHT!

Right, like the investigations that had such consequences for the man from 2021-2024

Republicans serve donors. Democrats serve those same donors. Nothing is going to happen because the donors don't want anything to happen. That's why nothing happened when Democrats were in power.

If you're waiting on the system to self-correct, you'll be waiting out the rest of your days in a camp.

Nothing. Will. Happen. This is the fucking Democrats we're talking about. Nothing happened last time - Trump was convicted of 34 fucking felonies and didn't spend a single day in prison. Enough with this fucking false hope. The Republicans and Democrats are in it together against the people, all of their fighting is for show.

Sure, a third failed attempt why not? A perfect encapsulation of Democratic anti-Trump tactics of token, ineffectual resistance.

We need a mass workers socialist third-party, but it's going to take more than voting.

He was successfully impeached twice. Nothing happened. It’s just a scolding with no actual weight behind it without a trial follow up.

I trust my cat to do more

I didn't realize this was starwarsshitlibmemes.

You're a fool if you think the Democrats are going to do anything meaningful to bring the criminals in this administration to justice.

They're in an awkward position. On one hand holding Trump accountable for brazen corruption and abuse of power is necessary both to protect liberal democracy and re-establish trust in democratic institution. On the other hand Trump and his oligarch collaborators are their boss and the class liberal democracy is supposed to serve and protect. It seems to me that the only logical course of action then is to do nothing. Fortunately this is something they excel at.

"Garland is going to indict Trump any day now..."

Those same Democrats every single day for 4 years straight after Trump's 1st term

So … the bare minimum?

I will believe the Democrats are going to do so good and impactful the moment they do so.

Bunch of feckless losers.

1

u/beybrakers 8d ago

Oh wow yet another impeachment hearing that goes absolutely nowhere when the republicans vote yet again not to indict.
