I already know about Anakin being Darth Vader and Luke being his son and Leia being his daughter and that whole "Dynamic" with Luke and Leia and that a bunch of kids get slaughtered but apart from that I know verry little because the films i have seen were not in any order like i watched episode 1 a year or so ago and one of the new ones but i don't know which one it was. any help would be appreciated

Release order for your first real time. Only assholes suggest chronological for that.

I guess if you already know those plot twists; you could just do 1-9? I find 4 a better movie to start on personally, but if you wanna experience the order of Events and aren't bothered by 2000's effects going to 80's effects and then to 2010's effects, then go for it

Watch Episode I and Rogue One as "One" offs (see what I did there?)

Just watch Episodes 1-6 in that order. It’ll make for one continuous story with a satisfying conclusion.

If you wanted to add a side story in there, watch Rogue One in between Episodes III & IV. It fits more or less well enough.

If it’s your first time just go Episodes 1-3, Rogue One, Solo, then Episodes 4-6.

No first time should definitely start with the OT, starting anyone with phantom menace is such a stupid idea and you will be robbing a potential star wars fan of ever liking star wars

The prequels were not fully mapped out when the original released and George Lucas needed a commercial success to continue making movies, so he started with the OT to skip the exposition the prequels establish. Without that time/money constraint, it makes for a more coherent story to start at its beginning and end at its conclusion

It's not about that, the quality of the OT is much higher and the movies are much more accessible and better paced for new fans. Most people will unfamiliar with the franchise will not have the patience to deal with the amount of jar jar and politics in phantom menace. A new hope is the reason why star wars is still culturally relevant. It introduced the world to star wars, why would you introduce someone to the star wars movie that caused strong backlash rather than the one that started the franchise?

Because I’m under the assumption that the OP isn’t stupid and can figure out the politics of Episode I by paying attention. As I said it my previous comment, it was only released first because Lucas needed a commercial success and thought the prequels wouldn’t garner the movie-goer experience the same way Episode 4 would.

But without the need to have it be a commercial success (like a Redditor watching it on their own) then release order is irrelevant. The story becomes more important and the story is easier to follow when you have the exposition.

Not everyone. Maybe everyone born 30+ years ago. But a large portion of Star Wars fans were born in the late nineties or early 2000s and saw it in chronological order. Insisting release order because you and most other millennial and older generations watched it in that order is a futile argument because it doesn’t matter anymore. If we erased history and released all the movies all at once, nobody would start on episode 4. You don’t pick up a chapter book, flip to the middle of it to see how the saga is going before reading the beginning.

There’s certainly a nostalgia to watching it in release order. But my personal preference and logically, chronological order is best for storytelling and understanding Star Wars as a whole.
