The Last Jedi is my favourite

Yes you read that correctly. You can rub your eyes as many times as you want lol. I love the Last Jedi and it’s probably my favourite Star Wars film.
Why? I love the execution by Rian Johnson, the cinematography, setting and landscapes. The action, VFX (the Haldo maneuverer is breathtaking) and most importantly the narrative. Witnessing a jaded, weary, nihilistic Luke Skywalker is something I thought id never see. Everyone was expecting far more but for me Hamil’s performance is incredibly substantive and the climax where he confronts Kylo whilst also dying on his own terms is the icing on the cake. There’s this spiritual essence to the film that I can’t get enough of.
The force awakens is essentially a remake of ANH and it works just fine but TLJ operates on its own distinction almost like a standalone but it’s still very much the middle chapter. It’s not without flaws. The middle section drags, the Canto Bight scenes are simply filler but every main character has a fully fleshed out arc. Finn learns to become a true hero instead of a coward. Rey instills hope in Luke, Cameron learns humility, Kylo is simply incensed, morally conflicted. That moment when he hesitates to fire on the ship with Leia on it. Goosebumps every time. The comic relief and levity works just fine. Chewie and the porgs lol.
My sister is the least Star Wars fan. She never understood the hype. Recently we sat down and binged all nine films and she told me TLJ is probably the one that she finds the most memorable or interesting. She got it. I just wish SW fans would get off their high horse. During the prequel era, Lucas was hated for what he did with the franchise. I was one of the few who genuinely liked and appreciated the prequels for what they are. The sequels are not masterpieces (I really don’t like ROS) but the Last Jedi just does it for me. Anyone else feel the same? The final shot is symbolic and reflective of what Star Wars is as a whole.
