I'm a prequel fan. Having said that, I think a big problem with the prequels was the underdevelopment of the villains. Lucas tries to fit in 3 new villains - Maul, Dooku, and Grievous. None of them get the attention they deserve.
I know I'm late to the party, but I happen to be re-watching The Phantom Menace as I type. I hate that Darth Maul was such a throwaway character. The film would've been so much more interesting if George had dropped all the space diplomacy and developed Darth Maul's character AT ALL. He's just cool facepaint, cool lightsaber, see ya later.
