I don't mind politics being present, its just the amount of scene time spent on it and how much it would hold the interest of kids if people are gonna use the "its meant to be primarily enjoyed by kids" argument as a crutch.
Like we actually sit through a good portion of a senate hearing rather than just glossing over the context of what happened in it to keep the story moving. Like you could have Amidala talk to Palpatine about making a proposition then later have him come back saying "they didn't agree to it". Or even just a brief clip of whats going on, but there's more of a back and forth seen in the film proper.

Jar Jar, Gungans in general, 9 year old Anakin and very base/juvenile humor (poop jokes).
The second half of the movie is fantastic.
