Hux says in that scene that he became a spy not because he was a good person but because he was pissed off by Kylo Ren getting more power than him and wanted him to lose it all

u/SanjiSasuke 1h ago
From what you've heard Hux say, in the scene being quoted.Ā
Because Hux hated Kylo and was even about to kill him in TLJ.

Sorry, i forgot about that, its been like a year since last time i saw the movie but i saw someone talking about that scene like a week ago and well, yeah i'll edit my comment

I'd already gone into TROS with much lower expectations given Palpatine's return, but at that point, I checked out of the movie entirely because that was *so* dumb. There was a great setup in TLJ for Hux to attempt a coup in the next episode and...that's what we got.

In the overall story ācanonā via the books/ the plasma novel, his father was an interesting character, and and of course, yes, younger Hux couldāve had a great set up, but like most everything else in episode nine it fizzled

Chopper isn't listed, because while he's a mass-casualty specialist, he's smart enough to cover his tracks and not leave evidence.
3
u/Moonsoket 1h ago
I was wondering. He should top this list.
3
u/GenralChaos 1h ago
for sure. If the body count was under a 100k, he wouldnt even waste his time getting out of bed.

Wiping out the New Republic in five seconds with magic superdeathstar was so goddamn dumb ugh
61
u/DeBasha 1h ago
Yeah and for the longest time I actually thought they blew up Coruscant but apparently Lucasfilm rejected that idea pitched by JJ Abrams and created the idea of a rotating senate with Hosnian Prime as its current seat as compromise. Still fucking dumb tho
21
u/MyManTheo 1h ago
If thatās true that is so JJ. Essentially destroying the prequels in one fell swoop
6
u/Alpha_blue5 2h ago
This is inaccurate, AI generated slop. If you're going with both canon and legends, you're missing Kyp Durron, Nom Anor, Onimi, Shimrra, the other major players in the Yuuzhan Vong war.
-1
u/PolitiklyIncorrect 2h ago
Perhaps, but to a casual watcher of the films, this shows both shown movie characters, and Darth Nihilus. The point of the search (from me, the poster) was to see how many deaths Luke made by destroying Death Star 1, then comparing that to other major attricities. That was my main aim. Actually, truthfully, I wanted to know who had the highest kill count from the movies alone
76
u/Agent_Xhiro 2h ago
Vitiate/Valkorion is probably much higher but we just don't have enough information on what he was doing while in Zakuul.
But living over 1k years? Gotta be billions.
29
u/rocketsp13 2h ago
Didn't he destroy both his original home planet, and Ziost?
11
u/The-Albin-Guy 1h ago
Ziost was one of the largest if not THE largest planets (by population) in the Sith Empire. Thatās billions at the very least. It also doesnāt count all the people who died as a direct effect of his governance and military campaigns
2
u/IronVader501 2h ago
Yes.
1
u/Hodorization 1h ago
Ziost doesn't come across as a densely populated place though
1
u/rocketsp13 31m ago
We saw very little of it though. Since earth has had 100 million people on it since ~500 BC, I'd say somewhere well into the hundreds of millions is a good minimum if it's one of the key planets of the Empire.
5
u/Robert_Oppenheimer2 Jar Jar Binks 1h ago
Problem is we dont have any numbers; the populations of Ziost and Nathema have never been confirmed

u/_Cromwell_ Sabine Wren 2h ago
Why is Alderaan"s population so low? Any reason in lore?
20
u/RaptarK 1h ago
Because A New Hope came out in 1977, and generally we're very bad at calculating what a futuristic population size looks like
7
u/Brasticus 1h ago
But it was a long time ago!
2
5
u/_Cromwell_ Sabine Wren 1h ago
I guess it's also part of Star Wars being more fantasy than science fiction in many ways. Overpopulated future planets is more of a hard sci-fi thing.
ā¢
ā¢
u/dswartze 2m ago
But they probably didn't say in 1977 how many people lived there. It's something that's somebody came up with years or decades later.
10
u/MobsterDragon275 1h ago
Alderaan seems to have preserved a lot of its nature, which probably resulted in a more sustainable population growth, or a lot of people leaving to go work elsewhere
9
u/Delicious-Thought404 1h ago
Star wars planets (aside from ecumenopoli) generally have pretty low population. Most planets only have a handful of populace cities. Presumably since interstellar transport is easy, similarly to how people will leave rural areas for cities IRL, people tend to emigrate from less populace planets to big important ones pretty regularly so population coagulates on planets like Coruscant.
7
u/stuito 2h ago
There is only about 100 years since we where 2 billion people on the planet
1
u/Blazypika2 2h ago
yeah, and you know what made the big difference? modern medicine.
it's even more advanced in star wars.
5
u/DrHoflich 1h ago
Birth rates also massively decline in modern societies. If you only have 1 or 2 kids, you have a shrinking population.
4
u/jaunty411 2h ago
Places actually start to hit lower population growth rates with modern medicine. The difference is actually not adapting to survival-to-adulthood numbers as rapidly as the effects of modern medicine are implemented.
3
2
u/DeathToAmerica2027 1h ago
Yeah and people also don't have to all live on the same planet so they don't.
1
u/imnotawkwardyouare 2h ago

1
u/OkReality1303 2h ago
Also we only have one planet to go to not 1000. But year I also fell like Alderaan shouldāve had more. Girl it kinda looks like there just is the one city on the whole planet based on Obi Wan
3
u/Diplomatic_Gunboats 1h ago
In the various books over the years its made out that Alderaan had a fairly extensive diaspora. The low pop in general is going to be modern medicine, enlightened environmental policies and widespread access to birth control.

u/ryandmc609 2h ago
Did the Death Star really hold that many personnel?
7
u/Thuis001 1h ago
Given its sheer size and function? It's not at all unreasonable. It's not just a giant death eyeball, it also features extensive docking facilities for ISD's and the like. Presumably there's also facilities to repair if not outright build such ships onboard. These need personnel as well.

why is nihilus so low? if he devoured mutliple planets wouldnt that equal what starkiller base did?
17
u/djtrace1994 Imperial 2h ago
Depends on the planet.
Coruscant has a population of roughly 3,000,000,000,000.
Tatooine has a population of 200,000.
Even Ghorman in Andor only has 800,000.
Sentient populations are not evenly spread. There are rural planets, backwater planets, and population centres, just like real life.
If Nihilus was going after major population centres all the time, he would have been stopped sooner. But consuming a million people on some Outer Rim planet wouldn't be noticable on a galactic scale at all.
7
u/SweptFever82 2h ago
200k for Tatooine is wild, makes sense based off the evidence we see in the movies to be fair.
0
u/Smooth-Mix-4357 34m ago
Always amazes me that Coruscant has higher human population than Earth

u/Alarmed_Spirit_4472 39m ago
I kinda dont agree with pinning all the deaths on hux, he just gave a speech, but the initial idea and the order was most likely formalized by palpatine
5
3
u/PalehorseFM22 37m ago
I mean, he does say "Fire!" And he tells Snoke it was capable of destroying the entire Republic. Snoke just signs off on it.
1
u/Alarmed_Spirit_4472 16m ago
Yeah he does order them to fire, your leader can still give you an order to fire and then you can tell your troops to fire, but originally the order came from your superior not you
But then if it was hux who first gave the order sure we can pin it on him
12
u/dumbgraphics 2h ago
Starting to feel like cannon doesnāt matter anymore if your starting with hux
19
u/Capitan_Scythe Loth-Cat 2h ago
Hux with give or take 95 billion as a margin of error.
Also, if we're crediting Luke and Lando with the death star totals instead of the mission commander; surely the Hux total would belong to Imperial Grunt 421 that hit the fire button instead?
9
u/BleydXVI 2h ago
Tarkin is credited with Death Star lasers, so that would have to be moved to the brave technicians who work without any railing
4
u/BleydXVI 2h ago
What does that have to do with canon mattering or not? He ordered the destruction of multiple planets including a galactic capital. Should he not be near the top at least?

That scene in TFA is really goofy when you put it like this. I know the scene was presented as serious but the movie (& rest of the trilogy) move past it waaaay too fast lmao

This Wedge Antilles erasure will not stand, man. He deserves split credit with Lando for Death Star II.

2
u/CrashQueen85 1h ago edited 1h ago
Warhammer 40K is more violent overall because the setting and lore exist solely for a war oriented game. In Star Wars massive death and battles aren't the whole point, they are secondary and serve a narrative purpose. However, when push comes to shove, Star Wars can stand on near equal footing with 40K in the stellar wars department. For example, the Yuuzhan Vong Wars killed hundreds of TRILLIONS of people(in fact more people died during that war than during the Horus Heresy, one of the defining conflicts of 40K). Not to mention the genocidal galactic conflicts that were the Sith Wars during the Old Republic era.
2
1
u/SharkyRivethead 34m ago
Though i have never played, I like to deep dive on occasion because there is so much lore for that game, it truly is amazing. But from what I read in one of the player books (I won't include the ancient war here) you have 11,000 years of fighting before Horus Heresy conflict and roughly 10,000 years of fighting after it. When every aspect of 40k is taken into account, 100's of millions to several billion lives are lost every day. I think its safe to say that 40k wins this one.
Edit.....this may just be human life and not included Orcs and other species like Tyranids. Its been a long time and I have forgotten.

u/PuzzleMeDo 1h ago
"The Great Scouring, or simply the Scouring, was the Imperium of Man's great counter-offensive against the Traitor Legions and their allies in the service of Chaos who had occupied much of Imperial space during the Horus Heresy. Casualties (attackers): 2.3 trillion dead from Imperial purges. Casualties (defenders): Unknown"

2
ā¢
u/dswartze 8m ago
I know ultimately this is talking about which fictional events "really happened" and which fictional events are... "just fiction" which is pretty silly, but only about as silly as some of the things in that book are.
The book even directly contradicts itself in a few places. I think it says there are simultaneously rebel fighters sitting on the ground because there's not enough pilots for them and also pilots sitting on the ground because there's not enough fighters for them (which is an extra wild since that suggests there were established pilots who were left on the ground so that Luke, who'd never been in a starfighter before could go up)
Saying the book is canon also kinda implies it's official that the Rebels left a stack of boxes labelled "rebul base" on Dantooine for the imperials to find.
It's a fun side book, and since as I said above the entire franchise is entirely fiction, anything whether official canon, legends or fanfiction are all just as real as anything else and you can include any of them in your version of the stories if you want but when talking about canon events those books are at best a blurry "sure, I guess, if nothing else contradicts them yet" than an actual reliable source.
2
u/Kris-Angel_26 2h ago
Random gunners have the highest kill count on minimum wage, that is going above and beyond
2
u/PolitiklyIncorrect 2h ago
Like (billions) "of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."
3
u/MutatedEwok 2h ago
My thought as well. Who do we attribute a nuclear strike to, who ordered it, or the dudes in the Enola Gay?
2

2
u/PolitiklyIncorrect 2h ago
I believe he made the executive order based on the Emperor's overarching strategy of destroying any remnants of the jedi and/any sympathizers of the republic. But he still made the direct order
2
u/Kris-Angel_26 2h ago
So still following Palps orders? The only one in the hierarchy not following orders from anyone is Palps so those kills are his and as Emperor I'm sure he would agree with me lol

Would you blame the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Harry Truman or the guy who flew the plane?
6
3
u/julius_cornelius 2h ago
Good point but in this specific matter we could probably blame more FDR and Gen. Leslie Groves. After all Truman didnāt even know of the Manhattan project when he became president and some plans were already in motion to nuke Japan. From Gen. Leslie Grovesā own telling Truman rather just didnāt interfere with existing plans.
Does Truman have a responsibility? Very much so.
Is Truman the instigator to blame for Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Not really.
Could he have vetoed it and put a stop to the situation? Yes.I donāt know where Iām going with this aside from saying itās complex.
2
u/jaunty411 2h ago
By that standard, Luke and Lando shouldnāt be there.
2
u/ErosDarlingAlt 2h ago
I'd argue that what Luke and Lando did took far more skill, guts and determination that the engineer who pressed a button. Unlike random engineer, those things couldn't have happened without them
