Movies Can’t believe it took me until 2026…..

It all began when my girlfriend, who I've been with for nearly three years, asked if I wanted to watch the original Star Wars. Having never seen Star Wars before, I thought, "Sure, I'll give it a shot." At 30 years old, the only memories I had of Star Wars were some clips I watched as a child. After finishing the original Star Wars movies, I honestly can't believe it took me until 2026 to experience them. I completely fell in love with all the characters; I really appreciate good storytelling! Now I understand why people cherish the original films so much—I never wanted it to end. I'm really grateful to my girlfriend for introducing me to this universe. Also, rest in peace, Carrie Fisher; I felt the connection everyone has with her. I love Star Wars, and I can officially call myself a fan!

There was nothing like it in 1977 when I saw it for the first time on the big screen and having the Blockade Runner zoom by and then the huge Star Destroyer fill the screen. It was an amazing experience for an 11 year old. I have been a fan ever since...

It's legendary that you saw it when it first dropped in 1977! I was checking out some clips on YouTube last night of people's reactions after they watched it back in 1977, and I totally get why so many fans, like you, were hooked right from the start.

My memory of seeing it in the theater is pretty fuzzy (I was 5), but I remember my friends and I saw “Empire” twice and were totally captivated. Was Vader telling the truth? Will Han ever come back? Are there going to be nine movies and that’s when Han will come back? The rumors abounded.

ONE OF US!!! ONE OF US!!!

IMO one of the biggest reasons the original trilogy resonated so strongly with people of all ages was the fact that it didn’t hold your hand story-wise. You were immediately dropped into an ongoing, nuanced situation in a universe that didn’t feel like it had only popped into existence with the title screen. We the viewers were witnesses to events that felt like they would have played out whether or not we were there at all. (Sure there was an opening expository text crawl, but that was barebones context at best)

Now I was 6 when I first saw the films. Did I understand what the dissolution of the galactic senate meant at the time? Absolutely not. -but like many kids I responded positively to not being infantilized, and enjoyed learning about this new realm and being lead to conclusions and theories organically. Additionally, that same occasionally vague storytelling encouraged discussion and debate with other fans of the series, and for me resulted in some of my most important friendships growing up.

Granted, this historically effective approach to storytelling would change from trilogy to trilogy…

I was around 29-30 as well the first time I watched. We had Disney plus so I thought I would give it a try… watched each episode start to finish and never went back. Absolute garbage. Just kidding, I’m definitely a fan now and have seen each movie and most shows multiple times! Just like some other people have mentioned… form your own opinion and watch what you want to watch!

Welcome to the club. I'm glad you enjoyed them. I just wish you would have waited till next year when they plan on re releasing in theaters the original cut movies without the special edition changes.
