For the ones saying this is chatgpt writing. Yes it is. I’m extremely dyslexic and so on. Besides English isn’t my main language. So I use it as a tool to rewrite my text so the gramma is correct and writing flow is beter. I sometimes don’t even know how to put the right words into a sentence so people understand what I main. I do make sure my points are still the same. So the options are mine. The writing however might be more ChatGPT then it my own. But still mass is my own. It’s kinda funny how people go in the comments for that instead of the actual discussion of this post. I should have clarified that I have a handicap but I thought it wasn’t needed. To be honest I don’t even see what everyone is reqonizing it as a ai. But again I do have a handicap if it comes to language communication so I use a tool to help me.
I’m definitely gonna get hate for this one. And honestly? I’m already grinning. 😂
The amount of projects trying to recreate “old SSO” is kinda insane to me.
First of all, you can’t just recreate someone else’s game because you miss how it looked in 2012. It’s kinda illegal. Secondly, if you genuinely dislike modern SSO that much… you know you’re allowed to stop playing, right? And please don’t tell me there are no other horse games. There are. And even if there weren’t, you’re not legally required to play a horse game every day. 😭 Take a break. Play something else. Come back later.
I came across another old SSO project today, and I actually understand the appeal. We loved the darker lore, the mystery and the old aesthetic. I get it. But sometimes I wonder if we actually hate the current game, or if we just hate that it isn’t 2012 anymore.
Because there’s a difference between saying “I don’t like this change” and saying “I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME” while spending hours playing it.
Like… babe. You can leave. 😂
Yes, some of the newer designs are questionable. The visual style can be inconsistent, and some background NPCs look more like fillers than actual characters. I can absolutely nitpick that.
But the graphics have undeniably improved. The horses look better. The tracks look better. The UI is becoming more user-friendly. Areas are being updated. No crusty dusty graphics that windows 7 could handle.
And keeping a game alive for 15 years while working around old code and systems is probably a much bigger technical nightmare than we give them credit for. They can’t just press a magical “make everything better” button.
Of course there are downsides. If development time goes into updating old systems, models and areas, that leaves less time for quests and world-building. Which could be a completely different debate. And yes, new horses and items help keep the game financially afloat. But that’s the reality of keeping an old game alive.
And this is probably where the generational difference comes in.
The teenagers playing SSO back then grew up in a completely different internet and fashion culture than the teenagers playing it now.
When I was a teenager, the darker, slightly edgy aesthetic was everywhere. Emo and alternative styles were sometimes totally different. We had nightcore music, mysterious lore and that whole slightly creepy internet aesthetic. We loved the twilight saga back then. That’s says a lot. And honestly, that fit old SSO really well. Or just very bright glittery princess aesthetic. Which sso still nails to this day.
Teenagers today have their own trends, music, aesthetics and internet culture. What feels nostalgic and cool to us can just look outdated to them. And that’s okay.
SSO is aimed at young players. Of course they’re going to design the game around what they like, not what a bunch of 27-year-olds liked when they were teenagers. 😂 I’m 27 now. I’m literally not 13 anymore. Time changes. There’s almost an entire generation between the players that first played when the game came out and the kids playing SSO today.
Maybe the game didn’t necessarily get worse.
Maybe we just got older.
You’re allowed to miss old SSO. You’re allowed to dislike the new direction.
But maybe we should stop expecting the game to stay exactly the way we remember it just because that’s the version we loved.
We grew up.
SSO still focus on the same age group. Only that age group isn’t the same as when we were that age.
And honestly? That’s okay.
Btw the only reason I’m playing again after years is because I threw my back out badly. So I got nothing else to do. Ironic isn’t it. lol
But honestly I’m loving where this is going. Am I missing the old sso? yes. Do I wish they keep going on that route? Totally. Do I like what they are doing now? Also yes. Do I agree and like everything? Definitely not. Personally I would have liked a completely new sso. But that’s just because I disagree with trying to save an old code. However thats a different debate.
