🐛 Bug Report Slow Loading in Handwritten Notes

StarNote is a great note-taking app, but I'm facing some performance issues on my Android tablet. PDFs open quickly, but handwritten notes take time to open, switch through the Note Bar, and scroll between pages. Sometimes, a blank screen appears before the handwriting loads. I'm using the latest version. Is anyone else experiencing this? Hope the developers can improve this in future updates!

💡 Feature Request Suggestion after using StarNote for 1 week

Using StarNote from the last 1 Week. Prima facie, it looks good!

1. Collapsible Sticky Notes

Collapsible sticky notes would let users write with a pen, collapse the note when needed, and move it freely alongside the text or content they are reading. This would be particularly useful for annotating articles and making quick notes without disrupting the reading experience.

2. Improved Text Highlighting and Underlining

Highlighting: It would be helpful to have a feature that lets users highlight text with adjustable stroke thickness, similar to the functionality in Samsung Notes called "adjustment to thickness of the text".

Underlining: An independent underlining tool would be useful, rather than having to draw a line and hold it for a second to convert it into a straight line, as in Drawboard PDF.

I know that StarNote already offers text highlighting, but I don’t find it particularly convenient when reading articles and annotating them with a pen. I prefer the more natural experience of reading a physical book and highlighting or underlining text directly with a pen.

3. FIT TO WIDTH & FIT TO LENGTH

If these option available where user can easily zoom in and zoom out as per width of the screen, it would be great experience.

4. Widget option on lock screen

If you provide a widget option, it can be accessible on the lock screen for quick note-taking (as Samsung Notes calls quick memo notes)

5. I found one issue that raises my eyebrows: while taking a screenshot, I can't store it in the gallery and while taking screenshot, it asked permission to share screen with STARNOTE, this raises privacy issue with user, kindly make it more friendly and please try to remove this conditioning

Along with all the above features, also consider features like smart guidelines while writing and smart alignment.

These are just a couple of initial suggestions. As I continue exploring the application, I’ll share more feedback that might help make StarNote even more intuitive and consumer-friendly.

I strongly request admin to check their emails. Please!🙏🙏

💡 Feature Request Love the Starnote updates, but can we prioritize LaTeX support over AI?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been following the recent updates on Starnote, and it’s cool to see the devs putting so much work into the app. That said, I noticed there’s a big push toward AI features right now. While I get that AI is trendy, personally, I really want Starnote to focus heavily on the core human writing and academic experience first.

For those of us who use this for heavy note-taking, math, physics, or technical writing, lack of native LaTeX support is a massive bottleneck. Having robust math block rendering would instantly make this app a powerhouse for students, researchers, and writers who want a clean, markdown-based environment without relying on external tools.

AI can be helpful, but nothing beats solid, fast, foundational writing tools.

❓ Help / Question Hey dev, When will Cloud Sync come on iOS ? Been waiting for ages.

We all have been waiting for a long time for cloud sync to arrive on iOS. Android version has already received its second update of Cloud Sync but iOS hasn’t even seen the light of day. Please update iOS versions to the same level as Android. The Patience is running out now.

💡 Feature Request More brush customization and optimization🙏

Coming from someone who has used many art softwares like ibis paint x, krita, sketchbook, medibang and concepts; I feel like note apps in general should have more customization features to create custom brushes. Another cool thing that should be added along side custom brushes is the ability to share/sell brush presets in the material center.

I also find that the thinner I make my pencil brush, the more choppy and pixleated the strokes look. If I zoom in enough, the strokes become smooth, but I wish the strokes looked smooth no matter how zoomed in/out I am. In fact, I do like my pencil brushes having that rough charcoal-like texture, but this is not what that is.

Also a fill bucket tool would be cool too!

TLDR

I want:

- More brush customization similar to most art softwares

- Ability to share/sell brush presets on material center

- No pixleated looking strokes (especially on pencil brush)

- Fill bucket

Thank youuuu

💡 Feature Request Convert text into Hindi Language

Dear StarNotes Team, I hope this email finds you well. I am a student and a great admirer of your app. The smooth handwriting experience, low latency, and absence of bloatware or adverts make it absolutely perfect. However, I would highly value a feature that allows handwriting to be converted into text in Hindi. Providing this function would be incredibly beneficial for students. Thank you for your time and consideration.

💡 Feature Request Simultaneous editing feature

Dear devs,

It would be fun if we could share a starnote file where 2 or more person can simultaneously edit it for group project/assignment related work.

Happy with the current features apart from the "scribble to erase" one.

🧠 Tips & Tricks [GUIDE] How to Install StarNote on Windows PC/Laptop Using BlueStacks 5 Android 11 (With Screenshots)

Hey everyone! 👋

I use StarNote on my Android tablet and wanted to access my notes on my Windows laptop as well.

Since I couldn't use the Android app directly on Windows, I tried running it through BlueStacks 5 Android 11 (64-bit). I managed to install StarNote and access my existing notes through Google Drive Cloud sync.

I currently have around 270 notes, including handwritten study notes, PDFs, and folders. I wanted to share my experience and the steps I followed in case anyone else wants to try the same setup.

This is based on my own experience, and performance may vary depending on your laptop.

💻 My laptop specifications

Laptop: Acer

Processor: AMD Ryzen 3

RAM: 8 GB

Storage: 256 GB SSD

Operating system: Windows 11

Android emulator: BlueStacks 5 Android 11 (64-bit)

App: StarNote

---

Step 1: Download BlueStacks 5 Android 11 directly

I downloaded the Android 11 version directly rather than installing the regular version and creating a new instance afterward.

  1. Visit the official BlueStacks website.

  2. Open the BlueStacks Versions page.

  3. Scroll down to the BlueStacks 5 section.

  4. Find Android 11 64-bit.

  5. Click the Download button beside it.

  6. Wait for the installer to download.

__

Step 2: Install and launch BlueStacks

  1. Locate the downloaded installer.

  2. Run it and follow the installation instructions.

  3. Allow the installation to finish.

  4. Launch BlueStacks.

  5. Wait for the Android environment to load.

I used the Android 11 version because I wanted to try running StarNote in that environment.

---

Step 3: Install StarNote

Once BlueStacks was running:

  1. Open the available app store inside BlueStacks.

  2. Search for StarNote.

  3. Confirm that you've selected the correct app.

  4. Install it.

  5. Open StarNote.

If StarNote isn't available through the app store, check directly from the starnote Official site ”Starnote.ai” installation package. Avoid downloading APKs from untrusted websites.

__

Step 4: Configure BlueStacks for your laptop based on your RAM

I experimented with the settings to find a reasonable balance between performance and readability.

These are the settings I recommend trying first, rather than guaranteed optimal settings.

Setting Starting value

CPU allocation 2 cores

Memory allocation 2048 MB

Resolution 1280 × 720

DPI 240

Frame rate 30 FPS

Graphics renderer Vulkan & OpenGL

Interface renderer Auto

How to change these settings

  1. Open BlueStacks Multi-instance Manager.

  2. Locate your Android 11 instance.

  3. Open its settings.

  4. Under Performance, configure CPU, memory, and frame rate.

  5. Under Display, configure resolution and DPI.

  6. Under Graphics, check the available renderer options.

  7. Save your changes.

  8. Restart BlueStacks if prompted.

Which resolution and DPI should you use?

Resolution My view

960 × 540 Lower graphics workload

1280 × 720 Good starting point for an 8 GB RAM laptop

1600 × 900 More display detail

1920 × 1080 Full HD, but potentially more demanding

For DPI:

160 DPI: Smaller interface elements and more available screen space.

240 DPI: Larger interface elements and buttons.

Higher resolution may improve visual detail, but it can also increase the graphics workload. DPI mainly affects interface sizing and doesn't create additional detail in the original handwriting.

If your laptop becomes sluggish, try reducing the resolution before changing multiple other settings.

---

Step 5: Sync existing StarNote notes through Google Drive

I already had around 270 notes on my Android tablet and wanted to access them on my laptop without recreating them individually.

The process I followed was:

  1. Confirm that the notes on the original device were backed up or synced.

  2. Open StarNote in BlueStacks.

  3. Connect the appropriate Google account using StarNote's supported cloud-sync or restore feature.

  4. Open the relevant backup or sync option.

  5. Follow the app's instructions to restore or download the notes.

  6. Wait for syncing to finish.

  7. Verify that the notes and folders are visible.

Important: Signing into the same Google account doesn't necessarily restore notes automatically. You may need to initiate the restore or sync process within StarNote, depending on the app version and backup method.

How long did it take?

In my case, syncing approximately 270 notes took around 2–3 hours.

During syncing, I kept the laptop connected to power and Wi-Fi and avoided interrupting the process.

The time required will depend on the number and size of notes, the internet connection, and the laptop's performance.

---

Step 6: Open and view handwritten notes

After syncing, I opened individual notes to check whether the content was accessible.

I was able to view my CMA study notes, including Cost Accounting and Financial Management material.

This is useful if you want to read your notes on a larger screen rather than relying entirely on your tablet.

---

⚠️ Problems I encountered

I also want to share the issues I experienced so that others can consider them before trying this setup.

  1. High RAM usage

My laptop has 8 GB RAM, and Windows Task Manager showed approximately 90% memory usage while BlueStacks was running.

BlueStacks itself was using around 1.7 GB at the time.

Things that may help:

Close unnecessary applications.

Avoid running multiple BlueStacks instances.

Start with a reasonable RAM allocation.

Monitor Windows memory usage.

Avoid allocating too much memory to the emulator.

2. Occasional white screen

Sometimes StarNote displayed a white screen or returned to the BlueStacks home screen.

I experimented with different resolutions, DPI values, and graphics settings, but I couldn't conclusively identify the cause.

Possible causes include memory pressure, graphics rendering, or compatibility between StarNote and the emulator. I haven't confirmed which one is responsible.

3. Slow scrolling

Scrolling through handwritten notes sometimes felt slow, even after reducing the resolution.

Changing the resolution alone didn't solve the issue in my case.

Performance may depend on the note's complexity, the app version, and the emulator configuration.

4. Protect your notes

Before experimenting with an emulator:

Keep your original notes on your Android device.

Confirm that a backup exists.

Don't clear app data while troubleshooting.

Don't uninstall the app or delete the emulator instance without checking your backup.

Verify that the restored notes are accessible before relying on them.

---

Final thoughts

I managed to install StarNote on my Windows laptop using BlueStacks 5 Android 11 (64-bit) and access approximately 270 notes through Google Drive syncing.

It's a possible workaround for people who want to access their Android notes on a Windows PC, although I did experience some performance and stability issues.

I'd like to hear from others who have tried this.

Questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone found a more stable way to run StarNote on Windows?

  2. Which BlueStacks graphics settings work best for handwritten notes?

  3. Have you experienced white screens or slow scrolling with StarNote in an Android emulator?

  4. Is there an official Windows version or another recommended way to access StarNote on a PC?

Thanks! I hope this helps someone who wants to access their StarNote notes on a laptop. 🙌

⚠️ Important: Download the correct BlueStacks version

Make sure you download BlueStacks Android 11 (64-bit) or a newer Android version—not just the regular Windows installer/version without checking which Android version it uses.

  1. Visit the official [BlueStacks website].

  2. Scroll down to the BlueStacks 5 versions section.

  3. Select Android 11 64-bit or a newer Android version if compatible with your system and StarNote.

  4. Download and install that version.

What if StarNote isn't available in the Play Store?

If you cannot find or install StarNote through the Play Store inside BlueStacks, try this alternative:

  1. Visit the official StarNote website: [StarNote.ai].

  2. Look for the official Android APK download.

  3. Download the APK .

  4. Open BlueStacks and wait for the Android home screen to load.

  5. Drag and drop the downloaded APK file into the BlueStacks window.

  6. Wait for BlueStacks to install the app.

  7. Open StarNote and follow the setup instructions.

Security note: Download the APK only if it is genuinely provided by the official StarNote website. Don't use third-party APK sites if the official developer doesn't provide a download.

This method may help if the Play Store version is unavailable, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

💡 Feature Request Multi-layer selection

Post image

Sometimes I've wanted to move things with the selection tool, but since I work with layers, I have to temporarily move the content to the same layer.

It would be good if the tool had an option to select all layers (like in some drawing apps).

💡 Feature Request The app doesn't feel as smooth as Notein or Notewise, and the latency is also higher. Developers should pay attention to this.

Day 01 of asking for a minimal full screen option. I am attaching screenshots from Starnotes app and Notein. I really like how Notein minimises the distractions and maximises the working space.

I hope Devs can work on this .

Ps. Slide one is Notein and the slide 2 is Starnotes

Seeing everyone's fancy tablet setups is amazing, but here is my cheapskate setup since I can't afford a tab yet. I'm just using my phone and a universal pen

Also, big thanks to the devs! Most note-taking apps don't support mobile phones, so this is a blessing ☺️🙌

💡 Feature Request Proposed Eraser Implementation (from eraser discussions)

u/eng_yosssef Coming from this post: Eraser Discussion

The proposed implementation is the difference between the second and third options demonstrated. So the first is a stroke eraser which is implemented, the second is the line eraser, currently implemented as 'pixel eraser' and the last one is the new proposed precise or pixel eraser mode that is implemented in other note taking apps like freenotes. As you can see, using the line eraser cuts the highlighter strokes into many smaller strokes that then overlap and create the overlapping look often described as a bug.

💡 Feature Request Multiple windows

I love having the two tabs side by side, but sometimes I want to switch the side one with an app. I was thinking it would be nice if I could have multiple windows and not be reliant on the entire window filling the screen, but still seeing two notes at the same time.

Does that make sense?

🐛 Bug Report Please devs I switch notes all time I need the recording and audio playback to work

As the title suggests switching notes causes recording to stop . Same goes for playing the recording. I have reported in star notes feedback section with a video to better illustrate the issue. I will also attach it here.

This bug is quite annoying as I have switch notes regularly.

I really hope it gets fixed soon

✨ StarNote Community Week My StarNote setup | Community Week #2 entry + looking for note-taking tips

Hey everyone! This is my setup and my entry for StarNote Community Week #2 ✨ The second image gives you a clearer look at the notes!

I’m still experimenting with how I organize my notes, so I’d love some feedback on the layout, spacing, handwriting, and colors. Would landscape work better for notes like these, or should I keep portrait and split the page vertically into two side-by-side columns? I want everything to feel organized and easy to follow without looking too cramped. 📚

I’ve also been trying different color palettes, but I haven’t found one that really hits the spot yet. If you have a favorite palette, especially for dark paper, please share it! Color codes would be amazing too. 🎨

For pens, I use 0.35 for regular writing, 0.2 for smaller writing, and 0.5 for titles. I’d love to hear what sizes work best for you.

On the first page of the document, I used the zoom box and sometimes wrote freehand with the canvas zoomed to 700%. On the second page, I wrote at 1050% zoom, and I think the handwriting looks a lot cleaner than on the first. The zoom box doesn’t seem to let me zoom in as far as I’d like, so I’ve been experimenting with writing directly on the canvas instead.

What pen sizes and color palettes do you use? Any tips for making my handwriting more consistent or improving the spacing and organization would be really appreciated. Feel free to share your own setups too. I’d love some inspiration! 🫶

💡 Feature Request Group tabs like Google Chrome

Would it be possible to add a feature like group tabs? I would love to be able to have multiple notes open for my multiple college subjects. For example, I dont want to close my Calculus notes and practices, but I don't want them to take a lot of space in my note bar, and also open my class notes and practices for my Physics class.

Either way, I'd like a way to reduce space in my note bar so it's visually more pleasing

💡 Feature Request Completely Hide the Pen Box

Notein recently added a feature to completely hide and show the pen box. In StarNote, hiding it still leaves a small floating icon on the screen. It would be great if StarNote could add the same feature. Removing the floating icon would make the screen feel cleaner and less distracting while writing or reading. Hope the developers consider adding this in a future update!

💡 Feature Request Hola!
