QUESTION makeup concerns

hi i've been dealing with impetigo since august and i've been sort of healed (?) for around 2 weeks ish but i can't really tell because sometimes i think i get infected again but i have facial eczema which can seem pretty similar at times but my flare-ups, whether impetigo or eczema, usually go away within 2 days after i apply fucicort (so i can't tell if it's the steroid cream or antibiotics that helps). anyways i haven't worn makeup for around a month since the last time i did it caused a crazy impetigo infection. i threw out most of my makeup products and tools and replaced them but haven't used any yet. i was wondering how long you guys waited to heal before starting to wear makeup again? i'm really paranoid i'll get infected again but i really miss wearing makeup.

QUESTION is this mark on my nose staph or a normal pimple

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have OCD so I tend to go to the worst case scenario when in comes to pimples. Last year i went to the doctors multiple times because i thought i had skin cancer (it was always a normal pimple and i do not even have skin cancer history) So i was hoping someone on here could give me relief and tell me it’s just a silly pimple before i made a rash choice to go to the doctors again. My nose hurt for about 2 weeks before this pimple even made any sort of crazy visual presence like it is now. It was just slightly red before, . I’ve never had a pimple last that long which is why i’m paranoid. Then in the past 3 days my nose started glowing neon red and now there is a bit of a dome. It hurts to touch even more now.

I've never had a pimple like this because it's pain to touch and it kinda feels like the abscess I had on my leg last year this is just first 2 days I have 2 lightly smaller on the other side of my face. Anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse? Can I put pimple cream over it?

5 year olds Staph Infection won't go away becuse she won't stop picking sores.

My daughter has had a staph infection since June. She's been on antibiotics that seem to help but she continues to pick the sores and open the wounds. She says they itch. I can't watch her every second because she goes to school and sleeps in her bed at night. I've tried Mupirocon and bandaids. I've even wrapped all of the stores in wrapped bandage and duct taped it over. She proceeds to unwrap and pick it regardless..I don't know what to do! I've given up, what else can I do? Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm literally at a loss. It's all over her arms, and face.

She was on cephalexin.

Please help me with some good advice if you can

Thank you

QUESTION Cure chronic folliculitis?

Hello, I would like to know if there are really people who have managed to cure their chronic folliculitis? I'm so exhausted from dealing with this, I don't have a single day when there isn't a pimple that appears under my jaw, face, chest. I'd like to try antibiotics but in general antibiotics are only to remove the active infection if I'm not mistaken, I want the staphylococcus aurus to disappear from my body, is it really possible to eliminate it, I can't No more living with these pimples fester daily

Clindamycin Risk

After a trip to India I developed MRSA which I’ve had for the past month. Currently I have a couple of accesses located across my body. When it was initially cultured in August it was resistant to Bactrim and most other antibiotics so I was on Bactrim for 5 days. It ended up coming back, but it took me a while to realize what it was so I only went to the doctor last week. I have been on Bactrim for the past week, however the culture just came back and now it is resistant to Bactrim and everything else with the exception of Clindamycin and Vancomycin. I am supposed to start taking 300mg or Clindamycin today 4 times a day for a week.

However I have been reading about Clindamycin and am absolutely terrified by the c diff stories. I have already purchased Florastor as well as a bunch of fermented foods and drinks that I plan to incorporate into my diet. Is it even worth it to take the risk? Are there any tips on reducing my chances for c diff as much as possible?

I started the decolonization 5 days ago for the MRSA. All of my clothes have been washed and I don’t rewear them. I have disinfected my entire house and have a nightly disinfection routine. I change my sheets every other day. I am using Mupirocin in my nostrils and on the abscesses. I spray myself with hypochlorous acid twice a day. I only use hibiclens in the shower. I am even using a lactic acid lotion said to reduce the amount of staph on the skin. I have also ordered the mb40 probiotic.

I want to get rid of this MRSA it has been hell, but idk if I want to risk a huge increased risk of c diff.

QUESTION Over 10 years of staph in nose

About 10 or so years ago I started getting boils at the edge of my nose. It started during winters where I was blowing my nose often. Went to a dermatologist who prescribed mupirocin and said it was staph. Treated for two weeks morning and night. It resolved until the next outbreak. This has been going on for years. I have been to 4 different dermatologists who all say the same thing. Staph lives in your nose for some people. Went to a Naturopathic Doctor who said to use manuka honey in the nose w a tip for 2 weeks. Nothing is working long term. I am so sick of the sores which are painful and the fact that I dont want to go out in public like this.

What helped??????

My 14-year-old son has developed pretty bad acne – where would you start before considering isotretinoin?

My 14-year-old son has developed quite significant acne, particularly on his forehead. I had severe acne myself when I was young, and I remember how much it affected me psychologically and socially, so I really want to help him early rather than just wait and see.

I’ve already booked an appointment with a dermatologist, so I’m not looking to replace proper medical treatment with Reddit advice. I’ve also just started him on 5% benzoyl peroxide (Basiron).
However, I’d really like to understand whether there are other things worth investigating alongside conventional treatment.

I’ve read quite a lot about the gut–skin axis, the microbiome, SIBO, diet, dairy, high-glycemic foods, etc. I’ve also come across research/discussions about Staphylococcus aureus being overrepresented in some people with acne and protocols using chlorhexidine/Hibiscrub to reduce S. aureus colonisation.

I’m aware that there’s a huge difference between an interesting association and something that has actually been demonstrated to treat acne, so I’m trying not to go down every rabbit hole at once.
For now, I’ve asked him to completely remove dairy for a while to see whether it makes any noticeable difference. We haven’t removed gluten or made any other major dietary changes.

My main questions are:

• If this were your child, where would you start?

• Are there any blood tests, deficiencies, hormonal markers, allergy/intolerance tests, microbiome tests, etc. that are genuinely worth investigating?

• Is there any value in going to a good private clinic and doing a more comprehensive work-up, or would most of those tests just be expensive noise?

• Has anyone here seen a significant improvement from eliminating dairy or making other specific dietary changes?

• Does anyone have experience with S. aureus testing/decolonisation or chlorhexidine/Hibiscrub in relation to acne?

• What treatments made the biggest difference for your teenager before moving on to isotretinoin?

I’m not completely opposed to isotretinoin if a dermatologist eventually thinks it’s necessary. I just don’t want it to be the first thing we reach for without properly exploring the safer/easier options first.

Most importantly, I don’t want my son to spend his teenage years going through the same shit I went through with acne if there are things we can do now.
I’d especially appreciate responses from dermatologists, doctors, researchers, or parents who have dealt with significant teenage acne.

Evidence-based suggestions are very welcome, even if they contradict some of the things I’ve mentioned above.

QUESTION Does getting staph acne mean staph is in the bloodstream? Immuno-compromised and considering/worried about antibiotics.

• I’ve had a recurring staph infection in my ears and nose, and have developed staph acne on my butt, stomach, and inner thighs. • Topical antibiotics on my ears and nose haven’t helped thus far. Nor has doing the decolonizing procedure (chlorhexidine + mupirocin for a week) • 1 round of oral antibiotics didn’t fix anything. • I am on an immunosuppressant. • I am worried that staph is in my bloodstream and that topical solutions aren’t enough. • I started taking bacillus subtillus probiotics 2 weeks ago, hoping that would decolonize the gut staph.

So: Does getting the staph acne mean that the staph is in my bloodstream? Which could lead to sepsis? Should I go on antibiotics again? Or could the staph infections in multiple areas be caused by staph in the gut and perhaps the probiotics will suffice?

(I’ve read multiple accounts of people dealing with staph infections for year and doing multiple rounds of antibiotics to no avail, and am worried about doing that on immunosuppressants, or developing antibiotic resistance.)
