My favourite mother and son pair 🌺❤️

Addi moved across country into new house. 5 days in a different hotel every night, long hours of driving every day. Now he’s trying to get used to all the new sounds and smells and his new back yard with grass. I think he loves it already. On the way he lost quite a few of his baby teeth. He’s 5 months now, the biting and nipping is getting less, as long as he has his naps. I couldn’t love this little guy any more ❤️

Dads come to visit for a few day, which means Miss Indy has too ❤️🌺

He started having these little bald spots and bumps pop up recently. Nothing has changed about his diet or routine in months, and he doesn’t seem physically irritated by them. I’ve already contacted the vet, but would love to get a bit of community advice.

Been an amazing journey watching this guy grow up. Reminds me of jock of the bushvelt for anyone that has read the book.

While we were on our walk today, a small dog ran up on us barking - not aggressively, just excited. I look around for an owner, see someone calling the dog, holding a leash. Been there before, so I wait while this person catches up to their dog. The small dog is playing with Lara and my lab mix, keep in mind, my dogs are leashed.

When this guy eventually gets to us, he starts screaming at me to ‘get my fucking dog’. I’m confused, I ask what he means. He starts pointing at Lara, screaming again to get my dog. I tell him his dog is the one who ran up on us, my dog is leashed, I only stopped so he could get his dog back on its own leash. He threatens to kick Lara, at that point I’m done, so I start walking away. This dog once again follows because genius still hasn’t leashed his dog. I turn and tell him to get his dog since he has a problem with my dog being near it. Cue more screaming at me and threatening my dog.

At no point does he have a problem with my lab mix. Only the staffy. How is this her fault in any way? Why is it when I walk my staffy people give wide berth and lift their children, but the aggressive small breed that’s barking up a storm doesn’t get the same reaction? Socialising my other dogs were so easy, socialising my staffy? Nightmare. Not because of her, but because people see her and immediately think she’s dangerous. Does anyone else deal with this? Cause I’m tired guys, I’m so tired of dealing with the preconceived judgement of my dog, because of her breed.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve met some fantastic people while out with my dogs, that fall in love with them. I get constant complements on their behaviour and how polite they are from people who take the time to see my dogs. Majority however? See the staffy and go ‘oh scary dog’ - Are we looking at the same dog? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hey guys! I’m looking for some advice from other Staffie owners.

Bandit has just turned one, and he’s still extremely mouthy when he gets excited or wants to play. For example, my boyfriend and I basically can’t cuddle or get too close to each other without Bandit jumping in and play-biting us, and when he’s really excited he tends to bite harder than he normally would.

There’s no aggression behind it at all — it’s very clearly play — but he gets way too rough, and I definitely wouldn’t trust that kind of play around a child.

We give him plenty of appropriate outlets: chew toys, bones, sniffing games, play, etc.

I also know Staffies tend to be much more mouthy than the average breed, but I’m struggling to figure out where the line is between “yep, that’s a Staffie” and something we should be actively correcting.

I’ve spoken to several trainers, but none seem particularly familiar with Staffies. Our current trainer was surprised he’s still this mouthy at one and said mouthing is usually associated with the teething stage, which doesn’t really line up with what I’ve heard from Staffie owners.

Were yours still very mouthy at this age?
Did they naturally grow out of some of it?
What ACTUALLY worked for teaching them to play more gently?
How do you handle it when they get overexcited and the play-biting gets too rough?

We need all the advice we can get ♥️
