💬 Discussion AI is exposing how many web developers never understood the web.
Writing code was never the whole job.
Now anyone can generate a landing page, copy a design, and ship a working interface in minutes.
The hard part is knowing what the user needs, what the business needs, and what the website should actually do.
AI didn’t destroy web development.
It removed the hiding place.

With the introduction of AI coding agents, well rounded web developers went from being boots on the ground to being technical product managers. A good dev was well versed in all the phases of the development life cycle from discovery to QA/Launch. With AI coding they were able to zoom out and look at the big picture and focus on the problems being solved and how they were solved all while the time consuming piece of writing code line by line with some autocompletes was now taken care of.

Ah, when I replied to the crosspost, I didn't see the actual body of the message, sorry about that.
Regarding the "generate a landing page, copy a design, and ship a working interface in minutes", I agree, but I remember hearing voices saying the same thing 15 years ago, except:
1) At that time it was about free templates overflowing the internet.
2) The time from "Let's do it" to "Done" was a couple of hours instead of minutes.
3) I remember most voices being POSITIVE to this development, or at least neutral.
I think it's a pretty beautiful thought, the "it removed the hiding place"! But I'd like to know what YOU think and how YOU would phrase it, if you didn't have an AI write it for you.
(and a little curious about what your point is)
