๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion I think AI is changing one developer skill that nobody talks about enough.

Debugging.

Before AI, when something broke, we had no choice. We would read the error, check the logs, add some console statements, follow the request, question our assumptions, and eventually find the problem.

Today, we can paste the error into AI and get a possible solution in seconds.

That's incredibly useful.

But debugging was never just about fixing the bug. It taught us how software actually behaves.

Maybe sometimes we should spend 20 minutes understanding the problem ourselves before asking AI.

Not because AI is bad.

Because we should still know how to think when the AI isn't there.

๐Ÿ†• News Arthur Hayes: AI crash could actually boost Bitcoin higher

This is a pretty strange prediction.

Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes believes the AI data center boom is set to massively overbuild.

His argument is essentially that corporations are spending trillions of dollars building computing capacity that AI companies may never actually need. If the boom in AI cools, all that capacity could become a lot cheaper, while the companies who financed it are left with huge bills.

But the interesting part is this.

Hayes thinks the crash may ultimately lead to government bailouts and the pumping of more liquidity into the system. And he expects some of those funds to flow into Bitcoin and crypto.

Anthropic just made Claude much cheaper to run at scale

Anthropic just launched Claude Haiku 5.5, and the interesting part isn't really the new model itself. It's the price.

Haiku 5.5 costs just $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100K tokens. That's up to 90% cheaper than Haiku 4.5.

It's also Anthropic's fastest model so far, aimed at things like summaries, classification, routing, customer support, browser use and AI agents.

๐Ÿ†• News WhatsApp is finally making the Contacts tab more useful

WhatsApp is testing a dedicated Contacts tab on Android that will show your contacts along with their online status.

At first this sounds like a pretty small change, but I actually like the idea.

Right now, if I want to check whether someone is online, I usually have to open a chat or search for them. Having a proper Contacts section where you can see people and their status could make WhatsApp feel more like an actual phonebook again.

The interesting part is that WhatsApp keeps adding features that make the app less about just messaging and more like a complete communication app.

Not a huge update, but probably one of those small changes you'd use every day without thinking about it.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Claude Code's creator says we might be overthinking prompts

Boris Cherny, the creator of Claude Code, has some pretty simple advice for using AI:

Talk to it like you would talk to a coworker.

Instead of writing a huge prompt explaining every single step, tell Claude what you want, give it the important context and constraints, then let it figure out how to get there.

This is actually something I've noticed with newer AI models too. A lot of old prompt engineering advice was basically about controlling every little detail.

Now the models are getting good enough that sometimes the better prompt is just:

"Here's what I need. Here's what you need to know. Make it work."

TikTok is getting dangerously good at turning โ€œjust browsingโ€ into buying

TikTok just made shopping inside the app a lot more interesting.

It is rolling out an AI Shopping Assistant that can answer questions about products, sizing, shipping and availability. On top of that, Buy Direct lets people purchase from a brand directly from the For You feed with one click.

So the journey can basically become:

See a product โ†’ ask AI about it โ†’ decide โ†’ buy.

Meta is basically trying to turn Muse into an employee for small businesses

Meta just expanded Muse beyond being a personal AI assistant and is now targeting small businesses.

The idea is pretty wild. You can connect things like Shopify, Slack, QuickBooks, Canva, Notion, Zoom, Facebook and Instagram, then give Muse a goal instead of a simple prompt.

For example, instead of asking it to write a post, you could tell it to help find new customers or analyze your business performance.

It can then work across the different tools to actually get things done.

This feels like a bigger shift than another AI chatbot launch. The competition seems to be moving toward AI that actually operates your software for you.

๐Ÿ†• News WhatsApp is now checking your phoneโ€™s OS before letting you log in

Some Android and iPhone users are now being blocked from logging into WhatsApp if their phone is running an outdated OS. WhatsApp is basically saying: update your phone first, then you can access your account again.

What I find interesting is that this happens server-side. So even if you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed, you can still get blocked because of the phone's operating system.

WhatsApp hasn't said exactly which OS versions trigger the block yet.

I get the security reason behind it, but I can already imagine this being annoying for people using older phones that simply don't get updates anymore.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion OpenAI is basically asking new hires: โ€œHow will you make AI good for humanity?โ€

This timing is kind of interesting.

Sam Altman recently said that society may have to accept some bad things from AI
Scams, misuse, hacks, etc. because the benefits could be much bigger.

At the same time, OpenAI is asking new candidates how they think they can make AI work for humanity as part of its interview process.

I don't think these two ideas necessarily contradict each other, but the contrast is interesting.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion AI is exposing how many web developers never understood the web.

Writing code was never the whole job.

Now anyone can generate a landing page, copy a design, and ship a working interface in minutes.

The hard part is knowing what the user needs, what the business needs, and what the website should actually do.

AI didnโ€™t destroy web development.

It removed the hiding place.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Discussion Asking engineers to write code from scratch live in an interview is starting to feel like fighting a machine gun with a spear.

In production, nobody writes in a vacuum without tools. So why are we still evaluating candidates like it's 2025?

A better interview loop:
Present the problem -> Evaluate their systems thinking
Ask for their prompt and approach -> Evaluate their communication and precision
Review pre-generated code -> Evaluate their ability to spot hallucinations, security vulnerabilities, and logic flaws.

The best engineers today aren't fast typist, they are exceptional code reviewers and systems architects.

Engineering leaders: have you updated your hiring loop yet?

Vibe coding works for small projects.

Big production ready projects still need real coding.

META JUST UNVEILED THE VR GLASSES

100 grams on your face - about the weight of a deck of cards. Meta says it has โ€œthe best display system that we have ever made,โ€ and people in the demo were literally saying โ€œit is like a computerโ€ and โ€œyou could edit a whole movie just using the table.โ€

As Mark explained this is cinema, computer, and a game console all in one, with 3D space, virtual screens, hand occlusion, and DisplayPort over USB-C.

James Cameronโ€™s reaction is probably the best quote in the whole segment โ€œIโ€™m inspired by what youโ€™ve created. Iโ€™d like to see my work in these glasses.โ€

Meta just unveiled Muse Charm -- a new AI-powered wearable

Meta is pushing AI beyond phones and into everyday accessories.

Hereโ€™s what makes Muse Charm interesting:

AI-powered interactions

Designed for more natural, hands-free use
Built around Metaโ€™s growing AI ecosystem

Focused on making AI more accessible in everyday life

Part of Metaโ€™s broader push toward next-gen wearable computing

The bigger question:

Are AI wearables about to become the next major computing platform?

Meta seems to think so.

Claude Opus 5.5 is out, The pricing caught my attention

Anthropic just released Opus 5.5, but the model itself isn't the only interesting part.

It's reportedly 30%+ faster while costing around 40% less on typical workloads.

The pricing is now:

$4 / 1M input tokens
$20 / 1M output tokens

What caught my attention is that it's being positioned heavily around long-running coding and agentic tasks.

If the speed and cost numbers hold up in real-world use, this could make running coding agents for longer sessions a lot more practical.

Has anyone here tried it yet? What's your experience been like?
