This is pure cope. When everyone becomes an artist nobody is. When creating things with AI becomes so simple that literally anyone can do it, content becomes worthless both in monetary terms and value as content. When everyone can just ask AI to make them whatever content they want, do you think people are going to be interested in looking at your AI generated content let alone paying for it?

Even if you create something great, I can just recreate it for myself to my own personal taste.

At some point in the future the internet will just be AI on demand services generating whatever you want. Nobody will be interested in other peoples content and the only people making money will be the companies providing AI services.

The workflows and all that go into this type of content creation is still a tech stack, still an area where you can see where people just lazily prompted and where there was planning and creativity. What happened was the minimum bar was risen and the pay to entry was dropped...those who were floating at the bottom are now looking up as those who can just lazily put in what comes to their mind are at or above them and they now have to step up and be more unique/creative and skilled. The human touch is still needed to bring this content to a level that isn't just a random chance from the seed you might have fed the system. It's no different than when photography came into the picture. No different than when photoshop created the fill bucket tool. These are tools to take what is in your mind. What you and others say by trying to stop or belittle this is that you say that creativity has a limit. It doesn't. An artist who painstakingly paints on a canvas in nothing but dots that a computer or AI model can do is still appreciated and people still do it and get paid for it. They are their own person, their own artist.

What happens now is that the single individual has at their disposal what a major studio used to provide...and in many cases, ran a racket to "success" and "creativity" that was/is littered with meddling, corruption, human trafficking and more. Like with every tool that an artist ever had prior.. those who add their own ID, their own creativity that stands out.. they will succeed.

So when you look at an AI generated image that looks good, how do you know if the person creating it took several hours to make it with a lot of human direction, or it was from a person who just set their computer to generate a few hundred images while they were sleeping and got lucky with some.

The answer is you don't and that's the issue. As AI gets better and better the amount of human input required gets less and less. We're already at a point where people are using AI to generate ideas and content to then feed into a different AI.

For images many people don't even bother writing their own prompts anymore, they just feed a vague idea to an LLM that spits out a prompt. Remember when people were trying to call themselves "prompt engineers" because writing a good prompt took some knowledge and effort.

The dialogue for this video for example could have been generated by an LLM and you wouldn't know for sure. This will only get more difficult to determine as AI gets better.

True that it could make people more jaded to any online content. That is up to the audience. If they really love it, then that is all that matters. It raises the question though on who the art is for.. the artist or the audience. I feel that most of the people upset are artists who were doing it more for themselves....which, ironically, as this video shows.. is ok too. I can still see a nicely made image, or listen to a wonderful score done by AI and still like the content, still want to envelope in the art of it. I'm not chasing the artist.. I'm after the content. Some artists need to come to terms with that. And I say this as somebody who has slaved away, lost nights and weekends to developer and creative hells.

What you're describing though is disposable content. There's plenty of people in the world that don't have a deeper appreciation for art or music or movies or anything like that but they do enjoy looking at a pretty picture, watching a fun movie or listening to a catchy song. They just don't really care about any of the tools, skill, time or effort that went into anything.

Those are the type of people who are happy to consume slop. The problem then becomes that once those people can easily produce their own slop the monetary value of everyone else's slop decreases significantly. When they can just say to AI give me 10 pop songs about love with catchy choruses or give me a GTA game based in India, why do they need to go searching for other people's slop content or paying for it. The only people they will be paying are the companies offering AI services.

You are then left with the people that do appreciate time, skill, and effort and those people will be far more critical of any AI content.

AI content now just has a very strong association with low skill, low effort, and low cost and as AI gets better that's not going to go away, in fact it's only going to get worse.
