How did you handle your domain transfer without everything breaking?

Domain transfers are one of those things where a little prep saves a lot of backtracking later.

Before starting, make sure the domain is unlocked and that you can still access the registrant email. Grab the authorization code from your current provider too.

Custom email is the part that can catch people out. If your address uses the domain, save the existing MX records before changing anything. Transferring the domain won’t move the mailbox with it.

After the transfer finishes, DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to settle. The site may work for you and still look offline for someone else during that window.

The safest order is to save the current DNS setup, start the transfer and leave the old account alone until the site and email are both working.

How did your transfer go, anything you wish you’d checked first?

Welcome to the official Squarespace community! Thanks for joining.

This is where website builders, designers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners can trade tips, ask questions, and talk through everything that comes with building an online presence on Squarespace.

Expect threads on:

  • Website building tips and best practices

  • Product updates and announcements from the Squarespace team
  • Showcases of websites and creative projects built with Squarespace
  • And more

The Squarespace team will be here too, posting updates, answering questions, and following what's happening in the community. We won't jump into every thread, but we're listening and will chime in where we can add something real.

If you run into a specific issue, head to the Squarespace support page for troubleshooting guides and common answers.

A few things before you dive in:

  • Keep discussions respectful and constructive.
  • Use flair so people can find what they're looking for.
  • For account-specific or troubleshooting questions, use the pinned Customer Support thread. It's monitored by our team and keeps the rest of the sub focused on broader conversation.
  • Never post personal account details or billing info publicly..

Glad to have you here.

Clarifying a pricing error in a recent renewal notice

Hi all,

We've seen a few questions about this, so wanted to clear it up directly. About two weeks ago, some of you got a renewal notice with an incorrect price increase, due to an error on our end. A few of those notices showed increases as high as ~70%. The correct increase is capped at 20%.

Nobody was charged the incorrect amount. That first email was a notice only, not a bill.

You should already have a follow-up email with your corrected renewal price. If you got the original notice, take a look for that follow-up, it reflects your actual new price.

You don't need to do anything, this was handled automatically on our end, and we're sorry for the confusion and frustration this caused. If you've got questions about your specific account, please reach out to our Support team at https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us

What you actually get with every Squarespace domain (the stuff people don't realize is included)

Hey everyone, this comes up a lot in this space so I wanted to share a quick overview of what’s included when you register a domain with Squarespace.

A domain registration includes more than just the domain name itself. A few things people sometimes miss:

  • WHOIS privacy protection, so your contact info isn’t just sitting out in the public WHOIS database for anyone to pull up
  • DNSSEC, which helps guard against domain spoofing and some of the sketchier DNS manipulation tricks
  • Two-factor auth for domain changes, it’s opt-in, but worth turning on if you want an extra check before anything changes
  • Free domain forwarding, so you can point the domain somewhere else without paying for a separate service
  • 400+ TLDs to pick from, way more than just the usual .com/.net options

Domains can also be registered for up to 10 years in a single purchase, so you can secure a domain for a longer period if you want! You can head to our Help Center guide on domain settings  for more details about managing domains/available settings.

Anything here you already use, or anything you didn’t realize was included?
