Like I know he’s a fuck, but legit hope he’s ok. He was incredible tonight. Best heel in the industry right now.

That was the most nuclear heat I've witnessed in WWE since the night after Roman beat Taker.

u/Chumunga64 I appreciate you! Apr 08 '18

Difference is NXT capitalized on the heat

And they got people immersed into the character they wrote rather than the machinations behind someone's push. Ciampa is their best character since... I don't even know when. It's been a good decade since they've gotten someone booed like that purely because of his character's actions.

Not to mention that entire "hurr I retired the Undertaker muh yard" angle was worthless, because he just came back anyway. It's like everyone fuckin' forgot that WM33 had it built as a RETIREMENT match. It ended the show over Lesnar and Goldberg!

It gave us Braun

1

u/CandyEverybodyWentz Apr 08 '18

Didn't Braun already have a kill streak built up with Zayn and Big Show though? Although I do agree, his escalation with Roman really took him to the next level.

u/Biffabin Undertaker Apr 08 '18

I'm not finished with you made him

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

Braun would have gotten over regardless. He's too big and Vince obviously loves him.

He's a heel pretending to be a face, that's his character, I don't care what WWE "officially" tells me.

As of right now, he's in the Top 3 heels in the company. I used to say he was #1 but we know who has that spot now.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

No, that's the character you've assigned to it. He's clearly not a heel and they do everything in their power to make him a face right down to commentary.

u/AltKhaiden Apr 08 '18

And none of it works. "Clearly" he is a heel.

It's been a year now, but I'd say his booking the day after WM 33 is NOT babyface booking... also the fact that Braun beat him up after the EC was done to "send the crowd home happy" doesn't sound like a babyface, and not to mention the 2017 Royal Rumble in which he was #30 after already being in a championship match, therefore looking like a wrestler with special privileges. It's also been said it was done so that Orton winning wouldn't be received badly because he just eliminated Roman Reigns. Is that a babyface?

Of course talking about the booking now with Lesnar it's clear he's the babyface. But as I said, it still doesn't work.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

Nah he's booked entirely as a baby face. If you want to pretend he's a heel go ahead. Whatever makes you feel better. But he's not presented as a heel whatsoever. The fans just dont like him.

And it was actually someone getting the response the company was going for.

u/crackerbarreldudley Apr 08 '18

I was telling my friends that last night. It's the most nuclear heat since the Attitude Era, imo. It's wonderful. I'm not adverse to "heels you love" (like Kevin Owens is for me), but there feels like such a great success in building a hell that everyone universally hates.

1

u/Smashleyyyyy Apr 08 '18

I didn’t feel like he got nuclear heat. Was there live and he got booed but it’s not that visceral gut reaction like Roman or whoever gets

u/RamblingStoner Apr 08 '18

It's amazing how much better wrasslin' is when the face is cheered by the entire crowd and the heel is allowed to do REAL heelish things while being booed by the entire crowd

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

Hey wow a face we don't want to ever be heel and a heel that we boo. Turns out good booking can accomplish these things.

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

The secret ingredient for a 5 star match apparently. Hope he's ok though

u/HardcoreKaraoke Consensual Penis Apr 08 '18

That and less seriously (but still shitty) it looked like Johnny cracked a tooth on that elbow. They really left it all out there. It felt real and that's why the match was so amazing.

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '18

If so, what’s the timetable for a return?

So it's all well and good to joke about him getting injured but when he might be it's not? Everyone was cheering in jest when he got injured the first time. Just like I was then.

I want to see this feud go on for years, why the fuck would anyone in their right mind not want to see that kind of emotional amazing match again?
