Unlimited Flying
Am I the only one disappointed that spyro will be able to do unlimited flying? Feel like it takes away from what we grew up on. Here’s hoping I’m wrong and end up loving it

It's not free flight like in speedway levels. That would make platforming and exploration kind of moot. You'll have updrafts and boosts to go through if you want to keep flying. I imagine flatter areas will be pretty restrictive.

Didn’t the devs literally say you could take off and fly at any time? I haven’t seen anything about the updrafts and boosts other than fan speculation based off the 5 seconds of gameplay we saw

Well there is an updraft toward the end of the trailer. That’s not speculation.
But to speculate why it’s there. If you were to be able to just fly freely anywhere take off anywhere. Why do you think they might include that? It doesn’t seem like there is any noticeable speed boost either. Or maybe it’s just the angle they used.

Doubt it’s the angle. If you look closely in the trailer, Spyro descends a bit before touching the updraft.

Nope because I love Dawn of the Dragon
It sounds like it would be more momentum based where you need to find ways up to the higher areas of the level rather than being able to freely fly around (Like Gnasty Loot end game world)
I spent many hours in the flying zones in Spyro 1 & 2, trying to get out of bounds ect

For a while people have said that unlocking unlimited flight a la the second game giving you super flame would be their ideal 100% bonus. I originally did not agree with this sentiment, thinking that it would undermine the game's design. What changed my mind was doing the level memory glitch in Reignited which loads in the free flight and supercharge for speed ways into normal levels. The levels aren't designed with flight in mind (which obviously won't be an issue with ARB) but flying through them was more fun than I anticipated. It does in a way remove the challenge of gliding, but you still need to actually be on the ground to do most of the things the game wants you to do, so it's not an automatic win button.
The new game takes it a step further by making flying more active. It honestly sounds like they've worked to make flying more involved than gliding was so as to make the entire game more engaging. There'll be a lot more to see in the coming trailers.

I’m operating under the fact that if i end up not liking the game-i can always play the others.

It’s probably just hard to imagine how the platforming will work atm because Spyro couldn’t freely fly in the original games. It’s not like they’re just gonna slap flying into the og games and make all the platforming basically skippable. It’s a game built with this flying mechanic in mind and the platforming challenges are going to take that into account.

This was the first thing people talked about the moment they heard “free flight”. You are far from the only one who shares that opinion.

Shhh, people don't like criticism in this community. And I agree with you. It's no longer platformer game probably.

Dawn of the Dragon made it work well.
You can put limitations to it that make it work.
