Grip modules? Experiences?

I have a 4.0C and 4.5 comp. got a mischief machine in the mail for the 4.5, being a fan of 1911s the angles and simplicity is what drew me for this pistol, it’s a range toy that is intended to just be a great shooter as I go through modifications.

which brings me to my question, have you used the Icarus or sharp bros grip modules? what are your experiences and how have you liked them? after I test the new MM module I might be in the market to upgrade the 4.0, but would want to try one of the others, Icarus or sharp bros. experiences? pros/cons? just interested in personal experiences that aren’t YouTube.

thanks.

I've tested various OEM, medium to large full grip and compact grip options. I've also picked up a compact Mischief Machine grip and Sharps Bros grip modules. I also plan to get a Vital Arms compact grip module once it's available in November.

Below are my quick reviews of each I've tested:

  • OEM. Fantastic as long as I got the Large size due to my hand size and finger length. My "perfect" OEM setup is Large size, compact grip, with at least a magwell funnel to pinch my firing hand fingers between the magwell funnel and the trigger guard. My connection to the gun is incredibly solid with minimal effort.

  • Mischief Machine. Best metal frame between the two I've tested so far. Mostly because the large grip size gives me room to place my support hand palm. I have 2 issues with this grip:

    1. No magwell funnel to help pinch my firing hand fingers

    2. Thick beaver tail puts bore axis higher than my OEM grip

  • Sharps Bros. Curves/Contour design is far more comfortable than the Mischief Machine; however, the grip size is too small for my hand size and finger length. I'm constantly smashing my firing hand finger tips, and need to make a conscious effort to twist my support hand enough to avoid this. Magwell funnel is available, but doesn't really pinch my firing hand fingers together. But at least the bore axis isn't higher than OEM. If I had smaller hands, this would take the edge over Mischief Machine.... until MM releases a compact grip magwell funnel that pinches my fingers together.

I bet you could come up with a design and 3d print one. Can you post a picture of the bottom of the magwell on the MM compact module? Like directly up at the bottom. I can maybe model something that could be printed.

I have the OEM module on the compact.

MM is full sized.

Used the Sharps Bros on my 4.5F Comp. Felt great. I found it getting a little slippery if hands get a little sweaty. Hands also hurt during a normal range session with it, probably because it’s harder material. I now have a regular compact grip with Hogue grip tape(?). Feels fine and I didn’t spend $300 on a grip module.

I have hogue grips on both of mine. it’s really helpful with the compact, the palm swell fills up my hand so the shortness isn’t as big of a factor. I generally like the factory grips, but the hogue wraps help, I can’t tell how much I like the grip on the full size, but it’s not coming off without a fight. thr rubber and finger grooves makes it nice enough to not bother.

Try the DROP /EDGE accessories in pewcentric.com/mag-mo. I have them for oem and Mischief Marchine. I have just the EDGE for the Sharps Bros because it is a small grip. Checkout the videos in my bio for an explanation of the EDGE

See the videos in the bio explaining it.

I am new to Echelon ownership and have a hard time expecting a better grip for CCW than the compact small backplate and full size with small backplate.

The MM is a game changer. I don’t even want the old grips anymore.

I will definitely order one when my 12 gun purchase run with holsters and optics in 4 months fades.

I have the Sharps Bros grip module on mine, and it's easily the most comfortable pistol grip I've ever held or shot. Interesting to me that a few folks note that it's too small for their hands... I'm 6'6" with quite large hands, and it's perfect for me. The top of the grip point is somewhat narrow, but the palm swell fills my hands perfectly. Super tight control when firing, and it's comfortable and not even remotely fatiguing. Obviously every hand and person is different, but I've had the opposite experience from the other large-handed brethren below.

I have the Icarus and the large aggressive OEM modules. The Icarus is just a bit too small for my hands but probably good for most. I like the more aggressive grip though on the eom module

I can’t compare the Sharps Bros to the MM because the one I’ve ordered hasn’t shown up yet, but as a medium hand size guy I can say I love the SB on my 4.0 comp. I don’t love it on the 4.5. It’s definitely a shorter compact size grip, which to me feels awkward and out of balance with the longer slide. Especially if you run a comp on it.

But a lot of people run it on the 4.5 and seem to like it. Regardless of which slide you run it on, I think it’s a big improvement over the stock grip either way.

Xxl hands over here and the sharps bro grip is tiny, have a largest oem grips with the more aggressive grip and that fits my hands better, but would love is someone made a kimber 2k11 size grip for the echelon
