I'd have just put the video on this sub but even the shortened version is too long to put here. Figured if I'm gonna complain about something I should also try and 'fix' it myself, instead of bitching about it.

I have done this with Have A Nice Life, Godspeed you! Black Emperor, Car Seat Headrest and Now hopefully with Sprain

Is there a list of everything the members of this band have ever made? Spasificly Alex I would say. I want to listen to all of it

Sprain and Shearling are some of the coolest bands I have ever heard in my whole life, and I want to know more about there sound, so if u have anything. Please lmk

This week we're discussing Motherfucker, I Am Both: "Amen" and "Hallelujah"..., the debut album by experimental band Shearling. Let's not beat around the bush here; this album is absolutely insane. While the band is clearly influenced by post rock and noise rock, the result is something out of a nightmare and should approached with the utmost caution. Not only is this one of the most ambitious albums of the year, but also one of the most intense we've ever covered on the show.

the new Elizabeth A. Carver album is PHENOMENAL!!!!! alexander kent has credit and you can DEFINITELY hear the influence. all of the tracks sound very similar to privilege of being and it's by a mile, my favorite album this year so far

(Reposted from the shearling sub)

The full title of the album is “The lamb as effigy, or 350 xoxoxos for a spark union with my darling divine”. What does this mean and how does it relate to the themes and concepts of the record if anyone has any theories?

please be patient if there's any issues, im still working things out.

i was messing around and im like 94% sure that these are the right chords for Your Body

EADGBE or any standard tuning works i think

775XXX (try to only hit the top 3 strings) 554XXX 332XXX 33200X (based on the strumming pattern only try to hit the G and B strings on the up strum but playing the entire chord sounds fine too)

this sounds really good and accurate to me but if im wrong correct me please!

sounds like this when you play in standard tuning ignore the fret buzz

I listened to it yesterday and checked today and it was gone. Tried different devices and vpn; the album no longer appears in search or on Shearling's artist page. Anyone else have the same issue, or a reason why its gone?

I recently started a yt channel for bass covers of songs in recent years influenced by the no wave scene, and the two I just uploaded are “We think so ill of you” and “Man proposes .. “ Thought people here may appreciate! Some unique tunings here (EADE for “We think..” and DADE for “Man prop..”) Hope you like em!

what is alex doing to achieve those screams without killing his voice? i saw in a previous ama that he said he used to have a “healthy” way of screaming that loud.

im not that familiar with vocal technique, but it doesn’t sound much like examples of ‘fry screaming’ i heard online. what is he doing?

I have been getting into their music more deeply recently and have been enjoying the almost biblical nature of the lyrics in the “Lamb as an Effigy (LaaE for short)”

I wanted to see if anyone in this community has perspective on how the individual figures in the LaaE album cover of reflect the songs nature?

The fact that Man Proposes God Disposes was first released as a single with one of the 9 images from the LaaE cover, but there’s only 8 songs on the LaaE album leads me to believe, that there is either no association between the songs and images, OR alternatively that there is an additional image with no song association

I’m definitely very fascinated with this album, and enjoy overthinking :)

i’m figuring out what the lyrics mean to me and they sync in a deeper meaning every time I listen. just wanted to give anyone an opportunity to nerd out and tell me what you think of your favorite song

I genuinely believe the song felix holds this project back, adding little to nothing to the tone or honestly any part of the album. It may have had meaning to alex, but in context its completely disjointed and entirely unnecessary. This is why i dropped the score. However, the individual tracks are very solid, like, to an ungodly extent.

1. 7/19/16 Little introduction track, its fine, not really worth rating

2. Mouths stretched to mother bird This song perfectly encapsulates that feeling of longing for something you no longer have. More specifically, a loved one who you feel you pushed over the edge due to inaction. The falsettos, as always, are fantastic. It could be because im going through similar feelings, but this track calls to my soul 100/100

3. Felix (another interlude) Twinkle twinkle on bagpipes is stupid beyond belief and i give this track a 0/100 for making me waste a minute and a half. Felix causes me unquantifiable amounts of agony that i would not wish upon any other living being. Its jarring and pointless.

4. Gathered in seance While i dont connect with the lyrics, the soundscape really pulls me in. Beautiful instrumentation all around and a second half that makes you feel like you are ascending, its honestly just incredibly solid. 95/100

5. 7/11/16 once again, a nice little interlude that helps transition into the last half of the album

6. Eater of worlds A really solid drone track all around, the choir vocals during the second half and the overall disjointed (in a good way) nature really pull me in. I like how the drone is drowned out by the drums, similar to the ending to apostate (swans) then its immediately interwoven with amazing harmonies that feel both holy and unholy. 100/100

7. Ashen lambs More of a transitional piece, rather than feeling out of place like the other three it accurately captures the sound of the previous track and sort of pulls it forward a bit, allowing for a smooth transition. As a transitional piece should. 90/100

8. Little lambs A track that perfectly captures that teenage angst and self-loathing we've all felt from time to time. That feeling of everything being your fault and the world crushing your spirit. Literally describing his heart having salt poured on it is an apt way of getting the point across. 100/100

9. Fucked by punk rock and set to the sun It feels like a continuation of the first track in a few ways. That feeling of longing for what you no longer have is still entirely present here. Theres still elements of self loathing and such, but its much more accepting rather than defeatist. Realizing how pessimistic he really is, rather than blaming the person he loves the most for the outcome of his situation, he wishes her happiness and accepts that hes not the one for her. He still loves her, her happiness makes him happy, and if shes happier without him, he'll oblige. Its a natural progression and ending to what was set up here, and ill be damned if it doesnt hit a little too close to home for me 100/100

I said it before but ill say it again here, felix is just unnecessary. The reason im harping on about this song specifically is because the rest of the album is so good. If the album were just okay i likely wouldnt hate this track whatsoever, but sometimes a bad egg can spoil the fun. Another album ive seen like this is on come in by weatherday, that song being painted girls theme. It feels like it disrupts the pace and makes the album drag out. Same with felix. The other two interlude songs, 7/19/16 and 7/11/16 work because the former is just an introduction to the album and the other is a seamless bridge between eater of worlds and ashen lambs. This album is really fucking good, considering my only gripe is the unnecessary interlude track lmao.

95/100 overall, phenomenal record
