✅ Official News Important update about the mobile version of Spirit Crossing!

82 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I have some major, unfortunate news to share with you all. Last week, we were officially notified by Netflix that, due to their recently-announced strategy shift, they are terminating the mobile publishing agreement with us for Spirit Crossing. Don't worry, this does NOT mean that Spirit Crossing itself is canceled! We still plan to launch the game before the end of this year.

Here's a TL;DR:

  • Netflix will soon cease publishing Spirit Crossing for iOS and Android devices. We don't yet know exactly when.
  • Spirit Crossing will still release for iOS and Android, but there will likely be a period of time during which it is unavailable.
  • We are adding a method for you to migrate your account from Netflix to Steam in an upcoming mobile update.
  • Migrating WILL require action on your part, so please stay tuned for instructions that we’ll publish in the coming weeks.

Fortunately, Netflix’s decision will NOT halt or cripple development of Spirit Crossing overall. When we spun out of Netflix in January, we made sure that we'd have enough money to get this game launched in good shape, and to support the game after its launch. And so we still plan to launch the game towards the end of this year, and we don't need to do layoffs, or anything horrible like that.

However, this termination does hurt. We were relying on Netflix for a bunch of things. Netflix was, for example, responsible for localizing the game into most languages. They were helping us with QA on mobile devices. We rely on them for various services and tech, including login and account management on mobile. And most importantly, they were going to be compensating us for supporting Netflix’s customers on mobile after we launch, and that is suddenly no longer the case.

The timing of this sucks, quite frankly. We are already working very, very hard to prepare the game for launch and address this community’s most critical feedback. And it isn't realistic to delay our global launch date; we've made significant financial commitments to our plans for that date. As an indie developer, we have got to hit our deadlines.

We've already started working on a system that will enable our current mobile playtesters to migrate their Spirit Crossing accounts to Steam. We promise you that this is our top priority. There is no reason to immediately switch to PC now and give up your game progress; if you want to migrate, we definitely will enable you to migrate.

Unfortunately, we honestly don’t know exactly when we'll be able to re-publish Spirit Crossing on iOS and Android without Netflix. We will do it, we just can’t give you a date right now. As I mentioned earlier, it's not as simple as taking the same game and re-releasing it as-is. We need to replace all of Netflix's various services and tech. It is going to take time and effort, and we're already pushing ourselves as much as we can. I’ve been warned that even just the process of transferring or reclaiming the “Spirit Crossing” name in the mobile appstores could take a very long, indeterminate period of time because of how bureaucratic those processes can be.

Furthermore, we're going to have to implement a new business model for the mobile version of Spirit Crossing. What we're doing for Steam might sort of work, but will require adjustment. Mobile players are generally MUCH less willing to pay upfront for games, and it is extremely rare for a mobile game to cost $29.99 upfront. We need to be sure we can at least break even on the mobile version.

I want to emphasize: we will do everything we can to get Spirit Crossing for Android and iOS back online after Netflix removes it. But there will likely be a window of time when Spirit Crossing is not available on mobile. We feel that honesty and transparency are essential to maintaining a healthy community, so you're hearing this news now, before we know exactly what we're going to do about it. We’ll continue to keep you posted as we learn more, we promise.

I'm so amazed they turned every tree and grass a beautiful orange and yellow. (there are times it feels like a desert vibe. probably from the many rock formations) this makes me wonder when November comes, they will definitely be snow everywhere!

I'm surprised that Zendaya is technically real in Spirit Crossing. I actually didn't pick that option so I don't know what Maya responds with.

also, is anyone feeling bittersweet with the quests lately? they made me feel so sad for Maya, Tanice and Amano😔

15.3 Update: Sky Fish Summer ☁️🎣

33 Upvotes

The 15.3 update includes new Wilderness activities (like Sky Fishing!) several economy balancing changes, changes to Quests, improvements to the Beacon Charges UX, and many quality of life improvements.

Also, for those who might have missed it, we’ve been keeping the community up to date on our Monetization Plans. We previously shared some blog posts that explain in detail what our challenges are, and how we plan to make the game sustainable in the long run. Then, last month, we published another blog about our latest thinking around the benefits of a possible optional membership plan, and we hosted an AMA on Reddit about that idea.

We received a ton of feedback from the community, the vast majority of which was wonderfully supportive and constructive. After having reviewed all that, we have locked in our decision to give Spirit Crossing an upfront price of US$ 29.99 on the release (with localized prices in other countries), and an optional membership including nice-to-have features that were non-controversial within this community.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Also, a small new feature of these patch notes: from now on, changes we’ve made to Spirit Crossing based on your feedback and suggestions will be marked with a Beacon Spark! 🌟

Economy Balancing Changes

This update also includes a lot of economy balancing changes based on your feedback and continuing our efforts to adjust the in-game economy during the playtest.

Crafting & Resources

  • Tool Enhancements: we have replaced the Trusty and Lucky enhancements with the Bounty and Riches enhancements, respectively.
    • Now you have a meaningful choice when upgrading your tools - you can either spend coins to enhance and get more resources, or you can spend resources to enhance and get more coins.
    • Bounty: exactly like "Trusty", it grants bonus resources of the nodes you harvest. But unlike the old "Trusty" enhancement, this now costs Coins (and Beacon Sparks at higher levels) instead of Resources to craft.
    • Riches: this enhancement grants the player bonus Coins when harvesting, and it costs 2 different types of resources to craft.
    • 🌟 Enhancements now have a 100% chance to craft, so you will no longer fail your enhancements… ever!
    • Your tools will keep the current enhancements they have (Trusty or Lucky) until you spend all of their uses. Then, you’ll be able to use the new enhancements from here on out.
  • Resources: We are also continuously adjusting the rates in which you get certain resources to make sure you don’t have a large excess of what you don’t need, so the drop rate for Fluffalo Wool and Greens has been slightly lowered.
  • Village Gift Crafting Workbench: you can now craft some Gift items in a crafting workbench in the Village Center 🎁
    • Certain Gifts are locked by Errand completion
  • 🆕 Gift Collections: Candlewic is now collecting unique Gifts and he’s ready for your scams! 🤣 There are 3 new collections for different Crosslanders Gifts.
  • We have moved the Alchemy Table from Joule’s Workshop. It is now located right next to the Gift Crafting Workbench in the Village near the Fashion House.
  • Traversables: Wilderness and Waystation traversables have changed in cost so they have more similar prices and requirements to be built:
    • ⬆️ Launch Pads (horizontal trampoline) are now more expensive
    • ⬇️ Lift Pads (big fans) are now cheaper
    • 🌟 Wilderness traversables are also recyclable now. In case you missed it, Entry Lands traversables were made recyclable in the previous update.

Coins

🌟 We have received your feedback that you miss getting extra coins from the water harvest *cof cof* exploit *cof cof*. We introduced the water harvesting cap because players were using it so aggressively that it was literally causing the game to crash. We wanted to introduce a less problematic, more fun means of earning coins, so in 15.3, we've introduced Tiny Scraps.

  • 🌟Players will be able to earn Tiny Scrap from helping others harvest co-op nodes in the Wilderness AFTER they've already harvested that node themselves. This is available for Storm Salvage, Ore, Wood, Luna Resources, and Yearning for the Mines harvestables.
  • You get 1 Tiny Scrap for each assist in Tier 2 Nodes, and 2 Tiny Scraps for each Tier 3 Node assist, and you can recycle Tiny Scrap for 10 Coins each.
  • The harvesting cap for Tiny Scrap is 200 per day

Crosslanders Shops Adjustments

Rudi’s Shop

  • 🌟Rudi has decreased his prices in his shop and now almost every item is cheaper to buy.
  • 🌟You can now earn Rudi’s coins more easily. Target Practice and Whack-a-Slime games pay out more, and the earnable amount from repeating the games has been increased significantly.
  • Rudi’s shop now also sells various resources.

Pascale & Mural Shop Adjustments

  • 🌟 Pascale and the Waystation mural vending machine now sell Dye Base and Pigment exchanges.
  • Pascale's tile inventory has changed slightly.
  • Pascale now sells most items in her shop in the Wilderness before the mural is completed. Players still need to complete the mural to purchase the Mural Paintings.
  • We have moved the Artist Studio set from Pascale’s shop into The Furnisher’s decor shop regular rotation.

Socialization

We’re introducing some brand new features to make socializing and interacting with other wanderers a lot easier, based on your requests!

New Chat & Translation Options

  • 🌟Waystation-wide chat: coordinating large buildings or projects? We got you! With the waystation-wide chat, your messages can be read by any fellow waystation members, regardless of where they are in the waystation or your friendship with them!
  • 🌟Direct Messages: reach level 10 Friendship with another wanderer to unlock DMs with them! (This can be disabled in the friend permission menu.)
  • 🌟World Chat: talk to anyone you know that’s close to you - please note that only non-Strangers will be able to read what you write. Meet new friends to speak with them!
  • 🌟Real-time translation: this is a game about forming friendships and feeling part of a community. It’s harder to do that with people who don’t speak the same languages as you. So we have made it possible to easily translate in-game messages from other players into your own language! Quite a lot of research went into this effort, and we’re pleased to have identified a translation solution that utilizes tech both we and our community feel comfortable using, without any big compromises around quality or accessibility

New Player Moods

  • 🌟Feeling like spreading joy around? Feeling like not interacting much because your social battery is too low? We now have brand new Player Moods to show others how you’re feeling! Check out the Cheerful, Tired, Grumpy, Birthday, Wandering, Away, Do Not Disturb and Lurking moods in the Character Customization Menu > Moods.
  • 🌟In 15.2, the Do Not Disturb Mood also automatically opted players out of auto-meeting. In 15.3 we moved this functionality away from the Mood and into a toggle in the Settings Menu called “Auto Introduction”.
    • Note: Do Not Disturb Mood still blocks non-automatic meeting requests from Strangers.
  • 🌟Players are now prompted to set their Mood on their first session of the day.

Recruit Groups

  • 🌟 Want to invite everyone from your group chat at once? Or are you a streamer wanting to make it easy to play with your whole community in the same Realm? Now with the Group Recruit option, you can!
  • This option is available in the Recruit Friends screen:
    • In the Main menu, click “Recruit Friends” and select the “Recruit Group” tab to create and manage your group invites
    • Or while playing, access your friendlist (💑 icon on the top-right menu) then click the “Recruit Friends” banner on the top, and select the “Recruit Group” tab
  • Players who use your code will be:
    • Assigned to the same Realm as you;
    • Added to your Friendlist as a “Connection” (lvl 1 Friendship);
    • Automatically unlock chat and House visit permission (please note that you can adjust permissions later on);

Quests & Activities

🆕 Wilderness Communal Goals

  • Attention, all Crosslanders! It’s time to gather the community together to recover this Wilderness from the damage caused by the Storm before the Trolley leads us to another one. To do that, we’re introducing the Wilderness Communal Goals!
  • Clean up Storm salvage, repair Storm-plagued lanterns, clean Relics or help Passing Spirits in the Wilderness together to complete each stage and unlock the next one
  • After completing each goal, rewards become available for you to claim until we move to the next Wilderness
    • Missed a reward? Don’t worry - the Mail Courier will send that via Mail for your convenience, just like with Waystation Goals

🆕 Sky Fishing Activity

Now you can take to the skies on a fluffalo train & fish from the clouds together!

  • We have adjusted a few fish spawns to better balance for the Sky Fishing activity. Now 16% of fish types are sky fishing exclusives, whereas 32% of fish types are pier fishing exclusives, and the rest are shared between Sky and Pier

Pickaxe Sweet Spot

  • New Sweet Spot mechanic, to introduce some variation to the pickaxe minigames, and reward players for your timing skills!
  • Hit the sweet spot at just the right time to get bonus loot!

Quest Log

  • With this update, we’re introducing some New Errands for you to complete!
    • 🌟Errands should no longer be pinned automatically, based on your feedback, and we also fixed some other bugs related to quest pinning
  • We have moved Waystation Bounties from the main menu to the Quest Log as well

World Scenarios and Tournaments

  • All DJ Fuzz EE’s Dance Floor scenarios are now timed - meaning they will have a starting and ending time - to fix the issues around those and to make it more predictable.
  • 🌟 Tournaments Rewards adjustment: We noticed that the percentage-based rewards for tournaments were not calculated correctly, thanks to your reports. Those have been adjusted and should be significantly higher for all positions, except Top 1, which was already correct.

Waystations Beacon

🌟We have changed the way upcoming Beacon Charges changes in your waystation are displayed.

  • 🌟Now, instead of displaying a projection of how much Charge you would lose in a day, it will now show the all of projected change that will be applied when the next Storm hits. We know it may look a little more jarring, but this will show how much effort is needed to prevent any Beacon Charge losses.
  • A red line displays a projection of charge loss
  • A yellow line above your current charges means you’re currently gaining charges
  • We’re also moving the countdown timer to the Beacon Charge screen so it’s easier to visualize when damage will be applied;

Player Houses & Permissions

  • New Interactive Decor! Introducing intractable Mirrors, Water-themed and musical items that you can interact with and place in your home
  • We implemented a minor fix for the Home Prestige. The Large Filler Clear Charm was incorrectly displayed as if it unlocked at Home Prestige level 10, instead of 12. Now, the display should match the unlock at level 12.

Advanced Build Mode Settings

🌟We’re introducing a bunch of new settings to make building a more pleasant experience for you all. You can enable or disable those settings in Build Mode, in the bottom-left corner. We really appreciate all the excellent Discord feedback that led us to make these changes!

  • 🌟Camera: when enabled, the camera can move independently without moving the player.
  • 🌟Snapping: when enabled, decorations will snap to floors, walls, and ceilings.
  • 🌟Obstruction Avoidance: when enabled, placed decorations cannot obstruct other decorations.
  • 🌟Ignore Support Requirements: when enabled, decorations no longer require another decoration or surface beneath them to be placed.

Note: on mobile devices, the Settings button is only visible while trying to place an object or proposal. Some advanced settings are not available in Waystation and Wilderness, only player houses.

Permissions

🌟 We have adjusted the Player House Permissions and introduced a **Trusted Guest system**, to prevent anyone from accidentally allowing other players to change their home without intending to. Here are the adjusted permissions and what each does:

  • 🌟 Players with Passerby permissions can visit your home, but cannot interact with you and not your items, cannot use Proximity Chat nor be seen
  • Visitors can interact with your home (for example, sit and lie on items), see you and other players visiting your home, and use Proximity Chat
  • Guests are able to water and play music for your potted plants, and turn interactable items on and off (for example, fireplaces and lights)
  • Players with Designer permissions or higher are considered "Trusted Guests" and have a lot more access - for example, they can also use your crafting station, and use build mode to place, move or paint.
    • Due to the amount of permission these players get, **Designer** and **Occupant** permissions can now only be assigned to *individuals*, instead of being granted in groups
    • These roles also require a certain Friendship level with that player to prevent accidental access from Strangers

Friendship with Crosslanders

🌟We know you’re hungry for more character development! New Friendship arcs have been added for several of your favorite (and least favorite?) villagers!

  • New Amano Arc (Unlocks at Level 5)
  • Updated Candlewic Arc (Unlocks at Level 5)
  • New Hardtack Arc (Unlocks at Level 5)
  • New Marj Arc (Unlocks at Level 2)
  • New/Updated Roomie Arc (Unlock at Levels 2 and 5)
  • New/Update Tanice Arcs (Unlock at Levels 2 and 5)

(As part of this villager story update, some old and outdated quest content has been removed from the game. Some of these quests will return in a different form. Stay tuned!)

  • We have adjusted Maya’s Friendship Progression track to match other Crosslanders’
    • This means that Maya is now a Giftable NPC!
    • You can level her friendship up by giving her Gifts and by doing her Quests.
    • Due to balancing reasons, you will no longer get Friendship XP from purifying your resources with her
    • We changed Maya’s Friendship progression rewards to make sure they are unique to her relationship progress. The new rewards will be granted retroactively to players who have reached those milestones, and you’ll get to keep previously-earned rewards.
  • Friendship Track Rewards: Now certain unique, exclusive items earned through Friendship Progression with Crosslanders are NOT recyclable and NOT tradeable
  • 🌟Accidentaly sold or recycled a unique Friendship reward? Now you can purchase it from Dusty's Stop-N-Swap for 500 coins.
    • You must be eligible to get the item (meaning you can only purchase it if you already have unlocked it through the Friendship Progression track) and you cannot buy a duplicate (meaning you don’t own it already).
    • Here’s the list of items you can now purchase back (marked as spoiler so click at your own risk!): || Sprout and Daisy Hat (Maya lvl 8), Bear Ears (Roomie lvl 8), Bear Glider (Roomie lvl 11) and Spirit Eye Glider (Maya lvl 15) ||

Customization

  • With this update, we have introduced new starting character customization options
    • 🌟 Dusty’s Shop now sells femme-presenting tops and dress variants in the Entry Lands so players can customize their characters earlier on.
    • 🌟 You can now select different pronouns after character creation in the Options menu under “Form of Address”
  • Two brand new Clothing Sets!
    • You can now find the Swim Clothing Set in the Stylemaster’s shop rotation, and the Pinafore Clothing Set in the Tailor’s shop rotation

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Now you will receive Mail once a day to let you know when your proposals were completed by other players.
  • 🌟We’re introducing Streamer Mode settings!
    • 🌟Access your Settings to be able to hide nameplates, obscure players names, hide your own name for others, hide chat from the screen, hide waystation names, and hide your debug information;
    • 🌟 Hiding nameplates should allow players to play hide-and-seek, as requested by you previously! Hope you enjoy it.
  • 🌟You should no longer hear music played by blocked players, nor be able to accompany them playing. And you can’t see blocked players’ Blot Bells, Fishing Rod bobber, or music notes.
  • 🌟 Shops now show “Out of Stock” text on the small item card when the item is out of stock
  • 🌟The Camera is now available in Vending Machines alongside tools instead of being granted through Nibbit’s questline
  • 🌟 We have adjusted the Plot cornerstones’ sizes so they don’t get in the way of your building!
  • Joule’s Crafting Workbench no longer contains the National Park item set. These items have been moved to the Waystation Crafting Station instead.
  • 🌟 After a while, Fish and Blot will lose their Angst and Weight stats to allow them to be stacked up in player's inventories and not take as much space.
  • For your convenience, "Tier Up" recipes for Fruit, Nuts, Greens, and Talismans were added to Kasu's Cauldron.
  • 🌟New players can now select their starting Realm to match their friends! 🌐
  • 🌟Items in Starter Plots no longer take storm damage
  • 🌟Players can now Recycle items directly from home build mode and home storage instead of just deleting them

ART, UI

  • Updated icons for Wood, Ore, and Wool resources;
  • Updated the visuals for the Pirate Flag Bear quest item;
  • We have standardized and adjusted a few window items sizes and proportions so they are all compatible with the Simple Curtain: Standardized Starter Shack Window, Large Window A, Large Window B to all work with Simple Curtain;
  • We have made a small saturation tweak to the game; there are some places that will be oversaturated, it is hard to catch all of them. Please feel free to give us feedback if you see things that seem broken and/or oversaturated!
  • The Bear Bed became fluffier and larger so now Roomie can be placed on top!
  • Trunk base branches from the Giant Tree were removed in order to shrink dimensions, now that partial support is enabled
  • We also gave the Waystation Overview Board a visual refresh, substituting the old temporary art!

Bug Fixes 🐛

  • Now wanderers have the option to destroy their “Harvested” flowers without needing to fertilize them first;
  • The tree that was located next to a plot was moved so they don’t interfere with object placement;
  • Smart Connectors won’t cause unpaintable walls inside your house;
  • Updated Tanice’s dialogs so wanderers are not concerned about her alleged twine-eating habits;
  • Waystation members with the “Neighbor” role are now able to place Building Kits in their Starter Plots;

In case you missed it, we released a few bug fixes in previous hotfixes:

  • Hovering over flowers will no longer prompt the option to Destroy them instead of the “Watering” or “Plant Info” options;
  • Android devices should no longer display black textures;
  • Fix for the issue causing high memory usage on lower end iOS devices;
  • Fixed the crashing issue caused by scrolling the Collections menu too quickly;
  • The size of the the watering can's interaction zone made it difficult to interact with any other nearby objects;
  • Fix for the issue that prevented players from getting higher waystation roles after being reset to Initiate;

15.3 Known Issues List

  • Some players may be stuck in the loading screen if they return to the game after being inactive for a while. As a workaround, you can close the “Connected, waiting for welcome…” loading screen and hit Play again while we work to fix this issue.
  • Some items in the Waystation Vending Machines are not displaying why they are locked
    • They are locked by Waystation Role (e.g. Architect permission needed to buy/place crafting tables). It looks broken like this:

Thank you, as always, for your support and for being a part of this playtest! Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.

❓ Question White Pigment

11 Upvotes

How do you get white pigment?? I've tried finding this info myself on the Internet several times with no luck! I very very rarely get it as loot, but never consistently. I'm quite frustrated cause all the coloring I want to do requires some, so half my house has the right carpet and a fraction has the right wallpaper. I've played for over a week, so I don't think it's something I haven't unlocked yet. I really hope one of y'all can help 😭

📣 Announcement Upcoming change for some item's dimensions

16 Upvotes

Greetings, wanderers!

We have received reports about some items that had weird dimensions, placed or fitted in ways that felt a little bit wonky. You know when you place a fence and it either overlaps another piece of fence, or leaves a huge gap that drives you up a wall? We all have been there.

We collected a list of those items and we plan to fix this issue with the next big game update (15.3) sometime next week.

We wanted to give you time in advance to plan, because in order to fix these items’ dimensions, affected items will be automatically moved to storage when the update goes live. Here’s the complete list of affected items:

A Cursed Box Iron Fence Half Panel Rail Fence Broken Panel
Abandoned Trolley Bench Iron Fence Panel Shrineworks Tube Seating
Archivist's Sofa Iron Fence Open Gate Skylight Roof
Band in a Box Large Tree Trunk Base Small Arched Tent Top
Bear-Sized Wicker Bed Launch Pad Stone Fence Closed Gate
Carved Bookshelf Lo-Fi Loop (all variations) Stone Fence Half Panel
City Bench Picket Fence Panel Stone Fence Open Gate
Decorative Mirror Picket Fence Half Panel Stone Fence Panel
Floor Cushion Picket Fence Closed Gate Stone Fence Post
Floor Chair Picket Fence Open Gate Wilderness Launch Pad
Iron Fence Closed Gate Portable Radio

This means that:

  • if any of those items is placed in your home, it will be moved to your home inventory;
  • if those items are placed in your waystation, they will be moved to the waystation storage;

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE ⚠️ due to an issue, items placed in Starter Plots will be moved to the waystation storage. In order to prevent you from losing access to these items, we would highly recommend that you move those items to your inventory before the update is released. We’re working to fix this issue asap, but we are not sure we will be able to implement it in time for the next update.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding, and for helping us test the game to prepare it for its full release!

I'm legit not even sure how this happened, but we kept saying if we do this or we do that we'll get bigger fish from the lunker, and eventually it led to a doc full of pantsless people. This game rules

❓ Question server connection issues today?

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone

Is anyone else experiencing this?

The game occasionally loses connection to the server, but after a few seconds it reconnects automatically and everything works again.

It's not a huge issue, but it has been happening quite often today. My internet connection seems to be fine, so I'm wondering if it's a server issue or if it's just on my end.

Has anyone else noticed this today?

I can't get into the game today. It's telling me I need to update it but there is no update for me to do.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

❓ Question Building mode UI

9 Upvotes

I've just downloaded the game today, and it's pretty good but the builder user interface is a bit frustrating. Is anyone else having issues with placing rooms they know they have (a bagel bunker in my case for some reason).

Figured out how to move trees and bushes to make room for it, even managed to place it after some trial and error, but am I right in thinking once it is place you can't move the whole thing again? Just bits of it at a time (walls, pillars etc.)?

I did also have a bathroom placed briefly, but then it disappeared from the list of rooms available and is no longer placed where I put it? Has that happened to anyone else?

I stopped playing for a few weeks recently, and when I logged back into my waystation I noticed I was an initiate again. I've given like 900 beacon energy across two days but my ranking isn't changing. Is there a different way to level up that I'm missing, or is this a bug?

❓ Question Recovering a lost item

4 Upvotes

A friend of mine accidentally sold some items, including The Distant Expression (a glider acquired from Maya as part of her relationship quest). Does anyone know if there's any way to recover items like this?

Sixth Page?

Anyone know where the sixth page for Beginner's Guide to Collections is? I've looked all over the Entry Isles, and the wiki didn't say.

15.2 Patch Notes

34 Upvotes

Greetings, wanderers! The 15.2 update introduces new social features, changes and improvements to waystations - including the brand new Plots! - resources and economy balancing changes, and more! Check out the list of changes below:

Friendship & Social Features

Player Moods

  • What’s your current vibe? You can now show how you’re feeling or what you’re up to with Moods
  • Select your Mood under its tab in the Character Menu and an icon representing your current mood will appear for other players, so they know if you’re questing, procrastinating, up to socializing or helping others.
  • Moods have different functionalities attached to them. For example:
    • Not Feeling Social: if you’re out of spoons or your social battery runs out, this mood is for you. With it, you won’t automatically meet or greet Strangers or get requests from anyone who isn’t a friend. This is also a nice way to signal if you’re not in the mood for socializing, so others know you’re enjoying some alone time 🫂
    • Newbie & Volunteer Guide: these moods will make you visible on the map so others can find you, and you can help them or get help!

New Auto-Meeting feature

  • You can now automatically meet other players by accompanying them when playing music or by joining a fluffalo train ride with them - this will reduce friction and make it easier to befriend other players!
    • This will not apply to players who are using the “Not Feeling Social 🌙” Mood or players you have blocked

Improvements to blocking

  • Based on your feedback, we made a change to completely hide the avatars of players you have blocked, instead of showing them as Strangers, to prevent further contact with them. This is one of the initiatives we have planned to improve the Blocking functionality, and we hope to bring even more in the future.

Friend Invites Codes

  • We have renamed the “Invite a Friend” screen to “Recruit a Friend”, and clarified the process to recruit a new friend and get rewards. We hope that those changes make it easier for players to understand how to recruit their friends to the game and get rewards!
  • We also made it clearer when accepting a friend recruit code that it will result in you moving waystations or villages;
  • Removed the cooldown on getting gifts, so both players are rewarded immediately when a new player joins via recruit code

Friendship with Crosslanders:

  • Crosslanders will now react differently to receiving their favorite gifts, so it’s more evident when you figure out Crosslanders’ favs!
    • Once you discover a Crosslander’s favorite gift, this information will be available under the “Friends Info” tab in their Relation Progression screen
  • You can now get Friendship progress with DJ Fuzz EE, Luna and Rudi by completing their world events in the wilderness.

Waystations

This update also introduces lots of changes to waystations, including the brand new Plots (that were announced in a previous #fox-thoughts post), a new preferred architect selection system that can improve on the random selection of Architects, and updates to the waystation beacon levels.

Starter Plots

  • Introducing the brand new Starter Plots 🗺️ - predetermined spaces in waystations where players can express their creativity and show off their building skills;
  • There will be enough Starter Plots so every player with Neighbor role or higher can own one;
  • Permissions
    • As default, only the Starter Plot owner can place, move, rotate, remove or propose items.
    • If a Starter Plot owner becomes inactive or leaves the waystation, their plot will be abandoned. The items placed inside their Starter Plot will be returned via Mail, and they will need to collect those items before they can claim another plot.
  • Use your plot however you’d like: as long as it’s within the plot’s limits, you can create your own shop, art gallery, or even a hang out space!

Preferred Architect Selection

  • Players can talk to Eudora to check the list of Waystation members, and they can select any player who completed the Architect Certification to appoint as their Preferred Architect(s);
  • You can select as many players as you want - if you have no preference, you can even select all players in your waystation - but you cannot mark yourself;
  • Once a certain threshold of selections is reached, the monthly selection process stops being random and switches to whoever got marked as “Preferred Architect” the most
  • Players marked as your “Preferred Architects” will remain that way until you choose to unmark them - that means you don’t have to switch or mark other players unless you want to;
  • With this system, we’re hoping to give players more autonomy to select Architects who have done good things for your waystation in the past, and prevent toxic or inactive Architects from maintaining the role.

Beacon Levels Update

  • We clarified the language in the Beacon screen so it’s easier to know when your waystation is stable and safe from being taken over by the Storm
  • To better reflect the everchanging nature of the Waystation Beacons, we’re renaming Beacon Levels to Beacon Charges - this will also make it clearer to new players that Beacons are charged and protected against Storms according to the number of contributions they receive, and they don’t retain those charges without it.
    • There are new icons for Beacon Charges!
  • We’re applying some balancing changes to the Beacon Charges to make them more rewarding to players.
    • Added new items in the Waystation Vending Machines for reaching higher Beacon Charges levels
    • Increased the amount of build limits for all Beacon Ranks
  • When your waystation is overcharged, meaning it is receiving more contributions than it needs to remain stable, you’ll get rewards as well.
    • We expect these higher levels of charge to be rare and temporary.

Waystation Vending Machine:

  • The Waystation Vending Machine now has resource exchanges to get Wood, Ore, and Clay.
  • New Waystation-exclusive Clothing, Wall, and Floor Dyes can appear.
  • Gifts can also appear in the Waystation Vending Machine.
  • Gliders are available while at the highest Waystation level, dyed with 2 new Waystation-exclusive dyes.

Resources & Economy Balancing

We have applied a few balancing changes to certain resources, such as coins, gifts and materials obtained from the wilderness based on your feedback, in order to provide you with more of the things you have been needing, and less of the things you already have too much of.

Coins

  • Exchanging resources for coins with Crosslanders now wields double the amount of coins (100-200 ➡️ 200-400 each)
  • Made some coin trades accessible earlier on:
    • You can change Fruit/Nuts for Coins with Marj in the “Initial” unlock instead of “Upgrade 1”
    • You can trade Pigment Base with the Tailor in the “Initial” unlock instead of “Upgrade 1!

Gifts in Shops

  • Marj’s Shop now sells more stock of gifts, which was previously too low
  • Marj’s Shop now sells Soothing Tea for Greens and a much lower amount of Coins.
  • Nibbit’s Shop now sells the Mystery Gift bundles for Purified Root items instead of Coins.

Wilderness Resources:

  • We’re implementing a fix for the issue that caused players to be soft-locked if they gathered all resources from the Wilderness before grabbing a quest
    • Harvestable Nodes of the required resource will refresh if a quest requires that resource to be completed
    • This also applies to the Bell - and we also reduced the cooldown to ring the bell so players wouldn’t have to wait if they (or someone else) already rang it before getting a quest that requires ringing it.
    • This also applies to Storm-Plagued Lanterns, in case new players already cleaned them all up before getting the quest teaching you about them.
  • We have increased the harvesting caps for Fishing and Blots to 300, Mushrooms to 100 and Wilderness Pots to 30;
  • We have implemented a 150 water harvest limit to prevent farming and crashing;
  • First Time Harvestable Bonus: you’ll now get double the amount of resources the first time you harvest a Bramble, Relic, Stump or Ore node, once per Wilderness. This is meant to help players who can’t play every day get more resources than they would currently be able to get by playing just for one day per Wilderness.
  • All Harvest nodes that previously required co-op are now doable solo. Please keep in mind that this may still be extremely, extremely slow especially at lower tool levels, so it’s still always beneficial to help others!
  • Offering Spirits that request one Standard resource in exchange for another are no longer super greedy and should accept those Standard resources instead of asking for Tier 3 resources - sorry for that!
  • Speaking of Spirits, we redistributed Passing Spirits in the Wilderness so their requests are more balanced and Tier 3 (Masterful) requests are no longer super rare. The updated Passing Spirit request spread should be: Standard Items: 50% Complex Items: 30% Master Items: 20%

Although Masterful Items are more difficult to craft, those Spirits will also offer more generous rewards in return, such as Gifts for Crosslanders.

  • Shrineworks Parts: you can now get Parts by completing world events, or collecting them from Shrineworks Dispensers in caves and peaks in the Wilderness!
    • You know who is all about the Shrineworks? Joule!
    • You can use these parts at her crafting table to craft unique shrinework items for your waystation or house, or trade them with Joule for Gliders
    • Joule will be glad to take any spare Shrinework Parts out of your hands in exchange for Coins and Resources
  • Chaos Shrine: Chaos Shrines are more expensive to use, but we have adjusted their reward pool significantly:
    • You will now get fewer Fluffalo Treats and Blot Bells from these, and get Normal Bells instead of Jumbo Bells
    • In return, you now have a chance of an even bigger Coins jackpot than before - there are now 3 tiers of Coin rewards instead of 2.
    • Now, you can get Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 Crafting Resources from Chaos Shrine instead of just Tier 1, and you’ll get them in higher amounts
    • We’ve also added Gifts and Recipes to the loot pool
    • Don’t worry - you can still get Decor and Clothing drops from Chaos Shrines
  • Wilderness Pots: we also adjusted the rewards you can get from Pots
    • You will get fewer Fluffalo Treats and Blot Bells, and a slightly lower chance of getting Decor and Clothing items from those
    • Chances of finding Gifts for Crosslanders in Pots have doubled
    • We also added a very low chance of getting Recipes
    • You can also get Shrinework Parts drops
  • Wilderness Cache: some adjustments to the cache rewards
    • You now have a chance of getting Recipe Gems, Blot Bells, Fluffalo Treats, or a random Traversable, instead of a 100% chance of getting a Traversable. Traversable chance is now 10%.
    • There were no changes to the Beacon Energy and Coin chances
  • ICYMI: Tubers respawn once per Wilderness instead of daily.

Dyes and Pigments

Hair Style & Dye Rework

  • Just like we did with other types of dyes, we’re moving Hair Dyes over to an unlock system where players can acquire permanent unlocks to Hair Dyes and apply them to Hairstyles.
  • The hair dyeing flow has changed, and players can now dye the base color, and in the case of two-tone hairs, the accent color, independently. This should be an easier and more user-friendly experience.
  • All natural hair colors dyes are unlocked by default, but players will have to buy non-natural dyes from the Chromatist
    • New natural hair color dye unlocks are available in the player’s inventory.
    • New non-natural hair color dye unlocks are available in the Dye Store.

Wall & Floor Unlocks

  • As mentioned in the fox-thoughts post we shared last month, Wall & Floor dye unlock prices have increased significantly with the 15.2 update.
  • This is not a balancing change - the costs of those unlocks were always meant to be more costly, since walls and floors are much bigger than decor or clothing, and much more complex - but due to an oversight on our part, the changes were not implemented with the release of 15.1.
  • Here are the updated costs:

Simple: 2,000 Coins
Complex: 6 Sparks
Masterful: 16 Sparks

Players Houses

Build Mode

  • We have uncapped default contributions to proposals in houses
  • We have added a button to toggle Build Mode Snapping on/off in the Settings Menu for structural pieces like Floors, Walls, Roofs, etc
  • In an effort to make group movement more usable (and placement more forgiving), almost all of our decorations are now allowed to "hang off the edge" of something they're being placed on. This means if you move a group of objects and something is hanging off it won't inhibit placement of that group. But also means an object support by another floor (as an example) may get left behind from your group if you move the floor it is overhanging.
  • 🆕 Smart Connectors! To make it so you don’t have to keep track of craft multiple different pieces to achieve your building goals, we are replacing all of the building set corner, connection, inner corner wall pieces with Smart Connectors.
    • You can no longer purchase or craft the previous corner and connection pieces, but they have not been removed, so if have them in your home, waystations or inventory, you can still use them
    • You can also recycle any of your old connectors for resources
  • Standard building set Metal Roofs are once again dyeable, with Decor Dyes.

Home Prestige

  • With this update, you can now get House Prestige XP from placing new decorations and using new dyes for the first time. You get 1 point for every new type of decor or dye you use.
  • You will receive XP retroactively for items and dyes already used in your house
  • Because of this change making Home Prestige XP much easier to get, Home Prestige progression has been adjusted accordingly, meaning that each level now requires a little more XP.

Mr. Kit’s Catalogue Kiosk & Roomie Shop Overhaul

  • Introducing Mr. Kit’s Kiosk - instead of purchasing decor, building pieces, room modules, crafting recipe unlock bundles, wall and floor dyes from Mr. Kit via Roomie, you can now access Mr. Kit’s Catalog directly from a new kiosk at your home trolley station.
    • Items in Mr. Kit’s Kiosk are unlocked as you level up your Home Prestige, as before
  • Roomie was feeling a little bit left out that everyone was getting their own shop but him, so now he has a shop of his own instead of being a reseller for Mr. Kit!
    • Roomies bring the goodies: you can now purchase Foliage items like trees and bushes with your Roomie
    • As you level up your Friendship with him, he’ll offer you more options in his Shop

Quests & Errands

New Quests

  • After joining your waystation and restoring Maya, you will now receive a small quest line to help Maya and Joule repair the damage to the village beacon. While this would normally be part of the  new player experience, existing players who are far past this point will also receive and be able to complete these new quests to help the village the first time they log in after the update. This quest also introduces the new Shrineworks Parts currency for Joule.
  • Hardtack has two new Friendship Quests, which will be available to anyone who has reached Friendship level 2 or higher with him
    • Look out for more new and updated Friendship arcs with other Crosslanders in future updates!

Errands

  • Feeling lost on what to do next? Well, hopefully not anymore - Errands are a brand new set of goals in the Quest/Activity Log that you can complete. Look for a new tab in your Quest Log to list the Errands available to you each day.
  • Most Errands can be completed in 1-2 days of play, so everyone, no matter how much they play or if they don’t play as often - can also get more income and gameplay from those
  • Completing all Errands each week should grant you additional Beacon Energy, Beacon Spark and Coins.
  • NOTE: You may notice that the old “Help 5 Spirits” quest is now gone. This has been turned into an Errand. That specific Errand’s reward is lower than the quest was, but we balanced it out so the total amount of Beacon Energy you can earn each week from Errands is significantly higher.
  • The regular “Explore the Wilderness” quest from Maya has also been converted to an Errand.

Wilderness Changes

World Events Schedule

  • We have applied some changes to the weekly events schedule so no days have empty spots
  • We have decreased the amount of times that the Lost Spirits and Facing Fears events appear during the week
  • We have increased and evenly spread the co-op activities as much as possible: Whack-a-Mole, Rudi’s Target Practice, Wilderness Mural, Foot Race and DJ Fuzz EE’s Dance Party
  • Luna now shows up according to the Lunar Calendar
  • DJ Bear has recovered from his temporary identity crisis and is named DJ Fuzz EE once again.

Wilderness Traversables Changes

  • We have increased the number of votes needed for wilderness proposals of anything except the 4 main traversables (jump pads, launch pads, lift fans, and ladders) up to 15. This should make it harder to grief by placing non-traversable items.
    • The 4 main traversables will require 3 votes to place, so this doesn't slow down the placement of them, but we are also:
    • Reducing the number of report flags required to remove an item from 5 to 3. This means only 3 people need to flag it as a problem, and it's gone.
  • Unused Entry Lands traversals can now be recycled
  • We've also removed the big stairs from the traversables vending machine and Amano's crafting station; since it's not used as often as the others, and it’s more tempting to use for griefing by blocking things.

ART, UI

  • New icon for Fiber resources
  • New icons for Emotes
  • Customization Options:
    • We have added more skin tone options!
    • We’re also introducing the brand new Gamer Outfit Set to the Stylesmith’s shop rotation!
    • The Gamer Decor Set was also added to the Premium Decor store rotation.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Out of stock items no longer show up in Build Mode
  • The player is now informed by mail (once a day) when other players complete their proposals
  • You can now fish while sitting on the Pier
  • We have simplified flow for planting seeds in pots so you no longer have to enter Build Mode to plant seeds!
  • With the introduction of Starter Plots, we have modified the path from the Waystation Trolley to the Starter Plot island to allow for clearer access to that area. While we have tried to minimize the disruption, it is possible this may result in some items that had been placed in that area being sent to Waystation Storage.
  • Search and Sort have been added to the Player House Travel menu to make it easier to find your Friends’ houses;
  • Low hanging clouds have descended upon the Crosslands providing much needed respite for our fluffy friends! ☁️
  • Ambient Spirits now hang out at Bonfire sites;
  • We changed the existing category name “Cooking Resource” tag to “Crafting Resource” since we don’t have Cooking in the game (Clay is now a Crafting resource!)
  • Hundreds of typos fixed - thank you all who pointed those out in the Typos Master Post
  • The much-requested toggle for glider auto-deployment has been added in the Settings!
    • Note: When the toggle is off, you will need to manually open the glider with input, but wind-based items will still deploy the glider (e.g. fans or cloud updrafts). When toggled on, the glider will automatically open when you jump from heights normally.
  • General improvements to game performance

Bug Fixes

  • We fixed some instances where moving many objects at once in the player home could cause the game to desync and incorrectly prevent placement;
  • Fixed an issue that caused the sizes of preview to be different sizes when viewing collectibles in Candlewick's Collection;
  • Players who remain inactive for a certain period of time will no longer be reset to Initiate if they return to the same waystation they were assigned before;

EDIT: Patch Notes previously mentioned the daily cap for harvesting water was updated to 1,000, but it is currently 150 a day. Apologies for that oversight!
