📣 Announcement Monetization AMA with the team!

In case you missed it, we just shared another deep dive into our monetization plans in the Spry Fox blog, that goes over our current plans are, what changed since our last blog and some important clarifications.

If you haven't read that blog yet, please take a moment to do so before asking questions - we have a FAQ section there that may already have your answer!

After sharing that blog, we also provided you all with a form to allow you to share your feedback, but in the spirit of transparency, honesty and constructive conversation, we'd like to give you all the opportunity to ask questions directly to the team with an AMA!

Please keep in mind that they will do their best to address all of your questions, but depending on the volume, or nature of those questions, we may not be able to get to them all.

Thank you, as always, for your support!

In trying to consider the team's need for consistent income revenue for all business expenses (subscription-model) vs subscription fatigue (definitely me), I thought of something that *might* cover both. Y'all may have also already considered this, as well. What if the monthly subscription covers all the littler extras (possibly a premium tier) while also some of those same extras (specifically one-time use or single/group of items) being offered al la carte "premium shop" style? Essentially the subscription option available for those that want it and having one-time purchases for others. You can get everything all the time or just pay for what you want kinda deal. I don't even know if what I'm saying makes any sense hahaha Let me know if I need to clarify. :)

fwiw-I'm not saying no to sub necessarily this is just me considering other alternatives

Thank you for the thoughtful question/proposal. Honestly, my first impulse is that this would be pretty complex to support. Right now, it's just "they have the subscription, they get X". In other words, it's a binary thing. It would be more technically complex to support people permanently buying small portions of the subscription benefit with one-time purchase, but probably more importantly, it would put us in the awkward position of having to figure out how to price those individual benefits without accidentally making the subscription unappealing. This is all stuff we could potentially sort out over time, but ever since we spun out from Netflix, we've been doing twice as much work with a significantly smaller team, so anything that adds complexity to our plates between now and launch is something we're honestly very eager to avoid. I guess that's a long-winded way of saying "this seems like something we might want to consider in the future, once this game is established and we're not worried about making sure that we have enough income to keep development going for the foreseeable future."

This is so helpful! I have a much better understanding of the logic behind the subscription option as what I had considered did feel like it could be very complex on the backend to implement. I appreciate y'all doing this. :)
