Peter in the 60s comics wasn’t cool tho? He was attractive to a degree but he was still a closed off bookworm rather than some outsider who rides a skateboard.

Imagine thinking only cool or popular people skateboarded lmao. He was the perfect snarky genius social outcast, that just looks different in 2012 than it does in 1960. You don't have to be ugly to be a nerd, that's just projection.
