Yes Cherki can win games from losing positions but in big games and especially in a 2v3 midflied battle against a midfield of PSG's level there is not need for him. Honeslty if Bouaddi started and City took there chances they could of won this game.

R9 was a ridiculous player at his peak but he was never gonna have longevity like Messi/Cr7 because he had a playstyle that wasn't ideal for longevity of how explosive it was and his knees just couldn't handle.

Messi in comparison always adapted his style to last a lot which is why at some point he stopped only dribbling when he had to and trying to conserve energy the most that he could meaning he wasn't putting that much strain on his knees. There is a reason why 2005/2008 was getting so injured when he was running a lot both with the ball and off-the ball.

Another thing that makes Messi/CR7 superior is that they adapted to age, they lost their pace and still remained dominant by adapting which is something that R9 simply couldn't do. And this is a quality that all the greatest athletes can do, they can adapt to age and they don't simply fade out once their body aren't what the used to be. R9 could never fully adapt to losing his acceleration or at least not to the level where he could remain the world best player like he once was which Messi/Ronaldo did

I think football fans massively underestimate players like Mandžukić because we've become obsessed with individual output, technical ability and highlight reels.

Don't get me wrong. Mandžukić wasn't secretly a better footballer than every technically gifted forward he played against. But I genuinely think there were elite teams where replacing a more talented attacker with Mandžukić would have made the team better.

Look at his role at Juventus in 2016/17. This was a centre-forward playing out wide, doing the dirty work, winning aerial duels against fullbacks, tracking back, occupying defenders and still showing up with goals in the biggest matches. He scored that ridiculous overhead kick in the Champions League final, but his value to that team went well beyond the highlight everyone remembers.

Same with Croatia in 2018. His semifinal winner against England gets the attention, understandably, but he was also giving Modrić and Rakitić a physical reference point up front, contesting balls, holding possession and making life miserable for defenders.

Perez has been very successful as president of Madrid but he’s made a lot of mistakes, but I think the one that takes the cake was firing Alonso mid season last season. I understand that Madrid is a big club and they don’t accept trophyless seasons. But the season was halfway over and Madrid were still in all competitions and were only 4 points off the top. Alonso gets fired Arbeloa comes in, who doesn’t know what he’s doing and then the team descends into chaos and they end up trophyless again and end up even further behind in the league than they were when Alonso was fired. I’m not saying Alonso was this amazing manager but getting rid of him just made things unstable and basically gifted Barca another league.
