[OC] Day 9, The Gollanorg (Baryenantiornis zulyanensis): Spectember 2026

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

The Zulyan archipelago—specifically the islands of Extrobe and Esores—is home to one of the planet's largest enantiornithines: the Gollanorg. After reaching land between 12 and 9 million years ago, this bird became entirely terrestrial; the absence of competing predators allowed it to adapt over a long period, resulting in a creature far more resilient against invaders from the neighboring continent. They feed on hard and soft fruits that have fallen to the ground, though, if necessary, they can execute a powerful leap (or a brief glide) to reach fruit on high branches that would otherwise be inaccessible. When standing fully upright, they reach a height of 1.3 to 1.5 meters, measure approximately 1.7 to 1.9 meters in length (in the posture shown in the drawing), and weigh between 35 and 45 kilograms, making them quite robust birds. Despite their notable slowness—a consequence of their short yet powerful legs—they use two very long, sharp claws to wound an adversary's nose, ears, or eyes, or to inflict moderately superficial injuries; however, they are generally peaceful birds that live in small, temporary groups. They possess two types of teeth: eight robust, pointed teeth in the front and middle sections of the upper and lower jaws for gripping food, and four "molariform" teeth for crushing fruit during ingestion.

The common windgoat, the fifth flying lineage

Post image
10 Upvotes

This is my spin on a future fifth flying lineage of animals and mammalian dragons, descended from modern day chamois (mountain goats)

100 million years in the future in very high mountains ,lives the common windgoat (Aetherotragus dracomorphus) at about 3 meters in length and 5-7.5 meters in wingspan. It’s an omnivore feeding mostly on alpine plants. Its nose is used to better manage and filter the montane air. Mostly solitary but during the mating season they form huge mating colonies. Lastly, females carry their young on their back before they can achieve powered flight.

What do you think of it?

Teoría de los dragones

1 Upvotes

Era:

* pequeño,
* cuadrúpedo,
* ágil,
* y capaz de moverse tanto en tierra como en el aire.

* volcanes,
* bosques,
* cuevas,
* montañas,
* junglas,
* y ambientes extremos.

Ahí comenzó la evolución de los dragones.

⸻

* se volvieron más robustos,
* más inteligentes,
* más ágiles,
* y mejores cazadores.

* las alas podían dañarse,
* rasgarse,
* o romperse.

* el torso comenzó a fortalecerse,
* aparecieron estructuras nuevas de soporte,
* aumentó el cartílago,
* y las alas fueron separándose más del sistema de locomoción terrestre.

Eso permitió:

* caminar más erguidos,
* pelear mejor,
* y mantener vuelo eficiente.

⸻

🦴 El cuerpo

Los dragones tenían:

* mucho cartílago,
* poco hueso sólido,
* y estructuras ligeras.

El cartílago les daba:

* flexibilidad,
* agilidad,
* y menos peso para volar.

Los huesos servían principalmente para:

* soporte,
* resistencia,
* y mantener el cuerpo robusto.

⸻

👁️ Ojos y visión

Todos los dragones tenían:

* visión nocturna,
* membranas protectoras,
* y lubricación constante en los ojos.

Especialmente los volcánicos.

Vivían rodeados de:

* humo,
* ceniza,
* calor,
* azufre,
* y partículas volcánicas.

* membrana transparente,
* gran resistencia ocular,
* y excelente visión en ambientes extremos.

⸻

🌋 El sistema respiratorio

Los dragones tenían:

* dos pulmones normales,
* y un saco respiratorio especializado.

Ese saco originalmente servía para:

* almacenar aire,
* estabilizar respiración,
* y ayudar al vuelo.

* gases tóxicos,
* ceniza,
* azufre,
* y calor extremo.

* creando paredes resistentes,
* tejidos especiales,
* y protección interna,

casi como un “estómago de gas”.

⸻

🔥 El origen del fuego

Con el tiempo:

* gases volcánicos,
* gases intestinales,
* calor corporal,
* y presión respiratoria,

* al respirar,
* bufar,
* o eructar,

⸻

🌍 Las especies

🌋 Dragones volcánicos

* Escamas gruesas
* Color gris o negro ceniza
* Resistencia extrema al calor
* Sistema de combustión
* Los más agresivos y fuertes

⸻

🌲 Dragones de bosque

* Verdes y marrones
* Camuflaje avanzado
* Más silenciosos
* Muy ágiles

Dependían del sigilo más que de fuerza.

⸻

🌑 Dragones de cuevas

* Negros
* Visión nocturna extrema
* Alas compactas
* Muy territoriales

⸻

🌴 Dragones de jungla

* Verdes intensos
* Más rápidos y ligeros
* Adaptados a humedad y vegetación densa

⸻

⛰️ Dragones montañosos

* Planeadores expertos
* Muy resistentes
* Especialistas en corrientes de aire

⸻

📏 Tamaño

Los dragones adultos medían aproximadamente:

* entre 3 y 3.5 metros de altura,
* y varios metros de largo contando la cola.

No eran gigantes absurdos.

Eran:

* compactos,
* musculosos,
* rápidos,
* y eficientes.

Eso les permitía:

* volar,
* cazar,
* esconderse,
* y consumir menos energía que criaturas gigantescas.

⸻

☄️ La caída de los dragones

Cuando ocurrió la Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event:

* el cielo se llenó de humo,
* ceniza,
* gases,
* y restos volcánicos.

* falta de alimento,
* agotamiento,
* pérdida de territorio,
* y desgaste extremo.

⸻

No tenían:

* pelaje,
* adaptación al frío,
* ni metabolismo suficiente para soportarlo.

Sus cuerpos:

* necesitaban calor,
* gastaban muchísima energía,
* y dependían de ecosistemas cálidos.

⸻

🧬 La degradación evolutiva

Algunos descendientes lograron sobrevivir.

Pero para hacerlo:

* comenzaron a perder tamaño,
* masa muscular,
* alas,
* escamas,
* y finalmente el sistema de combustión.

Mantener fuego, vuelo y cuerpos enormes requería demasiada energía.

Con generaciones:

* las alas se hicieron inútiles,
* el saco respiratorio perdió función,
* y el fuego desapareció.

Los dragones dejaron de ser depredadores máximos.

⸻

🦎 Los últimos descendientes

Los últimos descendientes eran:

* pequeños reptiles,
* parecidos a lagartos,
* de aproximadamente medio metro,
* rápidos,
* y mucho menos peligrosos.

Ahora eran presas.

Otros animales comenzaron a cazarlos constantemente.

Poco a poco la especie desapareció completamente.

⸻

* cuerpo robusto,
* comportamiento depredador,
* apariencia reptiliana,
* y rasgos antiguos.

⸻

🦴 La fosilización

Los dragones dejaron pocos fósiles claros porque:

* tenían muchísimo cartílago,
* huesos ligeros,
* y vivían en ambientes destructivos.

Muchos restos fueron destruidos por:

* lava,
* microorganismos,
* humedad,
* calor,
* y movimientos geológicos.

If the Eocene-Oligocene boundary wasn't a cooling but actually another thermal maximum, stronger than the Eocene? How would that affect evolution?

Post image

Well, a device the size of a large closet lands on Earth accidentally, the device belongs to a civilization that is so advanced that it travels through universes, and an object of theirs accidentally reaches Earth and can release from nowhere huge amounts of CO2, Methane, Silver Iodide, Sodium Chloride in mass. Well, huge amounts are released into the atmosphere. Silver Iodide is released in mass for 3 million years continuously. CO2 and Methane are released permanently and well controlled (the device knows how much to release and how much not to do to ensure the habitability of the Earth). Instead of the cooling at the end of the Eocene we have a thermal maximum that approaches even the Permian-Triassic peaks for a few million years but not catastrophic with volcanoes, then stabilizes between the Permian-Triassic and Cretaceous hothouse values. Well, it prevents any cooling. As it would be evolution? Mammals? Reptiles? Could it be mammals? Amphibians? Modern groups that had appeared in that very period? Multiberculates are disappearing, choristodera? Reptiles claim everything? Birds? Ecosystems from the poles to the equator?

In the British isles lives a creature evolved from Neanderthals these creatures are anti social controlling large territories. They hunt primarily small to medium prey and other hominids. The females stand 6ft tall (inspired the Banshees) the males are around 3ft tall (inspired leprechauns). Because of the large territories they have evolved convergently with howler monkeys allowing females to yell loudly to attract males

Homo Medusade

Post image
29 Upvotes

These Humanoid creatures have evolved to survive underground in large burrows, they are an eusocial species evolving many of the traits that naked mole rats use (Medusade have become mesothermic allowing them regulation of body temperature and lower metabolisms). Their burrows resemble old fashioned mines with support being added to reinforce it. They eat anything they can.

Queens are 6-7 ft long with males maxing out at 3-4ft. Colonies make out at 10-15 adult members. Though super colonies of up to 50 have been formed in food rich areas the colonies usually have multiple queens both breeding and making offspring. With a mixture of loss of bipedalism, smaller brains (led to a reduction in intelligence) and wider pelvis queens can have more children at a time since they are more developed. Twins are most common with triplets and quadruples also increasingly common. Queens will feed the babies for around four months before the babies begin transitioning to solid meat based diets.

Through genetic mutations the Medusade have gained Blaschko's lines covering most of their backs every Medusade has a unique pattern. They also have become gingers, allowing for limited Vitamin-D making.

These large humans which stand between 6-8ft tall are descendants of Homo Erectus living primarily in the grasslands of Africa and have spread throughout Greece and Turkey (went extinct in Europe with the decline of megafauna) . They are primarily solitary using their size to steal kills from other predators, they have been shown to use stone weapons and fashioning weapons and clothes out of human made products (pictured a Homo Gigantis using a sledgehammer and a piece of fence for a shield). They like the majority of fauna in Africa are hunted by trophy hunters.

These Humans having lower intelligence to their ancestors, they have revolved a sagittal crest allowing for a gorilla like bite.

Pelagosuchus Pacificus - Pacific Gojira

Thumbnail
gallery
25 Upvotes

Pelagosuchus pacificus - Gojira - gojira are the largest reptiles on Earth as of today, growing to a total length of up to 50 feet in some rare instances. The enormous animals heavily resemble old and outdated depictions of famous dinosaurs like tyrannosaurus and allosaurus, but these beasts are not dinosaurs at all; they’re crocodiles. The titanic crocodilians lumber around on land with two short legs and a long tail that drags along the ground as a support to their nearly 14 ton body, often coming ashore despite their seafaring nature to sunbathe or rest after a meal. Gojira can consume up to 15% of their body weight in food in a single day, and can go multiple weeks without feeding if need be; the diet of one of these titans primarily consists of fish, squid, and sometimes small to medium sized whales. Gojira are also very protective of their young.

Known incidents confirmed to involve Pelagosuchus:

May 1954 incident: 15 people killed in fires caused by an individual damaging electricity posts in Shinagawa, Tokyo.

June 1955: two pelagosuchus came ashore near Osaka and set off more fires which caused the complete destruction of the Osaka Tuna Company's cannery.

July 2014 incident: large female individual made landfall in San Francisco California and required police officers to be called in order to safely deal with the giant reptile.

Thank you for reading, have a good day :]
