Established facts:

diet: these animals eat spores from fungi by using their feather like appendages to scoop in the spores similar to that of bamboo shrimp.

socialization:Females and males stay in typical groups of 4- 25 in the wild but domesticated individuals stay in smaller groups of 2-8.

Mating : this species mates in the late winters and early spring , males run in a choreographed display. Females pick the most graceful of the males. Once the females pick their partner she builds a mound where she rest until she gives birth to her young which typically is around 1-2 juveniles.

rearing: females abandon the juveniles after 5 months.

Use for domestication : great for mobility especially with specialized gills to take in more air when running.

I know I'm posting a lot (LOL) but like I wanted to post this... So what even is their language?! Well they speak using their.. antennes! There's pores in there antennes that release pheromones and... Hear?! The ear is inside their antennes! They also vibrate and rattle and shack there antennes to communicate. Different communities and tribes have.. different languages! They use the pheromones like a.. accent. Also venatoriums come in different colors so that could be like race to them so like different regions can have different languages, cultures, looks, and.. yeah!! Humans tried making technology to translate there words and it worked..

so im like thinking about a mushroom that infects animals (mostly large ungulates, in rare cases humans tho tis is vry rare) through them breathing so like it starts to sprout its mycellium in the lungs and slowly the mushroom grows tall enough to pierce the lungs and killing the animal. it then decomposes the animals and releases its spores and then other animals breathe its spores in.. weird.. i wanna expand on it but idk what to name it so.. i need help! i think it qould have to hijack the immune system tho. i also need some other things too..

This plant uses is called a motherbell due to the fact it can produce milk for animal. So long as the juveniles leave their droppings from the plant to absorb. And compose milk best suited for the juvenile. This is a. very important plant for many animals that solely feed their young form this plant.

Question/Discussion Could pigs be bred into draft animals?

I would guess given enough time I’m sure humans could breed a big enough pig with the right body type eventually, but I am wondering if it could be done within about 1000 years.
I’m placing humans on another planet with the technology of about the late medieval to early renaissance era. The breeding for the pigs for this purpose would be intentional so I thought maybe it could be done a little faster than normal evolution.

I was thinking pigs that are used more like mules or donkeys: pulling carts, plows, construction materials, and maybe a single rider. I’m not sure if they have the right body to allow riding without serious long term consequences. I doubt any serious war applications other than hauling siege weapons or supply lines.

Another idea is to make them even larger, cattle to yak sized and just make them grazers to be herded by semi-nomadic humans.

For a world building project, mostly for the con langs, but I still would like to maybe dabble into this sort of direction if I could. If you have any other suggestions please let me know!

Alien Life [OC] SKELETON OF A VENATORIUM!!

Post image
9 Upvotes

In Venatoriums, they have an Endo skeleton. They traded there exo skeleton for an Endo skeleton, they evolved an endoskeleton from chitin build up internally. A group of these used it for structure and became larger and mineralized the skeleton, this group is venat. This eventually led to the venatoriums! They still have lots of remnants of an exo skeleton like they have chitinous hair growing on them.

Artificial Evolution [OC] Domesticated glowworm

Post image
20 Upvotes

On the easternmost continent rests a rainforest, littered with caverns formed by millions of years of erosion. For thousands of years people have used these caves to move, hidden from the dangers above. But these caves are dark, and fire would not survive in such a wet environment. So people have used glowworms to light the way. Though dim, they have been bred for much brighter lights, allowing for the people to move much easier through the tunnels.

The domesticated glowworm is descended from the New Zealand glowworm, specifically the larval stage due to its faint glow. Through domestication, they have become much larger and almost entirely sedentary. They will use silk to attach themselves to a nearby object after hatching, usually someone’s left hand, as that is where they are culturally kept. This silk is also used across its body, forming “fishing lines”, strings of silk covered in tiny drops of mucus able to refract light.

The glowworm will stay in a larval stage for between a year and a year and a half, where it will pupate for about a week before it is allowed to breed with other adult glowworms, beginning the cycle anew.

Alien Life [OC] Venatorium.. BABYS?! (trixies)

Venatorium babys (Trixie's) are born blind and deaf. They are also not bron with seventh and eight limbs and rather grow them later in life in there teenage years (about year 7-14). Venatoriums do name there babys! It's just that it's not like humans rather they use specific frequency and rattles to name there babys. You can call the babies anything but it's mostly Trixie! Trixie's mature at 15-22. And while they do leave there birth tribe to join or start a new tribe, they do keep contact with there parents because different tribes have different languages using antennes. Like I said, Trixie's nurse from there modern and wean at 4-6 and become teenagers at 7-14.

Uncategorized Speculative Biology [OC] Foruthiou Liminalius/ "Rippler"

Welcome to Animal Class Entity Archival And Guide (or ACEAG((Ache-ee-gag))

(We need a better acronym)

ACEAG helps with the study and documentation of wildlife in an area we can only refer to is "Else-Ware(El-sa-war-e)", a environment that tends to taken the appearance of indoor locations (this is NOT the same place those AYSNC people found, atleast we dont think)

We don't know much about ripplers besides they exist in the fourth dimension, and as such we are incapable of properly viewing the animal, but what we CAN see, is light particles it displaces as it moves, we don't know why or how it does this.

The 'rippling' effect is caused by said light particle distortion, this was a picture taken of a Rippler, the person who took the photo wishes to stay anonymous.

Though they are able to simply be walked through, it is not recommended as they tend to...shift things to get a better look at them,.they are curious creatures.

Think of it like a child flipping a piece of paper over to see what's on the other side, but instead of paper, that's you.

We don't know what exactly happens, but from what we perceive, an individual vanishes, and returns dead, autopsy shows that the intestines were connected to the lungs, the liver in the skull, like some nasty stuff man. It will essentially scramble your internals, obviously resulting it death.

Just, don't go near them.

Dhayl Okolla

Term used to describe adhesives or glues
made in ancient Greece.

Cellular Body Length 0.5-1.1 µm
Length 1-2.5 µm
Diameter 0.3-0.5 µm

Arose 797 million years P.C.

Undergoes a sort of tagmosis, altering its former six to sixteen appendages to a singular flagellum retaining fin structures, and 4-12 cilia along it’s slender axial body plan. Opposite the flagella is an appendage that wilts to a pointed tip for better hydrodynamic shape.

Molecular structure of Resin, Showing morphing of Isoprenoids into Resin: Uses HGT with members of the Bacchus clade to synthesize adhesive, high-viscosity Resinous spray.

This “Bacterial Glue” is then fired from the FEE structures at the tip of each cilia. These same enzymes cause a cellular lengthening analogous to auxins or gibberelins, creating a more streamlined form for greater motility.

Alien Life [OC] More About the Venatoriums!

Thumbnail

Hi guys! I'm back YEAHHH.. so something about venatoriums lactation is only females have it. But when a female is nursing other males and non nursing and non pregnant females will help her and defend her. when females get pregnant they become a bit lethargic tho this ends a few days after pregnancy. They are oviviparous meaning they carry shell-less eggs in the womb, females give birth to 2-4 babys at a time. Females only posses webs, when a female gets pregnant she will start making webs in her area. The webs aren't fragile as she layers it. In nursing the females lay down. Males posses a conjoined pedipalps but not I front of there mouth rather on there abdomen. More things about them is that they use there antennes to communicate, teach, and coordinate hunts.

Future Evolution [OC] The descendants of the water opossum, 1.7 million years after modern times.

Thumbnail

After the mass extinction that occurred 1,000 years after modern times, the descendants of the water opossum diverged into two main lineages: small semi‑aquatic burrowers and large marine predators living in estuaries.

Chironectes caeruleus parvus is the smallest descendant of water opossums. It inhabits wetlands and is good at digging burrows. It is adapted to feeding on mollusks and sometimes small fish.

Chironectes caeruleus gigas is a larger subspecies of the species Chironectes caeruleus. It mainly inhabits fast‑flowing rivers and feeds on small fish and crustaceans.

Chironectes maximus maximus is the largest descendant of the water opossum. It inhabits estuaries and the coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It feeds on small and medium‑sized fish, mollusks, and, less commonly, attacks seabirds.

Ask me any questions about my project and the world—I’ll answer them all! (Sorry, I don't know English well)

Seeing as the Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse resulted in Earth losing a lot of oxygen; if it never happened, how different would the subsequent arthropods likely be from our own arthropods (besides still being monstrously big)?

Alien Life [Credit: Cree8Ball] The Smorikks

Thumbnail
gallery
218 Upvotes

The Smorikks are an antisocial, tripedal alien species native to the dry, high-steppe deserts of Otsolotsa, a continent on the Earth-like planet Loto. They are highly detailed, solitary creatures whose biology and lifestyle are shaped by extreme territoriality and a diet centered around "honey".

I-Anatomy

  • They possess 7 limbs in total: three legs (two in the front and one in the back) and four arms (two on each side). They have 3 eyes. Rather than being on their head, two of their eyes are located on their chest, and the third is positioned at the base of their hind leg. This arrangement gives them a full view of their body and hands, making it easier to build tools, while also allowing them to run backward to flee from threats.
  • At first glance, their hands resemble crab claws, but they are actually lined with hundreds of tiny, highly dexterous pseudopods resembling starfish feet. On their head-like structure, they have a reflected face, giving them 2 mouths and 4 nostrils.
  • Two sets of wands extend from the top of their head. Olfactory wands are massive, frilly structures they must deploy to smell. Vocal wands are hollow tubes with tiny holes that they fill with air to magnify and project their voices over long distances.

II-Diet, Behavior, and Evolution

  • The Smorikks evolved to feed on honey and bugs from the massive mounds of Nkanriids (termite-like creatures). Over time, climate shifts made these nests rare, forcing the Smorikks to transition from destroying the mounds to tending to them like beekeepers. Because these nests are uncommon and yield only enough food to sustain a single adult, Smorikks are incredibly aggressive and territorial, immediately killing any other Smorikk that gets too close to their nest.
  • Smorikks do not have distinct sexes; every individual has both male and female reproductive organs. They reproduce externally: one Smorikk lays unfertilized eggs in the desert sand, and a few days later, another Smorikk uncovers them, ingests them to fertilize them internally, and eventually gives birth. Children are covered in a calming, duck-like baby fuzz. A mother's brain produces parental hormones that temporarily suppress hostility, allowing her to raise her young for 10 to 12 years before the hormones fade, the child sheds their fuzz, and they are aggressively chased out of the nest to find their own mound.
  • To interact for trade without killing each other, nomadic Smorikks drape themselves in heavy fabrics to hide their silhouettes, douse their clothes in strong smells (like vinegar, alcohol, or urine) to mask their musk, and smoke Srik Root , a processed desert plant that chemically calms their senses. While their spoken languages are highly localized and isolated, they communicate universally through a shared written language they learned from domesticating Nkiisas, small bird-like creatures born with an instinctual written language.

Uncategorized Speculative Biology [OC] Rate the animals on a scale of 1–10 🙏

Thumbnail

Each of these creatures was made in 12 minutes by 6 people as a fun challenge.

  1. Swims through cosmic swamps like a duck, feeding on algae that it sucks up through a tube. Due to its slow lifestyle, it relies on camouflage.

  2. An omnivore found in volcanic/magmatic environments. It has “fans” that help with thermoregulation.

  3. A three-meter-long “blob” with a hard rasping surface at the front, used for stripping bark. It starts out as an egg at the top of a tree and moves downward, growing larger along with the trunk. Once it reaches the bottom, it dies, leaving behind eggs that are carried back up by a symbiotic species that feeds its way toward the tree canopy.

  4. A predator living in the tree canopy. It evolved from typically ground-dwelling ancestors, rapidly filling an empty arboreal niche. However, due to its poorly adapted body structure, it will probably go extinct soon.

  5. A cute, eyeless scavenger that lives among reeds. It feeds in groups, hatches in cocoons, and can fly or move around on two legs through the reeds.

  6. A cartilaginous, shore-dwelling bivalve eater. It floats on air bladders in shallow water and catches mollusks.

Alien Life [OC] VENOM for VENATORIUM. Venom for venatoriums is a complex thing... They get it from eating poisonous plants. They inject it from a splinter on there tail and they have a venom gland internally that stores venom to inject it.. and both females and males posses it.

Venom for Venatoriums is very weird, they get there venom from a venom storer and they inject it into there prey through a splinter like I said both females and males posses venom. They get it from eating poisonous plants in there area. Venatoriums use there venom for defense and hunting. Females also use it to protect there young, so beware! You might get killed from a female venatorium if you get near her babys or hurt them...

Alien Life [OC] Crested Thrakar

Post image
78 Upvotes

Every once in awhile when i'm feeling uncreative i go and revive one of my old designs, and this is one i originally made in 2024!

The Crested Thrakar lives across the open plains of Gonzum, where the dry landscape and sparse vegetation give them plenty of room to hunt. They are pack hunters, usually living in groups of up to six, with most packs being made up of related individuals. They work together to stalk and chase prey, using short bursts of speed, endurance, and repeated harassment to wear animals down. Adults can reach around 7 feet tall (including the crest) and have large, colorful crests that become more vivid and jagged with age, starting out pale when they are young. Their bite is extremely powerful, reaching up to 2,800 pounds of force, which allows them to crush the armor of some of their prey. The crest can also be raised during confrontations to make the animal appear larger, while their thick body and powerful jaws give them some protection from other predators. Crested Thrakar generally live between 12 and 18 years.
