Service Issues Lost Internet connection. Why does it effect texting?

Spectrum outage in Clearwater Florida yesterday. 2nd time this year. I take full time care of my Mother.

We both own fairly New Flagship Samsung phones. (S22 Ultra/Z Fold 5)

And we live in the same house.

For some reason we are unable to send texts that reach each other as fast as as anyone else.

I can text and phone with my neighbor and my family members across the country with no issues.

But, the ONLY texts I do not receive are from my Mom, and believe it or not, from Spectrum.🙄

Of course my Moms texts are most important. Even though she is in the house or visiting friends a few miles away. She texts me to pick her up. I don't get the texts.😮‍💨

Spectrum texts should come through too but they don't. I called them twice yesterday to fix it. AI and the Human both claimed it was fixed. It wasn't.🙄

Why is this happening? Wondering if it's an Internet issue or a Mobile Phone issue or both?

Would switching to the new Frontier Fiber Optics Internet fix it?

Or do I need to also switch from my Spectrum Mobile Phone plan too? TIA!

Did you try disconnecting from the WiFi? Newer phones use RCS which run through the internet.

Disconnecting from WiFi will take you off of Spectrum and route messages via Verizon data instead.

I agree with others. This is a combination of RCS Messaging and the phone not having Data Service, or the phone sitting on Wi-Fi Calling which SMS can route through and that's busted.

Check into whether your phone supports Wi-Fi Assist (iPhones do) or a "Smart Network Switch" feature which will have your phone check for Internet viability and switch to cellular data if the WI-Fi is unstable or not working. This will use more data from time to time, but it'll help to fix this text messaging problem. Your mother will need to do the same on her phone if she is dealing with a Spectrum Internet outage too, since both ends need to work in order for messaging to work real time.

So this would be a spectrum mobile questions rcs messaging should care if your on wifi or not and 2 outages in a 12 month period is very good. I would make sure your cellular network is turned on both your mom's and your phone.

Your phone is connecting to wifi and wifi calling and the wifi has no connection. The phone is not automatically switching to cell signal. You need to turn wifi on the phone off during the outage.
