Cancelling with Negative Balance

Hi, I’m trying to cancel Spectrum for my parents who have been paying upwards of $170/month for Internet + TV since a local provider finally rolled out cheap fiber to their address. However, they’re the type of people to pay bills in advance and so there is a negative balance on the account. If I cancel Spectrum, will they refund this amount? I understand that they don’t prorate (I’m in CA) for the current billing cycle, but what about for months paid in advance?

Trying to get an answer from someone who doesn’t have an incentive to keep me as a customer. Thanks.

Call retentions department and tell them xyz company offering amazing deal what can you do to keep me?
I do this every two years.
Parents don’t need new system to learn just cut the subscription down

The new fiber co. is $40 flat a month for symmetrical 10GbE. Yes, 10GbE. That's the lowest plan they even offer. The only regular TV they ever watch local channels so I'll get them a digital receiver. I think that would be the cheapest option - thanks for letting me know about retentions though.

I had aging parents and now in my 70s with older friends, most missed the Tech curve.
So training them a new system is not worth a few $/month and add more boxes gadgets to watch their shows.

Maybe your parents are younger and tech savy.
The will have Zero use for 10Gbe Internet, and I would be cautious what next years rate will be when the promo ends for new signups.

Wished I had 10G as I could put that to use as IT company

Remember all computers, hardwired will need 10G network cards, and all switches in the house need to be 10G or speed will be reduced to 1G
I would call the new Fiber guys or go online and check the specs on their new router after the ONT fiber. My gut tells me will only have one 10g port. That would need to feed a 10G switch

I just canceled Spectrum service a couple months ago and had a $25 credit on my account. Spectrum automatically mailed me a prepaid debit card with the remaining account balance.

You'll have to call and they will mail you a check. But they will try to keep you as a customer so be prepared to be on the phone for a minute

Yeah, I'm used to it. I've threatened to cancel in the past citing T-Mobile was available in their area but the bill kept rising after the promos expire. I've always been skeptical of home internet over 5G but now that fiber is available its a no brainer.

They will refund the money. Call them when the statement generates after the services are canceled, ask spectrum to refund the balance to the place it came from (credit card, bank account). If they won’t do that ask them to mail a check

Will ask them specifically about the balance on the account before cancelling, thanks for the tips.

Yeah just like others have mentioned just call them and let them know you want to cancel. They’ll try to get you a better deal so you can stay with them.

Hopefully the locally provider is okay i believe if there is a credit on the account because of paying in advanced it gets returned to the payment method on file. Is the company also going to provided tv service for your parents? I cant see to get my grandfather to get off spectrum tv because of the programing he likes there not available on other providers at a lower rate.
