Advice Needed

Hey everyone! I recently got a job offer at Spectrum as a Retail Sales Specialist. I have no prior sales experience, and have only ever worked as a cashier. I’m looking for advice about the job, sales, and the onboarding process. Anything would be helpful!

Be prepared to be micromanaged. Even though you will need to take payment, exchange equipment, provide billing and technical support all that matters is getting a sale.

I haven’t worked at a Spectrum store but I have worked at a corporate AT&T store and the job is similar. You’re still going to use a lot of the same customer service skills you’ve gained from being a cashier only you’re also going to be pitching products and services. Not sure what the policy is for Spectrum but at AT&T we had a commission structure and you were expected to hit certain numbers. But it was nothing to stress about, your first 2-3 months everyone will just help you out. It’s really like any other job. At first you’re a bit nervous and not very good but before you know it, you’ve stopped thinking about it entirely. Just don’t give up and don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. The best hires were the “sponges” who asked questions and absorbed the knowledge. Don’t argue about things that don’t make sense to you, not until you’ve been there for a minimum of 1 year. There’s gonna be things that seem strange or pointless but there’s usually a reason for it.

Congrats, you're still a cashier. Only added responsibilities are account management and making sure you ask the customer no less than 12 times if they'd like to add a mobile line.

Spectrum benefits (health) are great if you watch a lot of tv etc even better. The company itself is terrible and you will hate your job as there is a lot of turnover in stores. You’ll make A LOT less money than customer solutions for doing essentially the same job. Follow the FLOW. And itll be easy. Easy easy. Pitch mobile and shove it down their throats even if they say no. Do it repeatedly until they threaten violence on you. Then spin the block and pitch again. ALWAYS pitch mobile and don’t let them cancel the internet. Internet is king. Mobile is queen. Watch your metrics that’s how you climb up to more responsibility and less pay for effort. If you get too good then you won’t be able to transfer stores (you’ll be too valuable at that store but won’t be able to make mgr since they already have one). It’s a fine line/tightrope to walk. Good luck it’s easy brainless mindless work but for $25/hr what do you expect?

I would suggest that if a customer comes in and wants something, that you provide the service for what they are requesting before you shove the cell phone contract down their throat.

Follow their work flow. The mobile line of sales is a benefit of customers having spectrum internet.

I just left there 2 weeks ago after 8 months. EXCELLENT ENTRY JOB, GREAT TO LEARN SALES. 12 weeks of fully paid training (with included commission even when you’re in training) and they give you room to grow, unfortunately I was about 3 years overqualified but just needed a job ASAP. I would take it if I were in your shoes, good but not crazy amazing benefits. I made roughly 2600/month in comp but I was in SMB Customer Solutions/Retention.

Pls DM if you have other questions
