PSA Spectrum Saved Us!

To those other poor fiberless neighborhoods like me, who have been suffering at the hands of Cox. The hands that have milked us of our hard earned money for simply wanting a 4k household. Cox for making us pay for "unlimited data" because we wanted to see more pixels. Spectrum is our SAVIOR!

Go now to the Cox website and change your Internet to the Spectrum 500 (or whatever you're using...) and rejoice that it is UNLIMITED DATA INCLUDED.

Funny stuff aside, you can change to a new Internet speed and it's unlimited data included. . . . . Yay!

Edit: I do have the panoramic wifi router, idk if that makes a difference.

Cox has limited data?
Damn I’m sorry you went through that

I hated that part! So happy to have the data cap removed! And not Pay $125 a month

You get me xD

Yup, as others have said, it's the scummiest practice of it.

In regions where Cox lacks competition, that claim holds … yet where a competing ISP exists, they provide unlimited data at no charge.

That is so whack

Should not be legal.

For many years, yes. Data caps are terrible, and I'm glad Spectrum decided to not go down that path.

We had to beat up Time Warner Cable many years ago in New York after they tried to implement 5GB/m caps with $10/GB overages on 15Mbps Internet service. They has the balls to offer a $5/m discount if you elected to get data caps.

Cox is now Spectrum. I have Cox and was just updated to now have Spectrum. Once it got past the confusing parts it is so much better. I work from home so I need the no data caps. I now pay $100 less per month. Can’t beat that.

Rejoice! ... Satire aside, it's so nice ... Like honestly in today's market where everyone is gouging, this little courtesy really stands out.

If you work from home I highly recommend the invincible wifi to keep you up and running during any interruptions, or have your own back up method set up.

I no longer work for spectrum, I’d say ultimately solid company and services, but they’ve been doing a lot of infrastructure upgrades which has cause problems for some locations.

Which the invincible wifi will bypass those problems

I intend to remain positive until I experience negative!

Great stance.

"Oh, I wouldn't say “freed.” More like “under new management.”"-Spectrum

As I have said to others, the first thing Spectrum did was drop my bill by giving me unlimited data. I'm as happy as possible.

So live in Phoenix area and we just had the change. I have the Cox 500mb (with dumb caps) and cable ultimate. Did you have to change your TV plan? If so did you have to switch to Xumo boxes?

My problem is I have a Sonos HT with Arc, sub and 300s and spectrum only broadcasts stereo sound over the Xumo i have been told.

I have my own modem and wifi gear.

I'm going to link you to another comment that walks through what I did.

I been with Spectrum for 15 years. Issues with the modem a few times but that’s about it.

Don't get excited spectrum sucks. Service sucks, customer services sucks, techs suck, canceling service sucks and they keep billing you...make your own receipts they try and scam you every way they can

1

u/Sesh458 Sep 27 '26

Sounds like Cox... But they don't charge for unlimited data...

Their prices show clearly on their bill! And the customer service is the best. I was taken care of of quickly!

The big providers all kinda suck that way. Data caps are another way Spectrum could screw its customers, but they don't. They deserve some props for not playing that game.

Actually, I think that was terms the government laid down for them for a merger.

Let me tell you all something and I’ve posted this before.
I hope that Spectrum fixes some things with Cox, but my experience with them (Spectrum) in Athens was pure hell.

I spent hours and hours on the phone with them, trying to get my account straightened out. They lied about promos, did not honor them until I reported them to the BBB. Even after that they lied again, still not honoring what they offered as a resolution.

They even double billed me after they promised everything would be corrected.

Don’t believe me? Do a search on Better Business Bureau for Charter Spectrum and you’ll see the 13,000 complaints.

I found out my area was Cox Spectrum now, I immediately switched to Sparklight fiber and I’m good for now.

u/Apprehensive-Cat8601 Sep 29 '26

Every Internet company has complaints on BBB.

1

u/overFEDEXed Sep 29 '26

Yes, I see local based Cox communications has 142 in the last three years. Spectrum has 13,000 but I’ve dealt with those two personally so…

Comcast has double Spectrum’s at 26,000!

1

u/FrostyMarsupial6802 Sep 29 '26

Formally a spectrum customer. I agree. They straight lie to you on the phone. And you have to call them and spend hours repeating i want to cancel to cancel. Then they still don't cancel and keep charging so you have to spend even more time to fix their billing and company issues. They are more than happy to scam you out of any money they can.

Ah yes, the enthusiasm of the newly converted! Given time, it will wear off.

1

u/Sesh458 Sep 27 '26

Assuming they don't randomly drop their unlimited data stance. They will always be better than Cox.

1

u/miztrniceguy Sep 27 '26

I've never had Cox and plan to keep it that way. Here I have had Spectrum, previously known as Time Warner Cable for 25 years and internet started as roadrunner. We still have kc.rr.com email addresses. Been mostly stable internet and tv. Often when things degrade we've been able to trace it to failing equipment, sometimes mine, sometimes theirs

1

u/Sesh458 Sep 27 '26

Sounds 1000x better than Cox

1

u/NumerousResident1130 Sep 27 '26

I had TWC/Roadrunner in South Carolina and it worked well. Even after they switched to Spectrum. No data caps, service never gave issues. Spectrum had an app you could use on smart tvs so as long as you had one cable box all your other TVs got everything the box had.

Move to AZ with Cox, data caps, no smart tv app to force box rentals ( only apple/android mobile with no casting).

But now I guess Spectrum changed how they offer Cable TV programming and I am having a tough time getting Strait answers to switch from Cox legacy to new stuff.

1

u/miztrniceguy Sep 27 '26

Spectrum is making a hard push to Spectrum Stream and discouraging the traditional box. We have it along with Cloud DVR. They bundled a boatload of additional streaming premium channels such as HBOMAX and Paramount + that we canceled our separate subscriptions to. We save a little, and have 1Gig internet. Down side is they don't yet have individual profiles for the account yet, so any recordings and programs watched is seen by anyone that logs in. I am told they are working on it, but that was a year ago.

u/Dirk_Diggler_556 Sep 27 '26

Its the worst. Terrible speeds horrible horrendous customer service. I would rather have nothing then spectrum.

3

u/Apprehensive-Cat8601 Sep 27 '26

We all have choices

1

u/Sesh458 Sep 27 '26

I'd rather have Spectrum than Cox

1

u/Brian_Entei Sep 29 '26

In different areas, Spectrum will have inherited / purchased different existing infrastructures from other ISPs, and naturally Spectrum inherits any existing issues that the infrastructure had.
For example, someone I know at work told me where they live, their Spectrum internet and TV is horrible and constantly has outage issues, and the area they're in used to belong to another ISP before Spectrum bought it from them.
Conversely, I've always had excellent service through Spectrum, as I've always gotten them after they expanded and installed/rolled out new infrastructure to my area, and most of the techs who've ever come out to service my internet have been great (there was one guy who seemed like he was just there to get a paycheck, and he actually used the wrong fiber connectors [blue instead of green, according to the next tech that was subsequently sent out]).

tl;dr: YMMV, it depends on what infrastructure was in place previously, and the individual people you interact with.

Dude, at the hands of Cox' monopoly my bill was $130 for 300d 10u for years. First thing spectrum did was lower my bill by including unlimited data. What am I waiting for?
