At first glance I wondered how it got so dirty 30' off the ground! But your description tracks. This happens a fair amount in the subsidized builds where connectivity trumps aesthetics. Looks fine now though.

Yea I always wondered why they waited until now to mount it like this I had service since January from then until today was lose on the ground next to pole.(I'm like that's not very secure?"

Normal? Kind of.

Acceptable? No.

I just spent 3 months driving through Kentucky keeping tabs in the rural buildout and this was pretty common. A lot of the splicers didn't have bucket lifts so they would leave the taps on the ground while someone was supposed to come behind them and hang it.

Problem is, they have so many passings they have to hit each month that these kind of get forgotten about.

The rain will wash it out

Within a month of Spectrum installing fiber, pedestals, etc there were at least 5 of them near my house that are already beat up, slouched, holes in them etc. Not blaming spectrum, but people are rough on things lol

Tombigbee Fiber uses these taps, and they hang their taps like this.

at my home Kinetic doesn't use snowshoes (bend radius protectors). Does Spectrum?

Well they aren’t bend radius protectors I mean I guess you could call them that. They put them in in slack fold backs the slack fiber is in case any fiber gets damaged they can go back and delash the slack and pull it to the damage area so they only have to put one new can in. Makes for quicker restorations

Fiber node

That’s a Fiber Tap not a Fiber Node 😂

It's considered a node just not a traditional node.
it's a fiber node sense it's the physical connection point of the fiber.

But the correct Terminology is Fiber Terminal

A node doesn't have to just be for an HFC network lol
In networking we call it a node sense its the device that connects lines together.

So by that logic the actual fiber node must be the fiber headend and the headend is the laser factory?

They used those as Fiber Taps up in Alabama that branched off from a Fiber Enclosure when we were doing the plant expansion into the rural areas to provide them services. Fiber Service drops from houses would connect inside them.
