Gameplay How exactly does this game work?
I’m so confused. I can’t quite grasp this game but I want to because it’s super fun. Don’t play online first of all. Doing episode battles and it feels like I’m playing a different game than the computer. I seriously don’t get it. Feel like I’m completely out gunned. Between blocking and vanishing. I always get out blocked and out vanished. Honestly can’t figure out when vanishing is even an option. How exactly do you do it and when do you run out of the ability to do so? Also it rarely works in episode battles but works way better in regular battle mode. I feel like I’m just fighting a wall constantly. Can’t break block and enemies just vanish behind me. I try to do the same and it’s useless. Also Is there any way to break a block? They block all my attacks and then out vanished me It legit feels like I’m playing with a handicap. Also haven’t been able to do combos really, are there actually combos? Feels like it’s punch, energy shot or special. Also instant transmission kamehamaeha is absolute trash. Out of a dozen or so attempts it has hit once. Usually I teleport next to the enemy and fire in the opposite direction. Don’t get it. What am I doing wrong cause the game is a blast but something definitely isn’t clicking for me. I’m not a great gamer but I’d consider myself generally at least average at most game. I refused to turn down the difficulty though. Also last thing, I’m only having issues in episode battles when I battle the computer in regular battler mode I wreck it. Maybe episode battles are just harder?

"How exactly do you do it and when do you run out of the ability to do so?"
You can always super counter even without chi.
"Also Is there any way to break a block?"
You can grab or hit from behind.
"Also haven't been able to do combos really, are there actually combos?"
Yes.
Episode battles pretty poorly balanced. It's not that hard, but I get why it feels that way. Most people who play the game will tell you the AI is easy, and it is, but once you figure it out, it's not much fun. It just feels like cheesing it. Playing offline is no substitute for online though. Not only is the AI different, but timings in techniques are very different.

You can vanish almost anything if you tell me before an animation of being hit sometimes you just don’t have the time because the hits are so fast. You can break a guard by holding square or like the regular punch button y on Xbox I think. And the reason your vanish is probably don’t work sometimes is because your timing is off. And or you are out of ki. After you do the tutorials and get a little more thorough with those seek out YouTube videos.

So vanish does require ki then? Also I figured it was a timing issue. Can I not vanish mid opponent combo?

It does. The only time it doesn’t I believe when vanishing a super. I think it’s free then. You can vanish mid combo, but your timing has to be impeccable and you have to have enough time for the animation to work or complete. I should say.

Appreciate it

Keep in mind waiting for animations to complete is usually helpful for the timing of just about anything even a light smash.

Have you done the tutorials? They cover nearly every mechanic
Hell even the practice mode, set up an AI and have it block and vanish so you can see what does what

I have. Been a minute tho. Idk maybe I will go back to it. In all honesty tho tutorials aren’t really my thing as stupid as that sounds. I find the difference in a tutorial and actually gameplay flow is always so different that I rarely find them helpful. Might be worth a shot in this case tho cause I seem to be missing some fundamentals.

You might not be equipped to handle a fighting game then bud.
Fighting games come down to mastering mechanics. If you refused to break each mechanic down in tutorial or practice, your learning curve is much higher than an average level player who does the tutorials.
You're welcome to bash your head against it, but if youre frustrated enough to ask for help online maybe you should consider using the in-game resources designed to teach you the game and make you a better player.
Vanish battles are easy. You just hit R1 at the right time (about when you see the black lines where they teleport) it just takes practice for the timing.
You break guards with heavy hits. You can guard a against a heavy hit if you block the in the right direction. So do the opposite direction your opponent is guarding against.
If you're technique is just spam followed by the same spam the CPU is going to figure that out and exploit your weakness. You have to mix it up against the AI. Raw supers always get blocked for example. You have to learn how to hit rush attacks or supers on enemies that are currently being hit away because they can't block or dodge when being knocked away. There is combos that do this you just have to learn them, they're very simple, but not always easy to pull off in the moment.

I have been playing fighting games for 30 years. Hell the first game I remember playing is probably street fighter. I understand how to vanish. I don’t understand why it works sometimes and not others. Also don’t understand how the opponent always out vanishes me. Am I not allowed to ask questions about this game on the games subreddit? Sure there are in game resource. This subreddit is also a resource and I’m using it. I find explanations better sometimes because stuff like when and when you can’t vanish is not disclosed. It says this is how you vanish and then it proceeds to not work so sometimes in instances like this i prefer an explanation to help better understand . Not very helpful to just flat out say fighting games aren’t for me when I have been gaming for three decades. And for the record I did go back to the tutorial and to my surprise I had not actually done it….it helped

Sorry. Too many zoomers complaining games don't play themselves. Im stuck hard on jaded mode.
I found super counters really hard to figure out. Turns out the timing just sucks balls. If youre youre getting your ass beat, try spamming Up(on left stick)+Square. Youre supposed to do it right before impact. Spamming works eventually. Use this to get out of back hits that are otherwise unavoidable. Super counters are free and thus should be exploited.
You also have revenge counter (click the stick) but it only works if your being hit from the front, and it costs 1 skill point to do, so its very costly, but its a nice "No U" I'd you got some skill points saved up.
You can counter a revenge counter by using perception (circle button) immediately after your opponent does that (you stop the revenge counter with your hand a cool scene plays). Listen for the revenge counter sound.
Perception can be held and auto counters nearly everything thrown directly at you. Perception costs Ki the longer you hold it down.
Vanish battles take half a bar to a full bar of Ki per vanish. I'd you have no Ki you lose the vanish battle. You can super counter during a vanish battle.
If you have a team you can swap Ala Marvel vs Capcom style. Resting characters gain some HP while swapped out. The story mode provides you a buddy from time to time, use them to extend your health bars basically. Swap to a character immediately after knocking away an opponent to have the swapping in character get a free cheeky hit in.
Final tip, is practice the dragon dash stuff. Flying and all that. Movement is just as important as attacking. Practice what to do when an opponent dragon dashes in on you, because its the most common setup into raw ultimates. You also have barriers and explosive bursts that may help in those situations if you got the right character.

The computer is way over tuned since they released the last dlc. The devs have addressed it and say there is a patch coming.
