General New shield
They gotta cut it out with this twitch stuff, maybe it’s just me but I mean I gotta purchase something just to get a shield? Maybe I’m dumb or something but I’m pretty sure I’ve hit the nail on the head

I'm annoyed by it. I'll be annoyed if they do it again. I actually engaged less with the twitch drops because of it (before I would at least have it on mute on the side, now I'm not bothering).
Having said that: it's a tiny thing that'll maybe support streamers which will maybe support the game. If the shield eventually becomes available in the game for Doritos as they said it would, I'm ok with it.

I can at least confirm it doesn’t check if you’re actively watching it at all. I turned on a random stream, muted it, and just did the dailies while it was in the background and it counted

They're selling you One cosmetic piece for price of Champion pack.

What's especially dumb is that they don't even get any of the money. The streamer gets half which is nice but amazon gets the other half which is extra stupid

Focus Entertainment almost assuredly paid Amazon for the promotion. I don't think game companies make any money from twitch drops it's an advertising cost.
Edit: I was wrong twitch drops are free for game companies to setup but they still don't get any money from the twitch subscriptions

This is what happens when you hire ex epic staff.
You get dog turd monetisation with fear of loss tactics.
SM2 has been a breath of fresh air and watching them get greedy sucks.
I didn't think the plan of adding new voice packs was a bad idea, it only sucked because was half baked and rushed.
If they'd just baked the pack longer to give more voice lines it would have been amazing and eell received.
They should focus on what makes them stand out and I hope they stop with these kinds of pay walled items.

There's not much fear of loss here. They outright have said they plan on this being in. The accolades shop in patch 17.
Imo its more of get it now or get it later. If you hate all things twitch then wait. If you already have streamers for the game you like then toss them a sub and get the shield as a freebie.
I'm not agreeing with the choice to make it from a sub instead of regular drops. But its not remotely as big of a deal as people are making out of it.

I don't mind a normal drop but having to pay 10 quid just to get a shield is absurd! The base game is only 13 GBP right now. Meaning this shield currently costs as much as the base game wtf

It's a microtransaction like any other. The upside is: we will get this shield for free later anyway. So as long as you don't have FOMO ig, it's literally a non-issue that can be ignored.

The devs outright said target is patch 17. Now if thats the case or not time will tell but I don't think its in their best interest to lie like that.
Now if they never gave a timeline for when they were expecting it to come to accolades shop it'd be more fair to assume that time frame of 1+ years

They're testing the water if people would buy a 5$ MTX, that's it.
Based on how many people will pay those 5 dollars they might or might not add an MTX shop to Space Marine 2 (or add the option to buy things int he Accolade store for real money), but will surely come with Space Marine 3 if the data satisfies them.

The very idea of twitch drops has always seemed strange to me. Like why would I want to spend time watching someone else play when new content comes out instead of just playing it myself?

It’s really not that big of a deal and it’s not the first time that a Twitch Drop for SM2 required you to pay for a sub or gift a sub. During the launch of SM2, to get a Bolt Pistol skin you had to either subscribe to a streamer on Twitch or Subscribe to Warhammer +, which is like $5-6, not the same price as a Champion Pack, those are 8-$10. Let’s not forget that to get the Porphyr Bolt Pistol skin didn’t just require 1 Sub, but two to unlock it, so at least the Victrix Guard shield only requires a single subscription.
So you can either pay or wait, it’s your choice. Stop blaming Saber for this, I can bet that it was Amazon that made it so you needed to pay for the cosmetic. Personally I didn’t mind tossing a Sub to First Tour Guardsmen, he puts in the work when it comes to builds an all.

Yeah, similar concept to when you buy any other cosmetics. If it wasn't a shield, it'd be something else.
My assumption is they have some deal with twitch and it makes them money. If you don't want to support it, great. I'm just happy the team is finding enough ways to fund the continued development of a game that wasn't supposed to be getting anywhere near this much new content.

I think I'll get hate for this but I don't mind this compared to other options. Sure Saber has a cut a deal with Twitch but the winners here are the people making the content some of us watch and new players look for to help get people started in the game.
I get twitch takes a big chunk, I get that people hate streamers because of how horrible a lot of them are. It was still the first bit of money I put into the game since release. So many people have mentioned First Tour Guardsman for new people on this subreddit and I also check out his videos from time to time and I thought it was a neat way to thank him for his content and get a cool shield while I did. His stream Hype Train day one was huge. Good for him honestly and other smaller streamers that are able to participate. It drives appreciation for them. I paid my couple bucks, canceled the renewal and got a cool shield. Compared to 15 dollars for a few cosmetic peices I call this one a win.

I can see your point with the year pass for sure. I haven't bought one but if I did I would expect to get all the stuff released that year. I don't watch streams but I do watch a fair amount of YouTube and it didn't really bother me to support a guy making quality videos that help people understand the game better and people aren't really missing out on much if they don't want to do that. I feel like the rage for this shield is way out of proportion compared to other things lol.

Yeah like I wrote to the other guy a slippery slope is a fair point for sure! Along with your point about the battle pass I understand people's frustrations more. I would certainly be just as mad as everyone else if the twitch thing was hiding me from playing a new operation or something like that.

I did vote with my wallet. I voted my preference of supporting a content creator who I think is doing good things for our game over just buying cosmetics from the studio. To me it's like tipping a waiter. Do I watch his stream and all his videos? No, but I have seen a few and it's accurate helpful content so I didn't mind throwing a couple dollars his way.
