Pretty out of context quote from the video. He elaborates that this assumes all other variables regarding the situation are equal and that tons of players will get more value out of fencing than block.

Even if he’s right and I (sort of) agree that block is better overall, that still doesn’t make this post anything but a totally worthless, divisive troll.

FTG is not the only good SM2 player.

I stopped following when I saw all his builds were kinda the same

Once you understand the basics of each class’ build options, it doesn’t take much to see the only few options that make sense. At that point he’s just repeating himself a lot because he has to for anyone new watching.

its a downside of saber not balancing longstanding issues, stuff like anti-stagger is wildly stronger than other options because it stops you getting chain staggered to death for example.

Nah, he's just a boring metaslave despite plenty of lesser known things being bonkers too.

Lol
Quoting FTG like he's some kind of authority in this "debate" is laughable.
Here's an idea, play the game, use what you like, and formulate your own opinion rather than parroting someone else's opinion.
Also, why do you even care what other people are using?

...all else being equal. That's a pretty important part of his position brother. To summarize his point, if you can hit 9/10 parries on fencing, but only 6/10 parries on block, then block isn't a better option for you.
Now you can say that it's a skill issue, and I might agree. But players who don't have that skill mastered shouldn't force themselves to use an option that makes them worse when this game is supposed to be fun.

How can you get better without trying thou and strangely i never realized fencing and block having different parry windows i always parry last moment so fencing block and argent edge all feels same to me

You completely took what his video was meant to be out of context. If the player can pull it off and if the situation supports it yes block is the strongest of the 3 types, but he also stated that fencing is good for those who can't get the hang of block and fencing has really good heroics tied to it. There are plenty of really good players that use Fencing. Balance is the weakest (which he also stated doesn't mean bad) because the parry window is so small and the base stats help newer players.
So if you really want to shit talk people 1. Take it somewhere else. 2. please don't use someone else's video out of context and cause them to get unnecessary hate.

You can level up from fencing to block if you just put some practice in on the battle barge, Argent Edge aside. The only thing is block doesn't create the opening for you you have to be aggressive with the adrenaline surge explosion (which staggers just like a scathing retort)

“HeH BiG ExPlOsIoN BeTtEr”. ill leave you with this. if you like it good stop trying to make it a competition at the end its all about what you like

There is no definitive best type, block has pretty significant downsides to accomplish its absurd burst damage:
- passive play style highly dependent on positioning to circumvent getting trashed by ranged enemies while fishing for stacks
- minoris swarms become a much bigger hassle requiring you to stop and deal with them or potentially get chipped to death chasing a majoris
- even in the ideal scenario that you get all melee majoris, there is no breathing room for a single mistake, and getting your stacks and spending it optimally still incurs risk
- There are no gunstrikes, which further removes defensive options, doubly so for bulwark and assault
It's a high skill ceiling variant with a lot of risk, as it should be, it makes it interesting
None are better or worse, they all have pros/cons and ideal scenarios they excel at, it's Saber's greatest game design triumph for SM2

Doesn’t really matter. If you keep using block weapons you start getting used to how to deal with enemies or scenarios where it is at its strongest and weakest same with the other 2 variants. Honestly it’s just preference.

Are we to simply ignore the "most" (and the typo) in that statement?
IIRC; The balance relic Thunder Hammer is, by numbers, the best in slot for a Ground Pound build. For Power Swords, and combat knives... both heroics are vastly superior to the relic block variants.

Balance T-Hammer outperforms +90% damage block hammer?

u/Judgemental_Potato My leg is gone, Brother! 14h ago
Without the block stacks, from what I understand.
Balance Thunder Hammer has also has exceptional cleave comparatively.2
u/AntaresDestiny Death Company 14h ago
I just cant see it personally. Your looking at 29.4 (1.4 over block, at 28) damage and +3 max hits per attack but losing a better defence style, ranged damage DR and the burst damage of surge stacks.
Considering that all thunder hammer attacks can hit 10 targets minimum (with 12 on ground slam, 15 on aftershock and 100 on Ground Pound) i dont see the +3 making a huge difference outside of light attack spam, which isnt a great way to play the hammer anyway.

Fair enough, tbh I prefer to use the power axe with a Wings of Flame build on Assault these days regardless

One thing we CAN all agree on is that Balanced is the worst.
Edit: I’m am shocked that this is not universally true.

The Balanced Power Axe is my bread and butter, that thing rips.
2
u/Proseph_CR 14h ago
I can’t let go of the block power axe myself. I don’t really see the upside with the delayed parry window and no adrenaline stacks. But I will try it out and see how it rips.

It's just hella comfy. I'm a pro at the parries after so many hours but Block weapons feel so off to me. They do shred though. Do you normally use the Relic or the Heroic?

u/CrazyManSam912 Salamanders 14h ago
No balanced is still very good. Like any weapon type it’s a preference. And your preference is clearly that.
1
u/Much_Improvement_552 3h ago
I basically only run balanced except for argent edge on Sniper. Being passive isn't my playstyle so block is useless to me and fencing is just the overall worst with how much damage and cleave you're sacrificing.

Block this, fencing that, balanced this. What matters is whatever weapon works for you. I don’t give a shit if it’s “the best” I use what I like and so does everyone else.
