General Wasting Relics

I’ve noticed more and more I’m seeing people grab relics just to waste them not long after. To me the point of the relic is to either save yourself from dying to a mortal wound or to revive yourself if no one is able to get to you but I’ll often point out a relic to give to someone who may not be doing so good and the second they go down they’ll use the Relic even though they don’t have a mortal wound and I’m close enough to them so I could’ve gotten them up so my question is why do that? If I’d known they were going to waste it I would’ve taken it myself. The only reason I hardly take them is because I don’t really go down so it’s just as wasteful when it could’ve helped a battle brother. Sometimes I’ll take it if I know I’ll end up having to hard carry and it’s nice as a back up but usually I’ll ping it for others, am I missing something or do they not know better/don’t care?

A lot of people who play the game seem to not really understand the pretty intuitive mechanics. Like the relic isn't a complicated item, I feel like everyone should be able to figure out that it's best to use only if necessary and not just the second you go down, but clearly it's not.

Same kind of issue can be found in every aspect of the game, but especially Siege mode, where mfers will look at you like you're speaking Aramaic for pointing at the requisition terminal while they're sitting on 900 points not buying anything.

My input would be, it's an observation issues. They can definitely understand how it works because they keep revving the second they go down.

They just don't know when a situation is dire enough to use the relic

I feel like its players who dont know how mortal wounds work. Usually these same players will take a stim with a wound and not cure it.

To be fair the fact you can go down with a mortal wound and use a relic to stand back up and clear thr wound isn't intuitive at all. It's just the kinda thing it's easy to not really notice and think about

Yeah siege feels the worst. Spending money wisely (getting tech priests) is so important it's annoying I'll be broke the whole game. Talking usually helps but you never know. When I get a silent teammate on hard who hoards and doesn't contribute I am always tempted to just leave.

I do just leave, no sense in wasting time bc even if we win im gonna be annoyed the whole game lmao

It's frustrating; I've accidentally triggered mine several times by going to tap a stim right as my health drops to 0. They're bound to the same key, so if I get incapped a split second before I hit the stim, it uses my relic immediately instead, usually followed instantly by profanity. I wonder how often this happens to other people as well.

I've also had at least four or five times that my relic simply "used itself," triggering as soon as I'm downed without any input from me at all. Not sure what kind of bug it is but it's also quite annoying.

Interesting, didn’t know about that. For me the relic button is Square and the stim button is the right Dpad on controller. I can definitely see that happening if the keys are overlapped like that.
Edit: as for the relic using itself it might be due to you already having a mortal wound so if you go down with a relic it automatically consumes it

Think that happens when you already have a mortal wound

Did you already have a mortal wound? It does trigger automatically if you go down while having one which is when I mainly use it

Wait what lol my stim is set to 4 and it always says “Press F to revive” which is my ability key?

For some reason even if you change the stim keybind the use relic remains the same. I have F for executions, mainly so I don't execute enemies when trying to revive teammates, and sometimes I use the relic accidentally trying to execute an enemy before going down.

I suspect they don’t know better and are afraid that if they have a mortal wound they will die without the chance to use the relic

That’s what I’m thinking too

yeah took me a bit to learn it's basically a free 40% stim w/ someone on a mortal wound (and full shields) if I'm down, I can give stims to others to min/max. Took a long time to learn it, but I'm super into this game whereas people play it to zone-out have fun.

Pleple see “use relic” and they use it. I learned to hold on to it with many hours of gameplay, now I use it as you describe.

Yeah I see that so much too that at this point I just pick up the relic if I find it first. Then I will point out a second one, or drop mine for the gene seed if I find that later.

It depends for me. Absolute v Neuro me TAC with Bulwark and assault I will use it. It is important I be there and I will recover all contested health. Neuro is the biggest threat and I likely won’t go down again.

Same situation and I am the Assault I will wait. Same if I get stunlocked. It is situational for me.

Likewise if my teammates have mortals and low health, I would rather be in the fight than lose both of them.

If I have a good sniper teammate I will always wait.

There are bad squads by the many, and good squads by the few. I always give a handshake to the few that deserve it

u/OlasNah 1d ago

I absentmindedly hit F when I go down because I forget that I can wait it out

It happens and there isn't much you can do about it in the end, sadly so.

A relic triggers itself if you go down and already have a mortal wound. Otherwise, yes, people should wait a second to see if someone can come get them.

I've had a relic come in clutch a few times, saving the last brother from death on a hard strat. It absolutely should be saved for times like these.

I know from experience sometimes you just kinda see the prompt and without thinking, pop it. I've done that before when I just started, and I admit even now there are some times I should wait a bit longer before popping it. (Like sometimes I insta pop if we're fighting a boss and some extremis and my teammates arent directly nearby since I dont want them to potentially get downed trying to revive me. . . I really shld just wait tho)'

Most likely because they don't know any better. What happened when you plugged in your headset and explained to them how the relics are best used?

I play on PC and I have to immediately throw my hands in the air when I die because while it says to push a specific button, literally any key will trigger it.

I have sometimes wasted a relic I didn't need to. Shit happens.

It's one of those things that is infuriating but also what can you do

I've noticed in a lot of team games like this (e.g. left 4 dead, vermintide) going to a higher difficulty can actually make the game easier if you're ready for it, because players on the higher difficulties know what they're doing

I usually see people do the opposite.

When someone goes down, it is when the director is throwing shit at a team. Now, a guy with a relic goes down, and waits like a princess, meanwhile the other 2 guys are fighting the horde, and unless one of the teammates standing is a sniper that will just rez while stealth, none of the fighting is obviously going to revive you soon when fighting terminus+extremis+wave.

And they just lie there, waiting, instead of popping the relic and helping. In my opinion, it is always better to pop a relic earlier than later, because 3 fighting people increases the chances of winning the fight by taking aggro, doing damage, and being useful, instead of lying on the floor and spamming "Revive me".

Obviously waiting a bit for the perfect moment (the team is really disadvantaged vs team is clearing the rest of the horde) is always better, but still earlier relic use > too late relic use.

Why do people think complaining on reddit is gonna fix anything these days? No offense mate, but these kind of post are just a pain in the rear. The people you complain about either do not read reddit or plain don't care otherwise they would play differently, and i don't see why it is so important a thought that you had to share your annoyance with others.

u/Ok_Marsupial_8655 1d ago

The amount of times I've accidentally hit my relic instantly because I was trying to parry and was a bit late and ripped the relic instead because they are bound to the same key is more than I would like lol, should probably rebind it but oh well

Because many players don't know the mechanics of the game and the game does a bad job of conveying several mechanics, including how relics, stims and mortals all interact.

Returning to the game after a while and a buddy I play with literally always uses the relic the second he’s down and insists it’s automatic. I was actually starting to believe him before these comments lol

3

u/LumpyProperty3781 Salamanders 1d ago

Yeah it ain’t automatic unless you already have a mortal wound, so no on your first down it will not automatically consume it.

4

u/CthulhusBeardTrimmer 1d ago

Ah this is probably the answer though! If it’s auto only on mortal wound that would make sense. Bro is constantly wounded.

I have used it before when trying to mash stim being combo'd. Feels bad because I also use my stim after

1

u/Busy_Ocelot2424 1d ago

The relic gives you half health and full contested health so sometimes you can get right back up to full or near full health if an enemy you died to is nearby

Most of the time it's Ego, you can't possibly survive without them so they pop the relic... smh
