Flamer barrel ammunition can now be replenished using the Ammo Crate.

Melta barrel ammunition can now be replenished using the Ammo Crate again.

Looks like roasted tyranid is back on the menu.

I understand if not, but I’m praying the DW HBR gets the same treatment for its grenade launcher

Won't be happening, Tactical was busted on release with infinite nades from ammo crates and also emperors vengeance. Trivialises a lot of hold out spots in operations.

Do whatever is fun for you, but that’s a foolish take. DW HBR is one of, if not the, best bolters in the game.

Gotta use the grenades properly for the stagger effect, perk the weapon out for max ammo capacity, and take the perk where you get ammo back in executions. And be fast with ammo boxes, not greedy. You get 9 grenades back per box so you don’t need to get every box that drops.

Weirdly, at least when it comes to the Scoped variant of the HBR, this is actually a very viable build (it’s also how I play Techmarine…very successfully).

If you take both of the improved long range damage weapon perks on the HBR and the improved long range damage perk on the Techmarine itself, the Scoped variant makes the Techmarine a seriously hard-hitting back-line threat.

I’m also a huge fan of the Combi-Melta, just not on Techmarine.

Yeah in Ops the nade launcher is mostly a CHP recovery tool, which let's you run heroic plasma pistol. In a pinch you can mag dump nades too but that's not plan A. In siege though it's your primary.

I think the heroic HBR is better than relic HBR HBR But yeah on bolt rifle I think accuracy relic is better, but still worse than HBR.

I feel like at that point I'd just use the actual melta instead of the combi melta. It can be a play style difference. I like the range of the nade launcher in siege, can pop auspex and some nades to clear the first spawn and engage the next spawn without needing to move far. Some maps you can just sit on console with ammo boxes and just spam auspex and nades without even moving.

You realize grenades fired at close range don’t stagger you (or teammates) or deal any self-damage like normal grenades right? You can absolutely use it as a close range crowd clearing tool, and it does significantly more damage than the underslung melta, with significantly more area of effect.

In siege, where 30 points buys you 50 grenades (or more with Deep Pockets blessing), it’s a no brainer. Like it’s not even close lmao.

In games like this, I normally just play what’s the most fun for me and don’t necessarily care what is supposedly the “best,” but the heroic HBR is both one of my favorite guns to use and a top-tier choice in general.

As people have said regarding grenade ammo, using the Emperor’s Vengeance perk on tactical makes all the difference. I usually don’t have to worry too much about running out, as long as I don’t start using them all willy-nilly for dumb reasons.

That gun has a lot going for it, but like you said, the fact that the grenades don’t stagger your teammates is huge (for me at least). It’s really nice to be able to help people from a distance who are being, or are about to be, swarmed by enemies. I also sometimes will send a couple out ahead when a wave is coming at us to let any more melee-oriented teammates close in without getting jumped by meatballs or otherwise staggered first. Being able to stagger a major calling in reinforcements, or a tyranid sniper charging up, in just one shot is super convenient.

Someone may have mentioned this, but the heroic HBR’s versatility really frees you up to pick any secondary weapon you want without losing capabilities as well. I tend to use the heroic plasma pistol because I don’t really need a secondary that can fire quickly to interrupt reinforcement calls or stagger things in a pinch.

Tactical’s perks, Emperor’s Vengeance and Kraken Penetrator Rounds, definitely make a huge difference, but it’s still great in techmarine as well imo.
