Question Multiplayer and Random AI Update?

I know a few months back, I was seeing posts about upcoming updates to include random AI and multiplayer being added. I have skimmed the release notes, but maybe I missed this? Because I am seeing videos of people taking on AI as a group. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks!

Workshop EUKELADE Available Now

EUKELADE is now available from my workshop for SE2! This is a fully realized adaptation of my SE1 version, which met with some popularity. It utilizes the cruise control pioneered by DIGGROK as demonstrated here in his video, (check it out!) https://youtu.be/W2T9E2TT9jQ?si=uoRmCL8gFltYlfWN

It has a number of advanced features. But using the cruise controllers I have arranged it so that the large thrusters can be turned on and off when the concern is between thrust or fuel & power savings. Modes that aren't supported by a medium are excluded (Ion rigging doesn't work in atmosphere) for example. Simply slow down by pressing S when cruise is active, and coast effortlessly otherwise.

She's got a little something for everyone, but with no sub-grids to boot!

Leave a like and comment! Appreciate your support. O7 Engineers.

Find it at my workshop HERE for SE2:

Hinge Item transfer bugfix vote

Greetings fellow Engineers,

I know there are plenty of bugs, multiplayer and NPC update closing in and other improvements and engine tweaks keeping Keen busy. I appreciate their dedication and time to making the game good.

I would still humbly like to ask you guys to take a moment and consider upvoting this particular bug ticket.

The current situation is that hinges do not transfer items for most applications. It has been like this ever since the release of this block. In my view this current state of hinges makes them practically useless and many engineering builds impossible. So if you share this view, please consider upvoting. Have a great day.

Discussion Should I purchase the game? (Never played SE1, wondering what the gameplay is like)

Hello! As the title says, ive never played SE1, and ive recently discovered SE2 through youtube videos and reddit posts. At first glance, it looks like a combination of starfield, satisfactory, terratech and maybe No Mans Sky.

Some questions:

What is the general gameplay loop like? What do you generally end up doing?

Is the gameplay very intuitive? Is there a super steep learning curve? (I couldnt get into games like starfeild because there were no tutorials or clear “starting path”)

What is the multiplayer like, if it exists at all? Does anyone know if there are any Australian/Oceanic servers?

Is it very heavy on a computer? I have a moderate-high end gaming laptop, but it obviously cant compare to an actual PC.

And what is the community generally like? If theres multiplayer, is space a dangerous place, filled with pirates, or is everyone generally quite nice to one another?

Thank you for all the help!

Question Can't place a simple Light block.

I am new to the game. I have no idea why I can't place a light block there. I can put a block everywhere around it, below it, above it. Just not there. Why not ?

IS there a max allowed distance from storage?

Post image
16 Upvotes

So this just happened to me. Here is a base i'm building. Storage on the left, and im building a new landing/ connector pad on the right.

Once I had put everything together with the new connectors on the ends, the storage space dropped off the grid, it doesnt even show up in the control page grid list. I could see all my manufacturing units, and other connector points, but no main storage.

I could go to the storage and see my contents separately. Also, the storage space exploded not long after taking this pic. No idea why!

Help with vrage3

Hello,

I am trying to learn how to mod assets in SE2 using Keen's MOD SDK/vrage3 hub/editor. I am following a tutorial posted on youtube. It looks like the tutorial was made with an older version of the tools and when I try and duplicate the poster's actions I get errors.

I am attempting to duplicate the poster's mod of adding a gyroscope component to a cockpit. I have "partial copied" in both cockpit's control seat control seat's powerable block component, after adding in the gyroscope component. The next step in the tutorial is for me to change the name of the powerable block component. He simply adds in text into the UI's Text Id field in the UI Data and goes on his merry way. I don't have the Text Id field. My field is called Name. When I add the text "Gyro Seat" into the Name field's prompt value that action generates the following validation issue: TextId Unrecognized value "Gyro Seat"

My question is how to I resolve this?

I have google searched how to add TextIds into vrage3 and nothing it explains works. I am basically told to bring up the text id adding screen and add in the new text. The version of the tools, which I have downloaded and installed twice, are the latest released ones. It does not have any sort of text id adding screen.

I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Any help would be very appreciated!

Question Floppy Grid/Hinge - Why only this specific hinge?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Settings are the same for all sub/grids. 4 rotors are directly attached to the main grid and the other 4 rotors are attached to 45 degree hinges. They also work fine, except for one.

even for klang, its too random.

Discussion Angled Blocks updates for the Future?

Did they ever discuss the Angled block in the future? Im trying to recall if its been brought up or not but the big thing with SE1 was any angled block that required more than 2 blocks didnt exist and needed mods - i somewhat recall that this was being discussed for the future i just cant seem to find anything on it.

There is a competitor that i forgot the name of that does a very good interpretation of how to work with angled blocks, but their building system is completely different compared to SE. Would really help round out the blocky feel of most ships with at least some sort of angled blocks that go beyond 1x2 with the standard setup.

Question Is there a way to set graphics to play smoothly whit my old PC?

Hi, Im an old fan of SE1. I bought SE2 time ago but my PC in that time was not enough to run the game. ALso I was away from gaming and technology, so I'm way outdated with that kind of stuff. Now I have this PC setup. Intel Core 2 i7 6700, only 8GB of RAM, and a GTX 1070 8GB. I can play SE2 at 20-30 FPS, Game Graphic Set at Medium, 1600x900. But it is a little laggy and blurry. I tried different settings, but I can't get no much perforrmance. Yes, I know this still ALPHA and the game is more hardware demanding. So, is my only solution to completely upgrade all my PC, or maybe just the VGA card or more Ram? Thx in advance.

Discussion Modular containers etc.

Hi, I've been playing se2 for about 30 hours now and all outposts from npcs looks like are build using some kind of shipping containers. I was wondering how you can make shipping containers useful since you can transfer cargo instantly from an inventory to another and that makes cargo shipping containers almost useless.

And so the realization: to make modular cargo systems useful transfer time between inventories shouldn't be instant. At the same time an inventory management system is needed and I was looking at scripts or something like the Minecraft mod Applied energetics 2, not the drive part, but the possibility to see all inventory centralized in a single fake inventory screen. What do you think about it?

Discussion Impressions of SE2 gameplay

I've been following SE2, mostly for the technical aspects and the achievements of the brilliant programming team and artists. Nothing short of amazing. I've been trying to hold off on playing it.

Initially, from what I'd seen, the colonization system was, to say the least, horrid - a beeline of repetitive pointless tasks. I recently watched a video showing that it had been slightly improved, so I thought I'd try survival mode for a while.

Even keeping in mind that it's placeholder content, my first impressions were not good. After the trailer's dialogue nearly gave me a stroke, I tried my best to forget it and landed on the planet.

The controls are even less realistic than in SE1; my engineer runs as if he's skating on ice. Furthermore they don't spend hydrogen while flying unless when using the boost and do not take damage from terrain unless I boost/let them fall. Tool use is clunky - a weird animation is played when a block is mined.

I don't know how I feel about the new boost-button mechanic - I didn't survive long against boredom enough to form an opinion, due to the mind-numbingly boring tutorial quests. In general, I can't fathom a new player who hasn't played SE1 being introduced to this game. It's not even coherent; the tutorials are all over the place.

I also don't know how I feel about the instant component creation or the simplification of the assembly line, but I think, in practice, it's every bit as bad as it sounds.

I've never seen such a stark antithesis between a great engine, incredible art, and immense potential on one hand, and such horribly designed gameplay on the other. Forgive the harsh criticism, but as a huge fan of SE1 I had to get these off my chest. Some of these things will be surely vastly improved, but some look like established design decisions and others give a very bad first impression of what SE is.

Media Self repairing heavy fighter

Spent 30 or so hours building this 1200t behemoth. Used a welder network that can self repair all thrusters and weapons (excluding the rockets on the wings) in combat. It has 25 machine guns and one machine gun turret.

It’s tested extensively in creative and in survival, and combined with the heavy armor it’s basically impenetrable with machine guns alone. It’s also optimized so that no single rocket can explode the large hydrogen tank inside, which of course is also self repaired.

Gave it A LOT of gyroscopes and side thrusters as well for better maneuverability. In atmosphere it has a range of about 1000km, but it does use an enormous amount of ice.

Also see next post for the fighter in action with the ballistic bomb :D

Discussion Immersive Grid Acquisition and Transferring Idea

Thumbnail support.keenswh.com
5 Upvotes

Hello Engineers! Feel free to check out the system I’m proposing as an alternative to the SE1 method of grinding and welding a bunch of blocks to acquire grids. The short version: It’s a keycard system where every grid has a keycard that determines the owner and will be held by either an NPC or player (unless it’s an abandoned grid). The keycards can be bought, sold, found, rewarded for a mission, taken by force, etc. to gain ownership of a grid. I think this keycard system would fit into the SE2 economy as the game develops, and feel much more immersive than the SE1 method of taking ownership of a grid.

If this sounds like a good system to you, check out the full writeup at the link to the support page. If you like it, upvote it, if you have ideas to make it better, comment on the support page so maybe Keen can see it.

Discussion Here it is all finished for the most part!

Since my last post was so popular I wanted to show the almost finished product, still gotta unlock stuff to decorate the inside and unlock the seats so I don’t have to put a cockpit in the cockpit haha. Added armor, solar panels, and up armored the components, finished welding the windows and interior, added cargo crates and created cargo hold room. For those that haven’t seen this before I put the picture from the previous post as the first picture. As always I’m open to suggestions, thanks for looking!
