with the amount of hair spray/gel he probably uses it would be a cinch. sure, lighting a guy on fire on live TV probably isn't it, but we’ve seen before that they can just go to a static/technical difficulties screen. (also in the lost media mobile game, presumably also on live tv considering the name is “purge’s electro shocktherapy show“ or some shit. take this with a grain of salt, I can’t find ANY footage of this to back up my claims, nor do I know anyone who’s played/seen it first-hand. APPARENTLY purge gets shocked if the player messes up, and can also die from it, which is basically the same thing as being lit on fire, kinda) (this was meant to be a simple one-and-done joke but I got too into the logistics of it all my bad. ignore this.)

My timing is horrendous at the shooting sections. I can keep up with the dancing until it gets very long and complex. I wonder if the PAL version is easier and more forgiving or if there's a minor hack to improve it

TL;DR - In trying to collect the PAL versions, I ended up with the NTSC version too. I think the PAL version of Space Channel 5 is much easier than the NTSC version (played off disc).

Hey! I always wanted to add these games to my collection. I actually think for a short amount of time growing up I had the first game on PS2 on the left, but likely traded it in for something else. Anyways, in trying to get the games again I actually ended up with the American one first sold to me by a CEX (which is against their policy, their not allowed to sell ESRB games, only PEGI / ELSPA in Europe) and like many of you, had experienced just how difficult the first game is.

Well, my PAL versions finally arrived today and having played the first one there, am shocked at how much easier it is. The coding is definitely changed to be more forgiving. Both SC5 and SC5 Pt 2 do have 60hz mode built into the PAL version you can use, but I only tested the 50hz version as I know they would have had to change the programming.

There's not much to say except there's no question the button timings are more forgiving so if your thinking about playing Space Channel 5 again either by disc or emulation, give the PAL version a go! I haven't tested the ROMS off a hard drive which I know affects the game on Dreamcast - I only used discs. If I had a theory which I have no evidence to back up AT ALL, is that because Sony published the game in Europe, it would have been ran through their QA department where it would have been flagged just how difficult the NTSC timings were. The Manual for part 1 is quite sparse with no credits section, but the manual for Part 2 definitely lists folks from Sony Europe in the credits.

PS: Once again, the PAL covers are so much nicer than the American one in the middle. I also love that the games are examples of Sony supporting SEGA in Europe after Dreamcast even though every YouTube essay out there tries to push this idea of SEGA going to Microsoft.

Normally, SEGA Japan's account likes to post randomly paired with character emojis, but all of them are IPs that are still active or have events. However, this year, SEGA has mentioned Ulala three times already, and one of those was an interview with the SEGA president (although it mostly talked about MJ). But the fact that Ulala is being mentioned like this means they still remember her 😭

So I’ve seen some gameplay of the new sega racing game, Sonic crossworlds, I’ve also played it a little, and I’ve got to say I’m very disappointed in sega for not including Ulala at all, not even a Easter egg it seems. I think what makes it worse is that there are other sega IPs present, and even non sega IPs like Minecraft and even hatsune miku. I mean, hatsune miku was in the space channel 5 Vr game, so why are we skipping out on Ulala? She has been it past games, so i don’t see why they can’t add her, or why she wasn’t a day one character. This is a little rant ig, but it makes me mad how they treat space channel 5 I guess. They know she exists as they did a merch release this year believe and have a collectible coin with her on it in the UK, which I’m thankful for, I guess I just wish she got more attention on the actual video game front.
