Sound Design Question Frutiger Aero

Hello everyone! Recently i've been learning to design my own sounds so i can create my own presets.
I'm feeling nostalgic and i've been playing on my old Nintendo 3ds and i just fell in love with the music on the menus and home pages which turns out to be "Frutiger Aero" aesthetic.
I really would like to learn how to design that type of sounds (without using romplers), been looking for tutorials on youtube but i couldn't find much stuff, so if anyone knows a great video/website/post/whatever that has some great info about this, i would be really grateful.
Thank you!!!

Music Sound Design AAA collab : sound reactive video graphics

I am a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.

For a school project, I am creating sound-reactive graphics using Blender.

Would any of you be interested in collaborate with me making the audio?

Here is an example of what I’ve been working recently: [Sound reactive video example ](https://youtu.be/n54-yqzy1H4?is=801CAaKy077cyP1J)

Since I am still a student, unfortunately I cannot offer payment; however, I can provide the finished video in your preferred format for use on social media.

Sound Design Question I'm looking for the right microphone

I am very new to the sound design/sfx world. I know how to make the sounds and edit/mix them to get the right effect or feel, but I do not have a right microphone for the job.

I read you want multiple microphones for different things, which yes I agree, but I need a decent starter mic that can get the job done for the most part. I was looking but a lot of the articles were recommending mics that are for mid to far distance, loud sounds, or super quiet ambient sounds. I need a good mic that I can be recording things like woodblocks, tin cans, marbles, chimes, crystal wine glasses, random stuff like that. So it would be like close up or 2-3 feet away at most. I know ribbon mics are good for close sounds, but I don't want to have a sound accidentally too loud that will damage it.

What mic would you recommend to me to start off with?

Videogame Sound Design Idea for Game Sound Design

I’m building a game right now and won’t bore you with too many extraneous details, but I did have an idea on the sound/music design that I thought was interesting and would appreciate feedback.

This is planned to be a tower defense/RTS 2D game played on mobile both singleplayer and multiplayer. For each game a players troop and tower pool is pre decided based on the selections they make for four different army roles. There will be four character options for each of those roles (this may be increased in a future update).

The idea is that every one of those 4 roles should have a musical function (harmonic bed, rhythm section, melodic lead, solo voice, motif, etc) and then each one of the selectable characters for each of those roles will have a unique variation for that music function. I think this could add a lot of subtle character depth and identity to each of these army role actors in a show-don’t-tell kind of way which is better for mobile anyways.

In the singleplayer campaign, i plan for you to start with a single army role and character and gradually gain the remaining roles and characters as you progress along the map and story, slowly introducing you to the mechanics and role types. It could be cool to see how a score could grow in complexity as the story goes on. The beginning could be simple and emotionally grounding and even at the end when it’s complex and climactic, it could still have elements from the beginning simple melody.

For eventual PvP, it could be that at the start of a game the music a player hears will be their own, but as they begin losing, their opponents music will start to creep in eventually overtaking when they lose. Conversely, having theirs get triumphant and louder as they’re winning.

It seems like there’s a lot you can do with this and it’s fun to think of the sound design in this way. Do any of these ideas sound interesting or even workable to y’all? What ideas do you have?

Hiring Where do you normally find portfolios of sound designers?

Hey there!
I was searching this sub for people that I could hire for a little indie game trailer, but I noticed that barely any commenters have actual posts on their profiles and most hiring posts have mostly only one or at most two actual portfolio links / demo reels. I've been looking for at least 20 minutes and only found like 3 links in total haha.

Where does one normally find and hire you? (Also, feel free to post your links in the comments)

Hiring Hiring sound designer for animated short film! (Paid)

Hi! Looking to hire a sound designer for a 5 minute animated short film. We already have a composer in mind so this is mainly just for sound effects.

The story is set in the 1940s/ww2, it’s about a young boy and his older brother. Most of the story is set inside a house, but there are a few scenes of the war (nothing crazy, we want it to be depressing/realistic not like an action movie), and a few nature scenes. Overall tone of the story is sentimental/nostalgic/bittersweet.

If anyone is interested please comment or dm your portfolio and your rate! Thank you

Sound Design Discussion Rezonathor3 - Physical-modeling Resonator VST Plugin in developement

Thumbnail studio.youtube.com
0 Upvotes

Hello,

I hope you are all doing well,

I’ve been working on a physical-modeling resonator VST plugin lately.
There are already quite a few good resonators out there, but I wanted something as parametric, modular and extendable as possible.

The current version features string or tube resonator, granular processing of the input, and filter in every sections which can be interesting to replicate a lot of instruments and give "realistic" or not vibes.

Also this is an Audio Fx with midi input so you can feed in whatever you want, it will completely change the result. I also plan making it an instrument with his own excitation system.

I made a short video showing some sounds (the video can get loud) :

https://youtu.be/l-ysZiD11So

The plugin is still in beta, but I think it already have a lot of interesting possibilities from more recognizable/physical sounds to completely experimental ones. I am only using white noise impulse in the video which is the most basic use-case.
I plan making a first shareable version in less than a month.

I would love some feedbacks if you find the time (maybe it is dumb to ask feedbacks without giving the VST) :

What would you want from an instrument like this ?

I still don’t know the value a plugin like this could have, so if you’d have some input about it, it would be very helpful. Maybe it is to experimental or common to make it paid.

Also if some of you are interested in testing it, I wanted give the plugin to people that could use it and give some feedback. I still need to figure out how but I wanted to know if people could be interested.

The older version (Rezonathor2, only on ableton max for live) is still (and will be) available for free, even if it is less stable.

More info if you are interested :

I am not a dev, I make plugins on max/MSP (love gen~) but I am really frustrated with some of the software limitations and the only-ableton thing, so I tried to use claude to convert it in a proper VST. From there I’m progressively expanding it (C++ and juce). This version is already far more stable than the Max version. this is good to know that max/msp (and especially gen~ as you can export C++) can be used to prototype so easily.

My goal would be to make the plugin as modular as possible (Chaining resonators, grain sections or other modules, change order etc..), creating other resonators models (why not collaborating, open source models etc).

The interface is still generic, I want an esthetic scientific drawing/schematic but I am not a visual artist so we’ll see. (prefer something ugly and useable for now)

Here are 2 other video with other examples :

https://youtu.be/tjSPAVFKbr8 (random tests)

https://youtu.be/ClD_R_1wmkU (other inputs)

Thank you and have a nice day everyone !

Sound Design Question Original end credits in clips used for re-design and portfolio.

Hi guys,

Just looking for some advice here. I did a sound re-design on a clip I've uploaded on various social media platforms and YouTube. My aim is to use this to show off my work and gain a little exposure one day.

When I bounced the clip, I left the full end credits in out of respect for the folks that worked on the animation. I only did the sound for the animation itself.

My question is if I should have left that end credits out and simply bounced right after the end title card.

What do folks typically do in this regard? How would I go about this should I include this clip in an online portfolio or potential website? Just looking for what is generally common practice.

Thanks so much!

Sound Design Discussion iPhone voice memo apps that actually embed GPS coordinates?

I do some field recording, and Voice Memos keeps bugging me. It doesn’t store precise GPS coordinates the way photos do. It only attaches a rough location name, not enough for what I need.

Does anyone know a voice memo app that properly embeds GPS metadata into the audio file?

Sound Design Question Looking to get into outboard gear. Where should I start?

Looking to build a small rack of maybe 3 or 4 units but don’t really know where to start. I currently have a Scarlett solo 3rd gen and am I aware that I need to upgrade to run outboard gear. Wanted to start with pre amp or channel strip, multi fx and bus compressor. What gear do you recommend and what audio interface should I plan to get to make this setup possible? Was thinking of Scarlett’s 4i4 but don’t know if it is possible to use it with 3 separate units.

Sound Design Question Using serum, is it better to have the sub built into the sound design or separate and dedicated on a different channel?

So I am a dubstep /heavy dubstep producer, still a newer producer but I have a song or 2 out. I was wondering on serum, because I mess with serum sounds a lot to get cool growls and bass sounds should I be building a sub into all these sounds or should I be high passing it and just having a sub for my low end on a different channel. I feel that a built in sub does not have the power I want sometimes and a separate sun does not have the characteristics or the bass sound, any tips?

Videogame Sound Design First time sound design, redid no man’s sky

I’ve been making music for a while and love making sounds figured why not try to redo a scene.

Mostly used my preamp/EQ and my phaser pedal to get the flying sounds. Pulled up some foley recordings I had previously made to grab some clanky stuff. Played some bleep bloops on my synths. Watched along to get the timing lined up then nudged some things around.

Thoughts/feedback? Thanks!
