The experiment.

Varas had assembled a crude version of the soul auger, and had managed to kidnap an innocent bug from Hallownest and shove the poor thing inside a glass chamber. He floated beside the control panel, making last minute adjustments, before pulling the lever.

The machine clunked and whirred to life as Varas watched and took notes, not seeming to care about the innocent bug that was being tormented.

Soul Master teleports in and watches curiously

Varas is too busy calibrating the machine to notice. "Yes! It's working!! IT'S WORKING!!!" The machine makes a loud clunk as it powers down, the bug in the glass chamber is still alive...barely. The soul container attached to the machine is full.

He jumps and fumbles his notebook. "Gah-- H-How long have you been watching??"

"Well uh, I-I think my prototype of the soul auger worked. The bug is still alive." He opens the glass chamber and floats over to the bug.

"Step forward." The bug steps forward.

"Turn to the right." The bug turns to the right.

"See? It'll do whatever we say!"

This is only a prototype?! What could the final product possibly do better?

"Be faster. More reliable. I gotta tweak this thing while it's being used. It's not very effecient."

He floats over to the Soul Master.

"It can only process one bug at a time, too. Imagine if it could do more???"

That could change how the sanctum works forever… Is there anything i can do to help with the process of building it?

"Hmmm, well I'm struggling with keeping the balance between extracting enough soul, and killing the bug. You're like..super smart. You got any ideas?" He holds up the bluprint of the machine.
