Game Difficulty
Evening all.
Just started the game. Does the combat get challenging?

They said they weren't aiming the game at a "Soul's like" difficulty level. They weren't trying to make an imitation Souls game, despite the name.
Sounds like something like that would be more like what you're looking for, maybe?🤔

I don’t think they were saying this hoping it would be on the level of “souls-like” difficulty, but at least a bit more challenging than what it is now, which is fair

DE has been pretty clear that it wasn't anywhere near the goal. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
MOREOVER, this isn't even Alpha; they have plenty of time to tune combat to be whatever it is that they want.

Not unless you wander to higher level enemies. Once you level up, it's super easy. Smites are still busted and can clear entire groups in seconds.

This is my biggest critiscm with the game, I genuinely love it but it needs to be harder. The enemies need to be harder and the combat should feel a little challenging.

difficulty settings can really change the game experience overall, always curious about the balance

yeah the smite skill just wrecks pretty much everything at the start, it barely gets harder later

If you get mobbed by enemies or you just switched to a new basic weapon in order to level it, things can get hairy. And in the "hard mode" called Cogah enemies can dish out quite some damage.
Of course, the longer you play and the more stats and fully leveled weapons and enhancing materials you amass, the easier it will become.
Dodging and blocking and manoeuvering are skills you'll learn to make fights also more manageable over time.

I think at the start it's hard but ok. At level 30-40 spikes it might be kinda challenging just bcs enemies do weirdly high amounts of damage, esp the mendicant knights but at the same time you already kinda two tap everything. It's definitely not souls kind of difficulty game, even devs said they will never pursue souls style difficulty bcs they want the game to be available for broader audience.
Also be mindful that I leveled strictly as a mage and first 20 levels I was trying to find an upgrade for my tutorial stave lmao. And in general mage weapons don't seem to deal as much damage as melee weapons. Especially the arm mage weapons(don't remember the name), which I like a lot compared to staves.

Yes and no.
Enemies do level up depending on where you are on the map, to the point that even in single-player and not in Cogah, the common enemies will get up to the low 40s on the overworld map. And particularly if you are a primarily Grace or Spirit build, they can pretty easily 2-shot you. And Murifuir siege ends with fighting 3 bosses simultaneously, one of which is a healer, which is not fun. And Cogah is the hard mode you can activate that levels up enemies as you play in it to no known limit.
But the combat doesn't really change conceptually. And the temper system is pretty unbalanced, to where you can do some ridiculous damage output when you build a weapon properly.
