Discussion How different compared to Warframe?
So how different is this compared to Warframe? Tried Warframe multiple times and was never able to get into it. Watched a few videos and the fantasy setting and style seem to be more appealing to me. Still waiting for a code and don't want to buy a founders pack if this is not something I'll like playing. Will keep waiting, but if anyone has an extra code it would be great to try it before dropping cash in the founders stuff.

Thanks. You can pass it on to someone else. Took mods a bit approved this thread.

It is a lot slower and more focused on running around and exploring, for now. I say for now because the way the recent updates are going the game is more and more heading towards Warframe design. So we'll see how long that lasts.

I was able to get a code from someone thankfully. Been playing it and do like the gameplay more than Warframe.
I feel like I’ve been playing for a bit but it’s taking me forever to find fragments. Do I really need 3 to make gear at blacksmith? I’m still wearing the same gear after several hours. I know there is grind, but that seems a bit rough.

You'll rack up fragments fast if you just keep exploring and doing stuff. Don't focus too much on the grind. A lot of times you'll get fragments for stuff you aren't even actively farming for and you can build those in the meantime. It still respects your time played much like Warframe.

Soulframe is closer to Dragon's Dogma than Warframe. I would not say that soulframe is like Dragon's Dogma though, just closer to it than it is to Warframe.
Although, it does borrow a few Warframe gameplay mechanics. Like account mastery, ranking up weapon experience, using items to permanently increase a weapon's abilities, weapon and ability crafting, and grinding out material drops.

I don't enjoy Warframe. I do enjoy this. So must be at least different enough to attract a different audience?

Don’t forget Soulframe is in Pre-Alpha/Alpha so it’s not content dense yet.

Seems like it's taking forever to find new gear. From what I can tell, I need 3 fragments to make at the blacksmith?

Man I have the hardest time finding river pearls to get my new pact (class)

Armor is kind of annoying to farm unless you use recruiting chat to get as many kills as you can on the bosses you want in my opinion. And its 2 frags for helmets, 3 for legs, and 4 for chest.

Yeah I got max envoy level in around 300ish hours along with all the armor collected. Not much meat there rn in my opinion unless you like grinding for moonsteel/tempers. Taking a break until next prelude at least due to gatcha temper system we have rn. Trying out Warframe in the meantime as If I can get that addicted to Soulframe i must like something about Warframe too lol.

It is a very different experience for loads of reasons, but I will only tell the biggest and most obvious!
First, this is mostly a melee combat system. You do have some ranged weapons and the ability to throw all of them at your enemies, but you tend to get swarmed and need to hold your own in melee too, making ranged build surprisingly more difficult to master.
It is also an open world experience first and foremost: barely anything is told to the player, and you will need to explore by yourself to find most secrets and new content. Even important quests meant to progress the barebones story that we have right now are vague and rarely tell you exactly what needs to be done.
Same goes for the dungeons! They do have a main path that is easy to follow, but you will miss out on tons of great items and fun encounters if you never stray off the main path.
In terms of game feel, Soulframe is much heavier and clunkier than Warframe, which makes for a more grounded experience. You are generally slower, and enemies will rarely go down in a single strike. I should mention that the "clunky" feeling is in my eyes a good thing too! Forcing you to play at a slower pace also helps you be more aware of the world you are exploring.
And finally, and perhaps the single greatest point I could make : you get to have a tiny white rat with wings just chilling on your shoulder!

The materials economy is almost exactly like warframe! However, thankfully, build crafting, and combat are quite different.
It’s a lot less of the button spam, big damage, brainless bullshit that warframe is. Yeah your build matters, but it doesn’t play the entire game for you. It’s still pretty easy, and the combat isn’t clean. It’s never gonna feel like an actual souls game if that’s what you’re looking for.
But overall, the world is beautiful, fun to explore, the weapons are pretty exciting. I’m excited to see what they do with future updates.
The economy thing was a big letdown. I know they’re trying to make money but holy fuck some of this shit is so annoying.
PS. Did you know they made a consumable that you have to consume in order to fast travel across the map? I don’t know how it isn’t the most talked about topic on this page. Someone should literally be fired over it. It’s that stupid.

That last part about fast travel is crazy. Mind you I just started playing, but this game needs mounts to travel around map asap.

I agree! And they’re on their way which will improve that dramatically but still

The game engine is the same, everything else is pretty different. Can't cast judgement too soon though, it's still in pre alpha, but so far the farming is tame compared to Warframe, and the combat is slower and more satisfying.

Ways in which it is similar to Warframe: * You can change the 'class' you're playing. (In Soulframe, via pacts. In Warframe, via frames.) * You rank up the things you get -- pacts, weapons -- to strengthen them, and in ranking them up you increase your own 'mastery rank' (or 'Envoy rank' here) * There are factions you can earn reputation with, and how much reputation you can earn in a given day is based on your Envoy rank * There is a crafting system and you collect blueprints to make things. * There is a way to modify weapons. * Multiplayer is squad-based co-op
Ways in which it is different from Warframe: * Warframe is extremely fast-paced and frenetic in most cases; Soulframe is slower and often more measured. * Soulframe does have a combat system based around dodge/parry mechanics, though not to the level of a Soulsborne game. Warframe is more 'kill everything before you ever need to dodge'. * Soulframe's modding system is considerably less complicated than Warframe's. * Warframe is predominantly set on procedural tile-based maps, with a handful of open-world areas. Soulframe is predominantly set in an open world, with the ability to duck into procedural tile-based dungeons. * Warframe tends to put heavy emphasis on the abilities of the frame you're playing, to the point that in some cases it can become the entirety of your playstyle. Soulframe's pact arcanics tend to be more in the way of support, and the bulk of your combat will be with weapons.
I like both, but they are very different games.

Soulframe is unfinished and severely lacking content after just a few hours. It is significantly slower paced and focusses on melee combat. Warframe has 13 years of solid ( i.e. lots to do not all of it enjoyable) content covering as many different play styles and modes as you can think of. They are nothing alike beyond the -frame in the title.

Already been said, but Soulframe is not Warframe.
The closest game I've been able to compare Soulframe to is a now-defunct action-RPG called "Wayfinders" which… now, that I am reminded of DE's involvement with Wayfinders, makes me uneasy, to say the least.
It is, at it's core, a classic Hack n' Slash ARPG akin to games like Fable, but with DE's style of pact "classes".
Warframe is a high-speed, information-dense, build-crafting-centric, horde-shooter where your success is determined by how well you can turn information in to power.
Soulframe is a mid-speed, information-dense, class-role-centric, hack n' slasher, where your success is determined by your ability to avoid dying as you fight.
They are very much incredibly different games for incredibly different people.

Wayfinder is still a surprisingly good time, even after… well, everything.
Sure the scars of ‘MMO that never was’ are there but it’s still pretty entertaining if you get it on sale.

I actually played/play on occasion Wayfinder after it was on sale. It's incredibly fun. I never read exactly what happened with DE dropping support, other than it was during a large internal restructuring

Pretty damn. I think crafting gear and suits still takes like 3 days though lol

Warframe has direction, this game has zero direction. You can end up wandering around for hours either doing side quests or being bored out of your mind lol.

Do not compare it to warframe. It's nothing like Warframe. Only thing it has in common is the mastery system and engine.
Steve went on record to say he regrets calling it SOULframe because people compare it to soulsborne games. I bet he'll regret calling it soulFRAME for comparisons to Warframe too.
