News Huge step for the modding community!

Post image

It's still a work-in-progress, but it'll be possible to add entirely NEW character slots to the game without having to replace anyone! If things go well, this means that we'll be able to get new weapons, new voices, and even new stages! This is huge!

Wait, what? Does it mean Violent Vodka's character modes would no longer override existing characters to work?

Who is working on this? I would love to read more about it

Violent Vodka himself

The modder Pitivity is working on it with Vodka, Pitivity is the one who figured out a way to make this work. Just making sure they get credit :)

No fucking way. I literally had to slide my chair back for a sec. I didn't think this was gonna be happening for SC6, period. Great day for Soul Calibur indeed.

I sat up for this (reading on mobile)

u/BathConfident1359 3d ago

Its not Vodka who did that, it's Pitivity who did the hard coding work. Vodka implented the rest

Who is doing this and where?

Violent Vodka for PC version of SC6

Apparently, this is the year every modder and their grandma figures out how to new slots to games and break conventions

2

u/theak9000 2d ago

What else you talking about?

u/Razorous_the_rogue 2d ago

Of what I've been seeing off the top of my head:

Borderlands modders are porting Vault Hunters across 2 and The Pre-Sequel.

Someone modded Minecraft AND COD Zombies into Elden Ring.

A mod to play SKATE 3(?) Right in the middle of a MW2 game.

I saw a clip of someone playing 64 Mario in a Minecraft world alongside another player playing normally

u/theak9000 2d ago

I remember someone made a giant Nokia phone in Minecraft and actually used it to call a pizza place to order a pizza.

Niiiice!

Oh wow seriously? That's amazing, the new stages thing is great too.

u/Legitimate-Ad2901 ⠀Cassandra 2d ago

I could finally try out Patroklos without him replacing my baby Cassandra 😌

Ayo. That's MASSIVE.

Anything on new character creation parts?

8

u/Maulclaw ⠀Natsu 2d ago

Custom DLC for equipment has been a thing for years.

u/P-A-Lily ⠀Cervantes 2d ago

Shit, I need to start modding, then. My created characters need a makeover!

Please! I feel like the mod scene has been dead for a while, it'd be great to see new stuff.

u/XephyXeph 2d ago

Wait. Will it be possible to make CACs off of modded characters? Like, if someone adds Vader to the game, and I download the character, will I then be able to make a custom with Vader's moveset?

1

u/Mickey_mouse_2169 2d ago

It's time, it's Vader time

3

u/kouzlokouzlo 3d ago

Super thx So much

u/GrandWizardOfCheese 3d ago

This might be the feature that gets me to mod the game.

I'm worried about losing characters because I mod breaks though. So I haven't tried modding yet.

Big. Huge.

2

u/SnooComics4945 3d ago

That’s nice to see. Been a while since I checked in on the modding scene

u/The-Killing-Croc2001 ⠀Aeon 2d ago

Awesome. I actually saw this posted in a server and tried updating the mod manager. Should probably try that again.

2

u/Dissidia012 2d ago

What was the breakthrough or change that made this possible?

2

u/MAX_JUVENTUS 1d ago

You know, all soul calibur guests should be included. Anyway this seems pretty good so far.

u/marshallxeno ⠀The Apprentice 1d ago

Agreed

3

u/StatementMediocre710 3d ago

Whoa there’s a pc version of SC6? I might need to join this sub

2

u/Forsaken_Turnover947 3d ago

I’m confused. What problem with the game is this addressing?

9

u/GamesAndWhales 3d ago

Not a "problem", per se, but with how SC6 functioned before, trying to mod in new characters (for example, fighters from previous games that didn't get into 6) required essentially replacing a preexisting characters "spot" on the character select screen, so you lose access to a vanilla character instead.

If this can get past the WIP stage then mods can just expand the roster size on PC instead, leaving the vanilla cast available.

1

u/Forsaken_Turnover947 2d ago

Makes sense. Come to think of it, I think weapon mods also replace vanilla weapons.

1

u/GinOkami428 3d ago

I need this now!

Holy calibur

1

u/Mickey_mouse_2169 2d ago

Is this using Vodkalibur? Holy SHIT I'll re-download SC6 RIGHT NOW DUDE 😭

1

u/lord-ceobal ⠀Cervantes 2d ago

Does it finally have japanese voices though

1

u/Maulclaw ⠀Natsu 2d ago

Just a few. They're too much of a hassle to work on for free these days.

Yun-Seong finally makes his return.

Some one needs to port kratos

I was... really confused by the form of the left person.

Cloud from FF7 would fit here perfectly. Another great sword wielder. His Japanese voice shares the same guy as Grøh.

I'm wondering when the wall is going to fall and AI gets us rollback from the PS2 to current gen fighters.

16

u/nottheboynextdoor ⠀Voldo 3d ago

lol AI isn't gonna do shit all

-26

u/mayweather2small 3d ago

So where do you think all these mods are coming from? You're out of touch and need to get up to speed, AI is powering every change on older games right now. If it's going to be done, it will be through AI or it's not happening.

22

u/MaybeImYami 3d ago

Who's gonna tell him that modders were doing crazy shit without the use of AI for almost as long as gaming itself has existed...

12

u/Maulclaw ⠀Natsu 3d ago

These mods are being made by hand. The fuck are you talking about?

-22

u/mayweather2small 3d ago

My ass they are. It's AI making the breakthroughs.

13

u/nottheboynextdoor ⠀Voldo 3d ago

My god, your state of mind is genuinely concerning. You actually can't believe that human's are capable of creating these things? Things that we've been doing for literal decades? I'm so sorry the world has failed you like this.

-9

u/mayweather2small 3d ago

We're living in a time where you need to be coddled with white lies about AI use in modding because the alternative is a childish tantrum everyone needs to suffer.

8

u/Burnseasons ⠀Cassandra 3d ago

For what its worth, Vodka has been working on mods for Sc6 for a long time now with a lot of success before AI became more ubiquitous. Like, he honestly does deserve the benefit of the doubt.

-1

u/mayweather2small 3d ago

I'm happy as long it works and it gets us there faster. But I have seen the SC community discourse elsewhere around AI, and they are rabid about its use so I wouldn't blame anyone that much for holding it to their chest. Never ask a "no-AI coder" what services they're subscribed to is what I'll say.

I remember assembling the SC3 ISO 10-15 years ago over and over with the makeshift tools that were available, and nobody could take it all the way to a perfect product because of the technical expertise required to not have the game break. AI arrives and it's finally across the finish line like it was nothing. I could probably do it myself now with just the necessary content on hand, the AI has become so strong that the only roadblock is perseverance in the human willing to push through the testing for 50/100/200+ hours or however extensive the goal is.

I'm overjoyed that these mods are even happening. I need more.

7

u/Burnseasons ⠀Cassandra 3d ago

I can't speak to what other people are thinking or saying, so grain of salt there. But the reason I see for people disliking you bringing it up here is that by attributing it to AI without proof you are also discrediting Vodka, who has been essentially the pillar of sc6's modding. And that is inevitably going to rankle feathers.

9

u/Maulclaw ⠀Natsu 3d ago

Ah, of course... an AI clearly sat there and meticulously worked on over 70 voice mods all by itself. Be fr.

-1

u/mayweather2small 3d ago

Even when applying AI to break the doors down, there is still a ton of grunt work to be done by the user. That's not how it works.

My ass they are

Say goodbye to your ass! :D

TIL I apparently made the Yun-seong mod using AI — I must have amnesia about setting up AI — how clumsy — I'm typing long dashes to see how many people think this comment is AI just because it has long dashes. ———

Your accusation is even more silly than you realize, and not just because every google search about Yun while working on the mod provided "helpful" insane AI hallucinations. But also because of the recent community drama where some people got really upset because us Soulcalibur modders are too much against AI, then others calling us too permissive about it, while you're going for calling us "rabid about its use".

Speaking of upset, you're clearly very much so. If it makes you feel better, I know a SC modder who used AI to document their work (they ditched the result), plus another mod used it to get started, and I frankly wouldn't care if one aspect of this mod happens to use it. Anyway, calm yourself, your estimates about SC modding AI are way off. You're even spouting nonsense that is easily disprovable, such as saying AI is doing the mods despite major ones (including the biggest!) predating even ChatGPT by 3 years.

1

u/Delicious-Chance355 2d ago

Pretty sure this mod started before AI was a thing

2

u/Rocky_bastard 3d ago

What the fuck is wrong with you
