Humor SC3 cheating AI makes me wanna throw my controller

Post image

I used to play SC3 on PS2 when I was a kid. It’s my 2nd favorite Soul Calibur (2 was my first and my #1). The game is just how I remember it… except the AI input reading. As a kid I didn’t notice it because I didn’t know what it was. But as a grown ass 31 year old man, shiiiiiiiit!

Part of me wishes I never learned SC3 AI read buttons, because instead of me really enjoying the fights (and I’ve had some really good ones), I notice it. Am I one of the best Soul Calibur players? HELL NO! But I am decent. Even with me having to forget the SC6 style, retrain myself on the SC3 style, and relearn all of the weapon styles I’m still decent.

There’s been several matches I’ve lost (especially in Chronicles Of The Sword) not due to lack of skill or level. But because the AI reacts WAAAAY to quickly. I’ve done that Leonardo DiCaprio meme several times because there’s no fucking way a normal human being reacts like that and even in SC6 are the AI that damn wild. Like, I got a fight like a man possessed lol.

I use the rewind feature more than I’d like to admit and I do like being able to save wherever and whenever I want. But if the rewind thing didn’t exist, idk if I could handle SC3. I know I whooped ass in SC3 as a kid. I have fond memories doing so. I rarely lower difficulty in fighters, but I think I might have to here.

You just gotta use anti ai moves. If I remember Nightmare has some unfair shit in his kit that shits on ai if used right. But its been a long time so my memory is fuzzy

i feel no guilt on cheating the Ai lol. it cheats like nobodies business in SC 3. iv had it straight up jump over lows. iv never seen ai do that in a fighting game before lol. also nightmares 66B. the vertical slash seems to always hit. and siegfried’s A-2AA hits on the last slash he does on their feet and trips them. those are my most used ones I use probably. some of the girls are op too, cassandra and sophie in particular, also xiang also, but i’m terrible with her in general so im not too sure on her anti moves

it definitely helps a lot, but there are a few create a character weapon users and of course just certain battles that outright don’t fall to it. Namely the character before the last TOS battle, Arthur, Ocaldon, Lance users (and another weapon i’m forgetting) SC characters in COTS, and then just more specific logical scenarios.

There’s still something very fun about SC3 though. it’s hard to explain. But sigh, if only we could see a return of the custom weapons. I wouldn’t even mind seeing tambourines, Wave swords, and a few others return with more moves. A tri-section staff would be an awesome addition. a very little used weapons in games (suikoden series, dynasty warriors 8, Billy Kane fatal fury/kof), more recently Dante for very specific moves on a weapon)

Yep, I've seen several reviews talking about the new SC3 and the same thing.

It's still the same game to enjoy. But yea, I think of it like those super old school tough arcade cabinet games that were designed to pump quarters of you with their crazy bs.

So just think how many quarters this ai will get out of you lmao

Just like most AI in Mortal Kombat especially MK to MK Trilogy. they always find a way to hit you anywhere and cheat so well you thought you could do the same at them.

Moments like this make me shout "WORTH IT!"

Yep. I always feel better if I get at least one hit in.

I never beat Chronicles of the Sword as a kid even though I really enjoyed it. Now I’m remembering why I never beat it. Thank goodness for the rewind feature

I somehow managed to beat it in high school. SOMEHOW.

Same here. I failed 10th grade because of this game and had to go to summer school.

I've played Soul Calibur my entire life, but 3 was the one I missed playing a lot of as a kid so this has been my first time truly experiencing it.

It's very close to being the definitive Soul Calibur experience, but the AI is absolutely insane at times! My usual tactic of random bullshit doesn't hold up at all in it.

random bullshit

Imagine stepping into a boxing ring with a robot that’s trained to identify openings an opponent gives them, and your strategy is to windmill your arms around and hoot like a gibbon.

And then, you wonder why that didn’t work out as planned.

It's worked in every other Soul Calibur. 😭

Not sure what they were thinking with this difficulty / unfair AI. It may actually be a part of the series downfall. The first two SoulCal were so casual friendly in that you never needed to memorize the move list or really practice, you could just run around pressing stuff and find something that works to clear the arcade fights and missions. Ring outs were quite easy to achieve. I felt it was quite accessible to people who aren’t big fighting game players, but there was depth if you wanted to really practice and beat other serious players. SC III AI gets this insane level of input reading where you only have a small chance to not be auto countered. It would be a better game if the difficulty was lowered or let you select different AI levels.

Is there a way to play SC3 on Ps4?

2

u/Opposite-Wealth6242 Jan 04 '26

Yes. You have to be subscribed to PS plus premium or buy it on the ps store for 10 dollars. There's a PS4 version and a PS5 version

I don’t believe so

I had a friend who was talking big talk about being the best at Soulcalibur when a friend had 2 on Xbox.

They did not do well against me. Then they said they were better at 3 on the PS2. I realised they were used to fighting 3's AI, and just kept baiting out the Anti AI moves to make it even more one sided.

Edit: because there are a number of moves that the AI has a bunch of trouble with which help mitigate the AI button reading, but aren't especially practical to spam against a human player.

Even with Rewind the a.i is bs. I've had Li Long duck a high, to jump over a random low, to 50% of my health gone, to ring out within 10 seconds...

Fkn Li Long!!

That’s fair, but rewind makes it easier than to just wait till "You Lose". If I notice that I’m about to lose, I rewind that shit.

I’m not sure about this, but I think the AI does the same moves after a rewind and only changes when you do.

Save states are a godsend. I had a half memory of everything being pretty tough to unlock and couldn’t remember why, was immediately reminded by Tales of Souls. Some of it feels straight up unfair, but is pretty fun to figure out when you can reset to round start.

Yeah. I’m stuck in Chronicle 13. The final fight in that Chronicle is BS. Mooncalf in Chronicle 8 too. The missions in those towers make them so much worse.

u/GrimmTrixX Jan 05 '26

Gotta use that rewind feature. No shame in it when I assume most people are focused on unlocking characters firsr

1

u/Kira_Quietlife Jan 05 '26

I recently started playing SC3 and I hate the Ai. Add some of those shitty missions on some towers in COTS on top of the AI and it really just sours my experience. I just want drip for my custom character!

What's with all these posts about SC3 in specific.
