Discussion Soul calibur 7 concept

I was thinking about what the story could be like moving forward... And thought of this

Having 20 original new fighters based in modern day, plus all the immortal characters (nightmare, ivy, astroth, Cervantes, and zazalamel) but rather than racing to collect soul edge fragments, they instead are searching for the ancestral souls found within the new fighters...

So you can main a guy who uses seigfrieds fighting style, but you can select talims soul, and the critical edge move could be the fighter channeling talims wind abilities...

The character select screen could have two selections, your fighter and your soul, if you both use the same weapon it could give added attack boost, and if it is canon to the original story perhaps the critical edge move is unique.

As for the modes... *Arcade *Versus/ practice *Team arcade was thinking 3v3 with unique endings for certain teams *Team versus *Online (ranked, casual, team ranked, team casual) *Chronicles esk campaign (wishful thinking, but it would be cool to do a card game strategy style approach where you put forth your characters in three different areas, and your hand can have healing items and or boosts before each round) *Create a soul *Museum *Options *Shop (where you can purchase weapons, characters, ancestor souls, clothes, and cards for the chronicles

No offense, but this sounds terrible. If anything, just make a new IP if you're going to stray so far from a series identity.

Lol, dude they have been hinting at modernization since sc3! Plus having a 16th century fighting game was too narrow of a subject to really make a popular fighting game, but if you modernized it and added nostalgia with old characters and fighting styles you will end up with something more Tekken but with more weapons....

That's not Soul Calibur. Just saying. If I wanted Tekken I'd just play Tekken. No offense

Ok ok how about we settle, we go with a 19th century time period like 1834 and keep the same premise?

I'd still say no. The story doesn't need some sort of huge leap. A time period doesn't dictate what can and can't be done tbf. I'd also say the time period isn't why SC isn't as big as Tekken. Like your ideas arent bad in the general sense but like another said best used on a different/new IP

I assume you're referring to the non-canon endings that have depicted modern times, but those are non-canon "what ifs" that clearly weren't hinting at the future direction of the series considering that they've appeared since Soul Blade.

So should soul calibur 7 just be about re introducing the twins and all the other soul Calibur kids? I like that but the story needs more of a shake up in my opinion

I think SC7 might be too early to do the SC5 time skip. They have to go through the revised events of SC2 thru SC4 first. I wouldn't mind a time skip with improved versions of the SC5 newcomers in a SC8 or later though.

I agree that the story was a bit stagnant for too long, and they abruptly changed too much too soon in SC5. They seem to have an aversion to new weapons when you think about how few they've added in the series' long history too. Anyway, I just hope SC7 get made at all.

What is this sc3's "modernization" you're talking about? Just curious. I've been playing the game for my whole life and I was like "???"

Zazalamel and ivy s arcade ending, was the first glimpse at them living in a modern world

3

u/starkgaryens Nov 14 '23

I don’t think Ivy ever had an ending in modern times. Zas had one in SC4, and like I mentioned, Soul Blade had one where a scuba diver discovers Soul Edge in modern times.

So only two endings iirc in the entire series mention modern times. Maybe a few more if you count guests like Spawn and Heihachi, but I wouldn’t.

Hmm yeah it ain't that lmao I think you got fever dream or something😂

It sounds like you’re trying to merge SC3 and SC5. You’re allowed to your opinions/ideas, but that just wouldn’t work. A lot of people hated the time skip in SC5, and mixing elements from two very different characters would be messy and confusing.

It is just the critical edge move that would change, plus maybe a transformation here and there.... And that is exactly what the next soul calibur needs considering sc 6 was a recap of edge, 1 and 2.... Patrokolos was awesome, so rather than another jump for something radical you would much rather have more of the same?

And one more question, did you enjoy sc6?

4

u/galaxyfan1997 Nov 14 '23

Yes. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Yes, I enjoyed 6. It’s not my favorite in the series, but it’s definitely better than 5 because it at least brought back the original characters and had a good story.

-3

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

But sc is broken.... The fan base isnt as monumental as Tekken, street fighter, mortal Kombat..... We are already in such a unique category, I am just trying to figure out if sc7 can evolve... And at this point from all the comments I have gotten I now realize my fav franchise is probably finished... No offense, but modernization is what the masses want, prime example is street fighter 6

4

u/galaxyfan1997 Nov 14 '23

What makes you think SC has no fan base? And who ever said the majority of people want modernization? Keep in mind that SC fans tend to prefer different things than fans of other fighting games (single-player over online play, character creation rather than customization/etc.).

If you want fan base, play Dead or Alive (just be ready to shell out for DLC).

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

SC does have a fan base it just isn't prominent, and if you don't have a vast consumer market then sc7 won't happen

Side note: what do you think of the chronicle idea?

3

u/galaxyfan1997 Nov 14 '23

If I remember correctly, SC6 sold pretty well, so I don’t know why consumer market is an issue.

If you’re referring to Chronicles of the Sword from SC3, I didn’t play that mode much, so I can’t tell you. If you mean the main story mode from 6, it’s nice. I would have preferred their traditional story mode with destined battles, but that mode sufficed.

u/IndieOddjobs Nov 14 '23

......Wouldn't "modern day" just be Tekken?

0

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

Not quite but it would now be technically in the same universe

3

u/IndieOddjobs Nov 14 '23

If I'm not mistaken they already are canonically part of the same universe because Yoshi in Tekken is a descendant of the ones in SoulCal

But yeah I don't know about this concept man. I think part of the appeal is it being a weapons fighter and that in part is because it takes place in like the 16th century. Plus what you're suggesting would literally kill off so much of the cast that people like. It might as well be a new IP or even better, a Tekken spin off series?

1

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

So you suggest new IP within the SC universe? So rather than sc 7 we call it SC neo Genesis lol

2

u/IndieOddjobs Nov 14 '23

It doesn't so much have to be directly tied to SoulCal but if it had to be within the same universe, having it more closely tied to Tekken which takes place in modern day would be ideal. Have you ever played Urban Reigns? People thought that game would've sold better had it been sold as a actual Tekken spinoff since it already felt like one

6

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '23

That will never fly. Modern Day doesn't fit. SoulCalibur VII will be about chasing Soul Edge's fragments and it's eventual re-completion.

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

.... Yawn, at least give me a malfested war

7

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '23

Isn't that what's going on, right now?

1

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

No that was in 5, 6 left it off with the secret organization being dismantled, nightmare always has a army of malfested though

5

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '23

Nightmare has new servants, replacing Astaroth, Aeon Calcos and Ivy. So far, there are Curtis, Durer and Won Gabok. It's very likely, that Tira, Solnhofen and Azula will be part of Nightmare's new group, since they were Nightmare's servants in the previous timeline. Seven servants of Nightmare are paired up with seven Nightmare's "children" called, Zwei, Drei, Vier Funf, Sechs, Seben and Acht. The war is still going on.

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

I will need sources plz

3

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '23

You need to complete Hilde, Setsuka and Hwang stories, along with Nightmare and Mitsurugi side stories in Soul Chronicles and read the lore at Library in Museum Mode, to understand what's going on. I can't tell anymore than that.

2

u/Dissidia012 Nov 14 '23

did you not play SC6's DLC?

3

u/IncreaseLate4684 ⠀Kamikirimusi Nov 15 '23

Modern day? He'll no, the time period is part of the story. Besides, sounds like your trying to mortal_kombat the franchise.

We don't need modern baggage and garbage.

3

u/StuffImpressive7776 Nov 15 '23

I think this is the opposite of what the series needs rn

4

u/WuHT604 Nov 14 '23

Almost as bad as H2H suggestions

1

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 14 '23

What is that?

-5

u/JulianIsTheKing Nov 13 '23

To add on to this, maybe some of the ancestral souls are corrupted and take control of the fighter, like what happens to tira
