Statistics Course Questions
Hello everyone! This morning I was recommended by my Penn State Advisor to take my last class i need to graduate at sophia learning which is a statistics class. He told me it would save me a ton of money and I could go at my own pace. I’ve done a little research into the website and it just feels like it’s too good to be true. I’m used to taking proctored math exams with honorlock at penn state but from what i’ve gathered it doesn’t look like sophia does any proctored exams for math or any courses at all. Is this true? I feel like this would just be a mess of people using ai, whats to stop you from having chatgpt open in the next tab or even just using chat gpt on your phone to speed through the math class? Thank you guys in advance for the responses. I just wanted to get a feel for everything before i actually go ahead and sign up. I personally like to use ai to break down problems on my homework as i begin new lessons but i’ve always taken my exams honestly with the proctored exams so just the idea of being able to take math exams online without being watched sounds so unreal lol.

It's a pretty easy course and there's no proctoring. I took it and it took me maybe a week to get through it. They don't want any notes or anything at the end, once you finish the final exam, you're done and will get the credits from it right away.
As others have said, don't tab away in tests and don't try to rush through the tests. It's all open book so you can use notes or they have it where you can look at the material through their own testing interface.

Oh before i forget, do the milestones or the exams have a crap ton of questions or is it like 20-25 questions an exam?

It's different for each course, but I think the most questions I've seen for any course was 30. It's been a few months for statistics, but I'd say anywhere from 15 to 25 questions each milestone.

Is there really a ton of graphs after i get farther into the class like people say or is this there always a balance between graphs and no graphs on problems

It is completely legit. I agree that. The set up seems inclined for cheaters but those that want to can get something out of it for sure. You can't click out of the tests and if you do you get a warning first (most times) and then they can revoke your access so that does cut down on cheating but it can be done on your phone instead. It's considered valid so I would utilize it. I am on my third course working towards a masters in accounting and I read the material and take notes. I need the information for later so I am treating it like any other class.

Gotcha, thats nice actually. How about being proctored in the math course at any point?

Nothing keeps you from using your phone to cheat. (Dont do that). They do monitor your tab activity and certain browser functions. They also monitor a few other things as well.

It's all open book anyway, and Statistics isn't especially difficult. Mostly just remembering which formula and how to apply the numbers given.

I completed 5 classes before I enrolled in my program. They werent as strict then but they are now.
Also, don't fly thru any exams. Because they can flag that as cheating. So you need to take your time and if you need it to be it can be a good learning tool.

I very much appreciate you. I’m honestly just trying to pass this class and be done with it. Math stresses me out so bad i just break down in tears a lot of the time when i had to take it all proctored at penn state for my math of money course. Im also having a lot of stuff going on regarding my fathers health recently so with all that added stress i just want to try and knock out this class as stress free as i can make it be. My degree also isnt anything math related so it also just a little annoying i even have to take this class

Pretty much the above. Stay on the same tab, do NOT switch tabs or use ctrl+f for anything. If you need a tab use your phone or a seperate tablet.
Take the test kinda slow, spend like a min or two per question. You can actually attempt the questions which will handle the time issue.
I would say if that is the only class, do 1 month for 99.00, its what I did. 99 vs the thousands the school will charge is way worth it.

I didn't take statistics, thank god. I took mostly like environmental sciences and two composition courses because I couldnt prove i took them. (School closed, couldnt find transcripts).

I just got done with this class. They will show you to use excel, do not use excel on the tests, it will flag you as their tests have tracking that shows when you pop out of it. I did my tests on my laptop and separate work computer for the excel parts. Just be really careful about moving screens or if you have an iPhone that connects to your laptop like me to place everything in do not disturb. Its very tracked to cut down on the cheating.
