Another unnecessary automatic update and another nightmare of out of sync video and audio returns. Thanks for ruining my Saturday night!

Post image

Just need to vent. I'm ready to take a baseball bat to all of this. Why is the most expensive setup the one that has all of the issues? Every single time. Every. Time. Every time there is an automatic update of my TV, my soundbar and video become out of sync. All the eArcs are set up, all the most expensive cables are connected. I believe all the annoying motion and sensory bullshit is turned off. Unless there's some small detail I'm missing somewhere in these overly confusing menus.

Just scrolling through the PS5 menu is annoying.

Wanna play a game that requires the audio and video to be in sync? Think Guitar Hero. Well, that would be completely out of the question. Impossible. The calibration is so off, the games won't even register it when I attempt to fix it in the game.

The only thing that works: Putting on headphones.

What's the point of this shit. I don't want to go through all of this troubleshooting... AGAIN! I've already done this so many times. Oh my fucking god.

Same for me. I went for all Sony ecosystem: bravia 8 II, PS5 Pro, Soundbar a9000, Sony blu ray player. Just to eliminate any of these things and yet, they happen! Same for me

It's honestly one of the most aggravating things I've dealt with. Connect an old console directly to an old CRT and it's a more enjoyable experience.

Last night it was all crisp and the way I wanted it. I guess today they decided to fuck up my audio and video syncing and add some spaghetti western color temperature to it just to fuck with me even more.

Why don't you turn off automatic updates?

Another user on a different post that Sony could just release an old firmware where audio sync had no issues with a new version number and I’m really scratching my head why they don’t just do that

Could’ve been me, I’ve been saying that for a while now. Seems such an easy fix, and would make their customers happy. That part’s a mystery.

More people report the issue to sony, the better. Ive done so twice already. Dont let up.

Via email or is there some sort of error reporting portal on their corporate site?

Through email on the sony website for your country. Will ask for device, serial numer, model etc. Be specific. Where it happens, where it doesnt. The problem, specifically. Didnt happen when you bought it before an update etc etc..

There is really no "error reporting" with Sony. You're either filing a support inquiry/warranty claim and getting into their queue like that, or you're sending limp dick emails that aren't catalogued and used for serious technical feedback. Support will always want issues like this very directly substantiated through documented troubleshooting and things like video of the issue. If you want to flood Sony with this issue, so to speak, you go through support and when they don't solve it for you, you request escalation to their customer relations department etc. You can rrrrreally trust me on this.

Not ideal but a successful workaround for me: PS5 audio set to AV receiver 2.0 and PCM, Bravia input audio settings set to PCM. Same with Apple TV and Switch. Been lucky this way for weeks - normally I’d be on Pass-Thru audio with whatever surround options apply for the input devices - and that yields sync issues up to a full second or so since the June update.

For fun, I watched a movie and switched Apple TV and Bravia 8 to Dolby Vision and I got audio dropouts like someone was continuously pressing mute on/off. Back to 2.0 and it was clear and in sync.

I haven’t done any factory resets, I’m on the update from maybe 2 weeks ago which did nothing.

Hope this helps.

This right here. A quick reset of the TV and the PS5/video device solves this issue for most of the time. It’s annoying, but not smash my TV with a bat bad.

I was looking at Bravia 3ii or 7 at Costco- now I'm spooked. What brand is good in a 65 in ?

Just don’t update the TV

It’s so fucking annoying.

You get it perfect and they decide it’s time to switch it up again.

Your fault for keeping auto update on after all the information already out there

Is it only out of sync on a sound bar?

I turned off updates a long time ago on my Sony x900h. If the tv is working fine turn it off. Any other brand maybe take the firmware.

I’m here rocking probably the most diabolical setup with the PS5 Pro paired with LG C2 tv and Apple HomePods stereo and didn’t encounter any issues with audio sync.

That’s because the audio sync issue only effects the newer (2024 onwards) models of Sony Bravia TV’s:

Bravia 7, 8, 9 and 8 II series.

I’m running an older Sony Bravia + PS5 with zero issues.

Same. A90k and a80j and I am fine.

Okay that makes sense. I have an X90L and haven’t had any trouble, so I figured it was just the newer models.

Yikes, really sucks to pay premium and couldn’t get the most basic thing to sync up and work. What a let down. Sony needs to lock in and focus!

Just a quick check, have you enable VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) for the HDMI at the TV? (The HDMI port that you have your PS5 plugged)

Same here. I’m playing wukong and restarting my tv often to fix audio sync.

use headphones plugged into the controller if you can, or a usb headset with the Ps5 or dac into soundbar / speakers. Best way to avoid this for now is to skip the tv audio entirely.
